    Younger?

The other day while at Lowe's, I was told that I don't look old enough to have a teenager. (I do, I am, I dont't; he won't be 13 nil December. LOL!). It felt good to hear, so I graciously accepted the compliment.
  2. I had the same sort of pain for several weeks( im 8 weeks out now.) Mine was complicated by the development of a seroma. My surgeon had to reopen the incision for it to drain. That said, that incision is the one through which they remove the excised stomach. It's going to hurt more than any other. And yes, that loss is entirely possible in a week. At two weeks out, I'd lost 32lbs, including 8 from pre-op.

Ok To Drink Liquid Along With A Protein Shake?

Same here. My NUT counts protein drinks as a liquid. I don't dilute mine for more liquids, but I do sip Water at the same time because most protein drinks dry my mouth out something awful.
  4. I started taking pills again while still in the hospital. My surgeon's rule is that if the pill is smaller than an m&m, take it whole. Bigger, split or crush it.

    Diarreha

It's pretty common to have issues with dairy after surgery. You can try lactose free or just water. I think some use soy or almond milks too.
  6. I was sleeved on May 21 and I'm still having some minor paint one incision site. Doc told me that one always takes longer to heal, but it's keeping me from walking very far at all. I go back in to see him on June 12, really hoping the pain is resolved by then!

    Surgical Tape

My surgeon used dermabond on my incisions because of my adhesive allergy. No problems as of today, 8 days post-op! I wish I had some suggestions for OP's rash. Nothing worked on my reaction. I just had to wait it out.
  8. My surgeon did tell me that he thought I'd be better off with bypass. He explained why then followed that quickly with, "I can see though that you've done your research and I will do the sleeve." Hes been nothing but 100% supportive since. In your friend's case, I'd ask his reasoning and then respectfully decline were my heart truly set on the sleeve. If he still doesn't agree, it's time to find a new surgeon if possible.

    Travel Question

As nice as the thought of my childhood bedroom is, I'd have to go for my current home! I also cannot imagine a 6 hour car trip just days after major surgery. The 40 minute ride to my home was more than enough for me.
  10. I work in a yarn shop teaching people how to knit. By no means is it a strenuous job, I sit on my butt and knit or ring sales for a few hours. I plan to take as much time off as I need to feel 100% again. I'm five days out now and cannot imagine going back at this point. (I have had some minor complications. Extra two nights in hospital, some vomiting on day 1 and 2) Hopefully I'll be back up and running before our big trade show athe end of June!

    May Sleeve Buddies!

Sleeved on Monday (5/21). I have to admit that while I know I did the right thing, I feel awful. My surgeon went so far as to say my recovery has been atypical. I spent most of surgery day and the day after vomiting, spent three nights in the hospital instead of one and I'm still having trouble getting more than 3-4oz of fluid down in an hour. I know it's all for the best and that this too shall pass, but ugh! My new mantra is "one sip at a time".
  12. I've chosen be very open about my decision to do VSG. The only person who's reacted negatively was the salesclerk at Catherine's because she knows she going to low a good customer! I really needed to put it out into the universe, so to speak, so that I would have as much support and encouragement as possible. .

    Any May Sleevers Here?

Monday the 21st for me! I have to admit, I'm a lot freaked out, but I know this is the best choice for me.
  14. My sons are 9 and 12. I've been very straightforward with them from the start. Since they've been at the surgeon's office each time I've been, it's hard not to be. They've seen the animations of surgery, they've read the information with me and my husband. My older son is so excited for me, or maybe him since he's eager to ride bikes with me along for once. My younger son knows what's going on but lives in his world (Asperger's Syndrome) so if it's not tornado sirens or other weather related stuff, he doesn't care.

    Sleeve With A Toddler?

IMO, it'll be doable but difficult based on my surgeon's post-op rules. I'm not to lift more than 5lbs or bend for 6-8 weeks after surgery. I know I could not get away with that it my boys were still as small as you little one. As to the food aspect of recovery, a friend of mine who had rny done found that once she got to full foods again that the portion she made her then two year old was the perfect size for her as well.
