I had my first glass of wine at 2 months. I had asked both my NUT and surgeon, NUT said none for a year. Surgeon said that 2 months was ok, the reason that the NUTs say a year is that it will slow down weight loss.

I am 11 weeks postop and I have had corn for the past 2 weeks. No problems. I don't know what my NUT would say, but I LOVE corn so I couldn't resist since in AZ it is now in season.

Az Sleevers Pre And Post...
3AZscotties replied to mztialady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery with Banner Bariatric Group, With Dr Rob Schuster. I had a great experience at Banner Gateway, the entire staff was great. The floor nurses were very attentive to all my needs, mainly pain and nausea. I am 9 weeks + and am 37 lbs down. I recommend the Bariatric group that Dr Podkemeni is with. -

1 Year Out An Its Not Good.
3AZscotties replied to Skinnyagain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To AmyL and Jwowens, I am a surgical PA and have been for 17 years.. I was educated and did work n the State of Florida so I can testify that they do have PA's in Florida. Currently I work with one general surgeon and have worked with him for ten years. We work as a team. He knows about every patient I see, and how they are doing. I do see all of the postops. It is our policy that if our patients do not want to see the PA, they can see the doctor.. All you have to do is ask..I can assure you that you are not being slighted by seeing the PA, actually you are probably spending more time with a provider than you would if you were seeing the dr.. -
Gimme Some Stats My 03/30/12 Sleevers
3AZscotties replied to alexis1408's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Reached 199 on Monday. Surgery was 3/30/12....so excited!!!! -
Today I reached my first goal...under 200!!! Wasn't going to weight today since I did yesterday but I could just tell! And there it was, 199!!! Haven't seen that number in at least 10 years. I feel great, am exercising and eating well, meaning I don't feel deprived. Getting in all my water and protein, and calories are low (maybe too low) at about 800 daily. Life is good!!!

My NUT was very adamant about no alcohol for a year. So I asked the doc and the reason is that it will slow down weight loss. I have had a small glass of wine and one rum and diet coke with no problems.

The short gastric vessels go from the greater curvature of the stomach to the spleen. The spleen is a fairly fragile organ so great care is taken when taking down the short gastric vessels. They don't detach the spleen, just the vessels. I had a splenic bleed during the surgery but it was controlled with cautery and hemostatic foam.

Not Ready For Work Monday
3AZscotties replied to neeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took 2 weeks off and should have taken more. I was so tired during the first week back, and I have a fairly active job. My advice is to take as much time as you need, Short term disability should cover 4-6 weeks. The physician should be able to discuss with STD and extend it according to your symptoms. -
Gallbladder surgery was a breeze, back to work in a week and a half (Could have gone back in 3 days but didn't ) VSG, pain was there but not bad, the nausea tho was TERRIBLE!! I took two weeks off but could have stayed off another week due to fatigue.

Gimme Some Stats My 03/30/12 Sleevers
3AZscotties replied to alexis1408's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery 3/30/12 High weight 231 Preop weight 220 Current weight 206 I'm having a bit of a stall right now, started earlier this week, so won't weight again till next Friday. -
Ha Ha. I did the same thing on Easter with the smoked ham that my husband did!!! BTW, those 18's have to be feeling loose!!
-
Well, things are going well, still off of work but feeling stronger every day. See the surgeon on Friday, I assume he will okay me to go back to work on Monday. Have been getting in most of my protein and water, a little tired of "Bari-fulls" Have been walking, not as much as I would like but trying to get out everyday. So far the scale shows a continued weight loss, and clothes are starting to get loose. I can tell that I can get more in than I did a week ago, must be that the sleeve is becoming less swollen..So far, so good!

Bowel Movements After Surgery.
3AZscotties replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon has me take Milk of Magnesia, I am only 2 days postop. With the pain meds and decreased intake, you will probably need a little something to help, at least for a while. -
Unjury Unflavorerd Protein... Any Good?
3AZscotties replied to NJsharon's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I mixed the unflavored Unjury powder into some sugar free pudding, not bad, a little chemical taste. You can try samples of different types to see if you like it, I have read that some peoples tastes change after surgery. I have another unflavored powder to try called Beneprotein, then I will probably order larger sizes. -
Anyone With My Pre Op Stats? 207 Lbs And 5' 4 Lbs
3AZscotties replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am close, 5' 3.5" and 217. Kept hearing from friends and acquaintances that I didn't need the surgery, but no one else is looking at diabetes or sleep apnea. Had my surgery on the 30th so I am just 2 days postop and haven't had a moment of regret. I think that at your age, your skin should retract easily, that is one of my concerns at 52. I feel that it is better to get it done before you develop any of the potential problems associated with obesity, so you are right on the money!! Best of luck!!! -
Has anyone heard about how to keep the skin from sagging? Is that at all possible? I read somewhere on the VSG site about a product called "ItWorks" but would like to know more...

Surgery went well on Friday, Dr Schuster and the team at Banner Gateway were wonderful. I only spent one night in the hospital, the nausea the first night was terrible!! It turned on a dime at about 3 am (24 hrs ago) and I haven't been in much discomfort since then. Starting "Bari-fulls" today, but I can honestly say that I am not hungry.
-
Well, was sleeved on Friday and home on Saturday. The pain I can handle but the nausea the first night was TERRIBLE! I'm getting my water in but not much else, but then again haven't spent a whole day at home. Doc says the surgery went well, (what is he going to say?!) but I did have a splenic bleed. Not a big deal since he was able to stop it...Am looking forward to some good walking today and my "Bari-full" diet for two weeks!!
-
Will keep you in my prayers tomorrow, I know that you will do well. See you on the loser's bench!!
-
Nothing...sorry but true. I had to take them for 14 days and ended up with hives, I think I was allergic to the Biaxin. Then came the Medrol dose pak and I still itched for 3 weeks. Good luck!!

An uninflated (unfull) stomach is flat and really doesn't take up much room. The swelling that occurs after stapling is also fairly minimal.

One of the things that always helps me when I see a cookie or piece of cake( which are my weaknesses!) I think to my self that I know what they taste like, and for whatever reason, I lose the "need" to eat it.

Week 13-- Let's Be Honest... Im Probably Not The Best Role Model For Vsg.
3AZscotties commented on blackanese25's blog entry in blackanese25's Blog
I think frumpynomore hit it on the head, we are only human....I don't think I could go through with WLS if I thought that I would never have another cookie (or bite of one!) ever again!! So enjoy each day of your new you!! I also think that in a year from now you will probably WANT to go to the gym instead of feeling like you have to, exercise will also be SO much easier!
