I Was In Tears This Morning

Congratulations! When I get to 299 they are going to have to put me in a straitjacket and shoot me with haldol. I am a good bit behind you but my starting stats were virtually the same. I have a 6 y/o son and we are going to disneyland in december. I am looking forward to riding the rides without trouble with him(i hope). I know that you are ecstatic and let me say again CONGRATULATIONS!!

    Attn: 40 Bmis And Over

i started at a bmi 55 and now at a bmi 42.9 i feel great. i would go through surgery again in a heartbeat. i have talked to several others who have had the surgery and all are down a significant amount of weight. I wouldn't worry about the weight loss, unless you plan on living on potato chips and slider foods. I am basically a carnivore and occassionally will eat a snack but I mostly eat meat at this point - chicken, seaffod, beef. Today for example I had a chicken breast for breakfast, shrimp for lunch, meatloaf(my family had this for dinner), icecream for a snack. Good Luck you will love the sleeve and odds are very good that you will lose weight.

    Top Weight? Goal Weight?

So I am 6'3 and started at 431. I am currently at 343. I picked 230 but would be ok at 250. When I was 22 y/o and running I weighed 210 and could count all my ribs. I am pleased so far. Hopefully some more guys will chime in.
  5. Maybe calories a bit low? Talk to your nutritionist, mine suggested that I up my calories. Too few calories and your body goes into weight conservation mode.
  6. Congratulations! Amazing slide show!

    Bmi 50+

I started with a bmi of 54 and I am down to 43. I think it is certainly doable. I would do the surgery again in a heartbeat. I wish I had done it years ago. Good luck with your decision! One thing I would add is be kind to yourself. Even if you have a bite of chocolate it's not the end of the world, the nice thing is that the sleeve won't let you turn that bite of chocolate into a bag of chocolate.

    Help.. I Feel Terrible

Relax, the weight will continue to come off. It is a marathon not a sprint. My surgeon says that everyone loses in a sawtooth fashion. You will do fine. You have done great so far!
  9. Everyone is different. The first day of surgery was miserable , but I walked 2 miles on the bariatric floor. I was cleared for liquids and was on lorcet on day 2 - not as spacey as the morphine made me feel. I took no narcotics after I went home the next day. I went back to work at 2 weeks, at a reduced schedule and easied back into full speed by 4 weeks. I lost weight quickly at first but am losing 1-2 pounds a week currently. It will take a long time for me to get to goal but I feel so much better I rate it a success. This is not as good as some , but I am not ketotic and miserable. I hope this helps.

    So Depressed

Mom is great! Also senekot and miralax work well.
  13. I agree with rootman. I am 6'3 and I workout. I am steadily losing weight and taking in 1200calories. I think activity, height, gender(sorry ladies), age all figure into how fast you metabolize as well as your genetics. My nutritionist has rec at least 1200 for me since I am exercising. If I was 5'0 I am sure it would be less in rec calories. I was so excited to see my current waist size in jeans until I saw none in my inseam. I guess they figure there are no tall guys with a big waist. Stick with what your nutritionist suggests for you and you will do fine.

    Vitamin Recommendation?

I take the children's vitamins. They taste better, but you have to take two. They also come in dinosaur shapes which my son likes.

    Losing Slow At Very Beginning?

I talked with the bariatrics team. Almost everyone loses in a stair step pattern. People lose a bit and then are flat or may be up a few pounds. But over time the weight will come off. I feel so much better that even if it slows I still think that it is worth it. Keep your spirits up and do well!
