    Surgery Tomorrow.....

hey ashley... the good by far outweighs the bad. with everything and anything there are risks involved. the lap band is one of the safest weight loss sugeries.. not to mention it is reversible. walkin on the street is a risk to right.. a car can spin outta control and hit us and we die?.. but we still do it.. ( hope i made u smile ) go for it. dont be afriad.. think about what you have to gain.. ( a whole new life) and how much you've got to loose( unwanted weight and risks of diseases) its by far one of the best decisions ive ever made .. dont over think it.
  3. hey... i did the lap band with plication as well and yea.. it isnt as simple as it sounded. so.. i was told i could have Jello cause it turns into liquid and its not good for your stomach. i was starving and got tierd of liquids before my 2 weeks post op was over and so i started having bits of chicken and when i was supposed to be on mushy foods.. i was having grilled chicken. im abt 2 mths post op now and im fine. i was also told i could only do cardio at the gym and i was lifting 40 lbs 5 days after sugery. i odnt think ur going to know if one of ur stitches popped. and it cant be that easy to pop it. hunger in 30 mins. i experienced that to. ideally ud be able to just eat a few oz..but ur just gettin over the swelling and as you continue to heal.. your pouch is bigger and the band seems to not be there at all. when you got the band only a tiny bit.. if any.. saline solution was injected. you're not going to feel as much restricted just yet. as well mushy foods tend to slip thru the band quite easily and so ur hungry again. its okay to snack between meals. have a yogurt. have a shake.. and of course keep drinking Water. BE CAREFUL .. with drinking water. i made the mistake of drinking ot much to quickly.. trick is.. to sip it. not have an 8 oz bottle of water all at once cause it will wash the food thru. water shud be consumed just like your food.. in small sips and slowly. the mushy foods arent for you to loose weight.. remember that.. its to give your body time to heal. have enough to eat. and u have to remember to eat often. i also made the mistake of not eating enuff.. be sure to time ur drinking and eating properly and hopefullly ur not as hungry as often. as you continue to heal and possibly get a fill.. ud experience more restriction

3 Weeks Post Op And Starting To Gain Weight

sojourner.. dont freak out... keep up with ur work outs and you will be fine. i got depressed when i realized i wasnt loosing weight and was at a stand still. i still am.. but im positive i will start again soon with persistent work outs and good eating choices... you may have those days when you feelliek nothing is going on.. but even if the scale doesnt move.. your body is slowly changing.. dont forget the scale moving downward isnt the only great accomplishments of this journey you're on

    Success Rate?

the band isnt a magic wand... its a tool that must be coupled with a life style change. there are many ways to *trick* the band but not gastric by pass. you have to be willing to work with the band... make healthy choices and put in the work required for the results desired. the band is 40% restriction and 60% you doing the work. again it isnt a magic stick its a tool... how u use it.. is up to u.... the results will vary by the amt of effort you put into making you a healthier you.

Last Test Before Submitting Paper Work.

i've got aetna.. they required the 6 mth program.. luckily i was seeing my gyn consistantly before i even had my consultation and those weigh ins counted for my 6 mth plan. so i was able to get everything done in about 4 mths from my consultation... i got all the other tests done and actually had to just wait to be weighed by my pcp for 2 months... it was frustrating to say the least aetna also required me to document 5 years of failed weight loss attempts. at least one attempt per year... documenting weight lossed or gained and methods i tried..( ie weight watchers.. excercise and healthy eating etc... )

the surgery isnt as bad as i thought it would be. they key in gettin over your fear is to talk to you doctor and anastegiologist, let them know your scared.. ask questions.. no question is dumb. as as many as you like. and then just go to sleep. take a rest and when you wake up... ud be ready and equipped to start the rest of your healthy life.

3 Weeks Post Op And Starting To Gain Weight

im 2 weeks out and have seen this.. i gained 2 lbs and freaked out. im told this is normal... as mentioned before.. im very careful now.. because since the swelling has gone down i get hungrier faster and again told this is normal.. i was afraid to eat between meals but did talkt o my nutritionist about it and she recomended i have a yogurt.. or pull my meals slightly closer together.. weight gain is normal because your body is just getting used to having food in it again after going thru the liquids.. your body thinks its not going to get anything so its storing everything you put into it. watch your carb intake and try to stay away from sugar. keep up with ur workout plana nd you will be successful.

    14 Days Post Op

thanks for all the feedback guys.. i see my doc tomorrow.. im hoping for a fill or an apt for a fill... im staying positive..
  16. hey everyone... im super new to forums.. chats and not to mention the lap band... i decided to have my surgery because of medical issues last summer.... i was told i had endometriosis and weight loss would help the situation.. i just couldnt go thru life in the condition i was last summer so i decided to get banded. im 14 days out of surgery now... ive lost 22 lbs.. and now i seem to be frozen. im not loosing weight anymore.. im sticking to working out but have trouble sticking to meal plans. Im still home from work so it seems that every 2 hours or so.. im wating a piece of grilled chicken or having an oz or 2 of soup.. im not sure if thats the reason why ive stopped loosing weight. i find myself struggling to drink 64oz of water.. most times because im to afraid that if i drink water i would become hungry and would be driven to eat... how do you guys over come this?

    First Road Trip

good luck..... i took my first long trip this weekend.. and im only 14 days out.. you;d be fine. i had a protein shake with me... so i sipped on that as opposed to juice soda or a frap from starbucks... and when i did get hungry i had pre made food from home.. blended chicken... and yogurt ( separately of course) and i was good to go. lol you might actually enjoy it more.. no more waiting in long lines for food at rest stops.. just bathroom and hit the road again.. it helps for travel time.. lol.. have fun

Last Test Before Submitting Paper Work.

i did do the stress test.. i was horrible on the treadmill.. my doc said my heart was fine.. i just had a low tolerence for working out.. ( because of the weight of course) but the stress test was fine.. you will be awesome.. make sure to keep me updated..
  19. sometimes i have these thoughts... but i also look at my mom.. who has diabeties.. hypertention.... and high cholestorol.. and my dad who has 25% of a functioning heart and everything under the sun wrong. they both take so many pills i can hardly keep up and i think to myself.. i dont want that to be me. i dont have any of these complications... YET.... but im willing to try to avoid them for as long as i could. sometimes it does get frustrating and i think i wont have as much success as the other person... but at least im giving myself the chance to not have as much complications later down the road. maybe we wont have the killer bod, but wed be a whole lot healthier !!! hope that shed some new light and encouragement as you continue ur journey...

    Waiting And Ready

i remember my decision making process as well. its one of the best decisions you'd make. ive only been banded for 14 days now.. and only lost 22lbs.. ive got some ways to go.. but after joining the gym.. and changing my eating habits.. i just feel better about myself... you will to. one of the things i did even before surgery was start excersing. i went very slow on the treadmill.. my pace.. no one elses.. and i got myself used to soem of the machines at the gym. it made me better ready for what was to come after surgery i think.. and working out realeases natural endorphines that make you feel.. well.. for lack of a better term.. giddy... i wish all the best with ur pre surgical testings... its alot trust me i know.. but stick with it.. itd pay of.
  21. i've found that if i drink to fast sometimes and get that uncomfortable to full feeling.. standing helps.. hands over the head.. taking deep breaths.... sounds weird.. but hey whatever works right?
