Anti-Inflammatory Drugs

I also use the Voltaren gel. Pre-surgery used to take 1500 mg Relafen a day for arthritis pain -
Is anybody using something besides the scale to measure progress? Like body fat content or clothes size? Does anyone accept it as a valid measurment besides you?

6month requirement. Gaining more than losing.

lJust do the best you can. It took me 7 months to lose 30 pounds the scale didn't move for the next 6 while I lost 4 inches in waste. If I had to do it again I would have done the shakes presurgery sooner.I didn't do.yogurts and.shakes until after -
I miss running. Something you can do on your own for as long as you want. Two herniated discs and 2002 knee replacement ended that ... I miss racquetball. 57 trying to.get in 4-5 more years of work

Just How Much Is Everyone Exercising?
AlbanyDan replied to Ready4success's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I have been using a recumbant bike though I didn't know the name. I just knew that reclining position was easier on my back than the bouncing of traditional high seat. I try to do 30 minutes after doing mile on treadmill. A lot of work not seen by people that think the VSG.is the only reason that you are losing. -
I should have made clear, what I meant. When you make the mistake of mentioning that you are dieting THATS when I had someone make the sometimes I forget to eat. comment. Lighten up you fat jolly people. It's called jokes and at 360 down from 460..I have had a lot to laugh about.
-
How about a new category. Dumb spit, that skinny people say. My first one is.. "Sometimes I forget to eat" or '' I missed lunch and couldn't even tell!" Yea right, until they passed out on the floor trying to get to that 'Super Model' look..Go eat something already!
-
Geez...I thought fat people were supposed to jolly? Maybe it's just push back after the years. I got picked to play Santa in at least 3 grade school plays. Not being able to eat what used to be your comfort food has an affect. Don't take it all out on others

How soon did you go back to work?
AlbanyDan replied to Kennedy310's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 57 Eatthatfrog. I think it is more surgery trauma than age. Because they get us up the day of the surgery a lot people forget that it is still.major. I missed being able to close my eyes whenever I wanted to. No I do 1/2 coffee in the morn -
You Don't Know Her Story, So Give Her A Chance....
AlbanyDan replied to morthnaprtyfac1's topic in Rants & Raves
I was 460 my first "official" weigh on November 2009. I had dropped out of program 2007 because the only option was the gastric bypass. My insurance didn't cover VSG until 2010. Dec 2011 surgery. Down to 360 with goal of 250. That would be my HS weight so we'll see. -

I guess it depends on your support group. I have known my wife since we were 18. We married at 30 and are now 57. So we have seen a wide range of body transition in each of us over near 40 years. When attended mandatory pre op support groups most of the younger girls were stressed about friends acting differently because they were no longer the big one or she was no longer looking to spend Friday night with a pizza. The older women would just say to get new friends. Guy's biggest issue was needing to cut beard for CPAP machine. Weight does not affect how we relate. We see Denzel and Clooney in the mirror Every morning -
The pre-op procedures are required more by insurance than the Hospital. VSG just started being fully covered because of the weight rate compared to the bypass. My pre-open tests included Psyche evaluation, mandatory group sessions as well as the physical tests. All those tests and evaluations are packaged and sent when they seek pre-approval for the surgery. Just 4 years ago only the gastric bypass was covered in Nys since it was the only procedure with some proven success. Now there are options with VSG and the gastric band.

Everyone is different. For me, my body enforces the no fluid with meal rule with pain and discomfert. Liquid too soon after a meal feels like stomach is being flushed before digestion is complete. It's a feeling you don't want repeated

How soon did you go back to work?
AlbanyDan replied to Kennedy310's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pre-surgery we were told we could return to work as soon as no pain meds were required. I was allowed 4 weeks (also under FLMA)..I felt I could have returned after 2 bur the recommended I take the full 4. It was best since I was able to resume some exercise and when I came back it was for full-time each day though 1/2 days would have been permitted. Hardest part was missing that after lunch and 2:00 pm caffeine boost from coffee -
Though it isn't as 'hormonal' as being pregnant the VSG surgery IS trauma to the body and Psyche. I was always active before a knee replacement and two herniated discs 2002. I convinced myself that any exercise was painful (it was). I discovered Kingsize online and Big and Tall stores. 2x became 3, 4, 5 then 6X. Arthritis pain stopped being an excuse. But the after surgery I felt I made a mistake. Depression, regret sets in. I actually missed coffee more than food at first. Now I miss being able to treat ourselves to meal out on an occasion and not having to.take half the meal home in a doggy bag

I invested in one of those magic/ninja bullet things it's strong enough to purses carrots. I try combos and a little crysyal light to add liquid and sweetness. Also found individually frozen blueberry, mango, pineapple and strawberries at hanaford. I add protein powder to fruit smoothie once a day

Just How Much Is Everyone Exercising?
AlbanyDan replied to Ready4success's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I start off with one mile on treadmill. Since that now takes about 17 minutes, I added 2 miles on stationary bike since every book says you need 30 minutes to see results. I thought walking was enough but you can feel the bike working different muscles. It is also faster recovery on my knees than extra walking. I can do bike every day. Its not like loosing 100 will grow knee cartilage back but every pound helps -
completely disgusted....

I have been there. I was Dec. 2011. Everyone has the day after surgery 20 lb loss. As you introduce new/old foods it takes awhile for digestive system to adjust to solid food again. I had a problem due to the lack I fiber in high protein diet. I miss being able to have a nice salad since I can't handle the bulk fiber anymore. As for weight try tracking body fat content instead. As you reshape the scale may not.move fast. I went from 60w to.54 while scale only went down 60. -
Gaining weight after 3 weeks after surgery
AlbanyDan replied to kizzy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even though you can tolerate more foods try to stick with protein shakes and yogurt for awhile. Until you can exercise regularly your metabolism will be slow. So even a few calories will result in gains if they are not being burned. It took me 6 months to get my appetite where solid food didn't make me sick. That's when the exercise has to be a focus. Even a short walk per day helps. Also light free weights for th arms. As little as 5 pounds workd -
My first gym membership was at a studio set up with ceiling to floor mirror that ran the length of the building. Now I have membership where the mirrors are only in the free weight areas. I was 460 pre-surgery now 360, so I am still the biggest Guy in the gym. You want flexibility and air flowing so that perspiration cools you off. It may be a Guy thing but focus on the work you want to get in and not the mirror ..that comes later. I use Reebok tops and shorts. They breath and dry fast
