Yup, it's not that bad, not a walk in the park, but not bad enough to let it change your mind about having the surgery. Congrats, and welcome to the journey.

In my healthcare experience, your doctors office should have done a predetermination. This is different from authorization. A predetermination would decipher 1. If the procedure your requesting is a covered benefit 2. If you meet the requirements for this procedure. Most hospitals will not do wls unless there is a pre-d on file. So first I would ask your surgeon if he has a copy of the predetermination on file. A pre-d comes directly from the insurance company, authorizations many times are out sourced, and done by a third party company that has no knowledge of insurance benefits. So for future reference I hope everyone understands the difference between both, As insurance companies are sneaky and will try to wiggle their wAy out of paying anything. So many times when you have a pre-d you may or may of also need to obtain authorization. Please be aware that pre-d comes from your claims dept and authorizations come from medical management, sometimes you may only need a pre-d, but that is not always the case. Hopefully ur doctors office has a pre-d on file. If not in my experience it is usually customary that the hospital write off the expense. However it takes a lot of knowledge and persistence to get them to do this. Please do not hesitate to message me, I will try to help you navigate the system as best I can. 14 years healthcare experience.

Feeling A Little Discouraged..:(
chitowngirl replied to msaprildawn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well I also am down about the same amount of weight and I have not went down any sizes. I'm sure this is because plus size clothes are made so funky that they can carry us thru a large weight variation. I did measure myself the day before my surger and again at the one month mark, and I lost A total of 15 inches. So I do advise taking your measurements. -
I'm 5 weeks out I tried some salad and it was definelty a no no. It was just way to rough going down.

If you have a ppo, the choice is really yours. I had my procedure done @ university of Chicago, I loved their program as it is very established I also liked the fact that the bariatric nurse herself had the sleeve. They have dietitians on call at all times. Northwestern hospital, and university of Illinois has a pretty good program. Check out their webssites. I know university of Chicago is a bariatric center of excellence. So I would make sure they a center of excellence. When I was at my meetings I met a few women from pretty far out as far as 2-3 hours. Also at UofC if you have a bmi over 40 you get a private room, which is nice if you need someone to stay over night with you. Feel free to ask me any questions.

@ Maria what type of policy do you have? Ppo or ***? I work in a hospital and know insurance like the back of my hand. I can really help you navigate the system, I just need a little more information. Also what area are you in? What's the nearest big city?

Awesome. I was just looking at how improperly my bras fit me, im only about 5 weeks out, so I think I'm gonna have to splurge on some new bras. -
I think the 1500 is more long term. My nut actually said I should focus on getting my protein in as I am only 5 weeks out. Me getting in 60g of protein I end up consuming about 800 calories

What Foods Should I Eat One Last Time B4 Surgery?
chitowngirl replied to Amom2twins's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To be honest, with the sleve there is not really anything you can't have. It's all about the moderation. I consume mostly protein, once in a while I may treat myself to something sweet. I am 6 weeks out and I have had steak tacos with no problems -

Stupid, Non Weight-Loss Related "vanity" Question
chitowngirl replied to ouroborous's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had went to a medical spa, there a plastic surgeon looked over me for free, I went in for a facial. He wrote all his recommendations as far as facial care. Needless to say I didn't do them all that day, but I did get a facial and a microdermabrasion, I still do have the sheet with the laser treatment recommendations. So I recommend going to an actual medical surgical spa, they always have the techs on hand to give you the treatments you want.
