  1. I think I have been harder on myself than anyone else and I finally decided to go to the sleeve. When people ask I say," Haven't you heard that it cures diabetes and hypertension by changing the levels of stomach hormones?". This usually ends the discussion.
  2. Congratulations! i am set for tuesday as well.

    Negative Thinking Taking Over.....

I think it depends on whats behind door number two. If you are looking at diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, congestive heart failure, renal failure , risk of blindness with pseudotumour and untreated sleep apnea or diabetes, just to name a few the risks become strongly in the favor of the surgery. I have a young son and I have to be there for him for me it was an easy decision. Two years ago I was set for surgery and I tried diet and exercise again and I lost 50 plus pounds. I regained it and decided to have have surgery. I am at peace currently and am ready for surgery tuesday am.

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Lauranbob is the taste of the nausea meds making you nauseated? They make zofran in a dissolving tablet and phenergan can be dispensed as a gel to rub on your wrist or as a suppository.

    Hypocrites

Just ignore them. Some people are only happy if they are attacking others, it puts the focus off their own problems. You are doing great!

    Insurance Advice?

You can shop it in the US or overseas for cheaper rates. I am paying out of an MSA so it counts as self pay and it is costing me 12k. It is a good deal since it is my local hospital and I know all the docs. You may be able to find a cheaper deal at other US locations, certainly can overseas.
  13. I had a medical savings account for 10 years and had enough in it for the procedure. Last year the cost of maintaining the msa went up 30% in one year, thank you Obamacare, so the accountant and the operations manager met with the other partners and I and we switched to bobs. Bcbs denied me but I needed that denial to cover my using the msa for the procedure. So if bcbs has a change of heart I would have to undo the MSA distribution( a Pain) or get audited. So I am one of the few people hoping my insurance denies me like they said they would. I add agin that msa accounts are great.

Where Are All The Men Sleevers?

Here. I left a post about being the only guy at the bariatric center. I thought for a bit that I was the only guy who had wls surgery. The office staff laughed and said there were a few men but the majority were women.

    Proud, Embarrassed Or Horrified?

I think proud would be my answer and happy since since you live in Hawaii!

    The Countdown Is On.....

A big reason that I am having the surgery is for the diabetes and hypertension control. Slowly I have been adding meds for both and I can see the complications in 10 years. I am looking forward to some improvement if not cure. I wish you good luck with your progress.

    Vitamins?

Nutritionist said it was ok to take 2 children's chewable. She also gave me a 2 page list of vitamins with comments about taste. I plan on flintstones chewable 2 a day.
  19. I was at the surgeons office for an entire day to prep for my surgery on april 10th. I was the only guy in the classes all day. All the followup people were women as well. Not saying it was a bad thing being the only guy , but not what I expected. It was a fun day with a couple of nurses, accountants, and a couple of teachers prepping for surgery. I would defend men in general when the male bashing started but overall it was an interesting experience. I look forward to the post op support meetings .
  20. Great posts! I love the positive attitude and I feel uplifted as I read your posts. Keep em coming Diva!

    Alcohol After Being Sleeved

Apparently post gastric bypass and less so with the sleeve alcohol hits quicker. Our coordinator stated that they tried shots At the support meeting and labeled it a17 sec drunk.

Can I Lose The Weight On My Own?

I was overweight untill my 20's. To quote Jimmy Buffett," Losing weight without speed eating sunflower seeds" I lost weight. It required about 2 hours a day of exercise and a healthy diet. I worked more and more as I aged and regained the weight plus some. I have tried and have lost weight since only to regain it. A friend of mine talked about losing weight and he stated that ,"going to club med for a year to lose weight only to regain is not a realistic goal". He also asked who would provide for my family while I was away? I enjoy eating and have a habit of stress eating as well. For me having the surgery is the right answer at this point in my life. If you have doubts give weight loss a shot. I think you need to be ready for the surgery. A year and a half ago I lost weight and regained it. I am now mentally ready for surgery and am set for april the 10th. This is a great site and I am sure people on it would support either decision you made.

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

April 10th and I'm excited. I was set for surgery 2 years ago but had to try to keep weight off on my own one last time. Now I'm ready and a bit nervous.
  24. Congratulations, my date is april the 10th. I am nervous but excited as well. Good Luck!

Ramblings, Feral Chickens, And Circus Clowns

I hate flying. I have watched people do the same thing to me on flights. When I have to fly I pay for business or first class tickets so at least the staff has to be polite. I hope that post my surgery I will be able to fly more without feeling the stigma of being overweight. I also wanted to say great post.
