    TLBC Bandsters!

Just like weight makes your feet larger it also affects your height, maybe?
  2. marmalou: To answer you we would have to have more information. When you say you try to help. Are you always on his case or do you quietly support him no matter what he does. My husband is an enabler. That is he loves to give me things I like, particularly food. After the band, he quietly accepts anything I do, including if I gain weight. My point to you bluntly "is get off his case and quit trying to actively change him". You married the man not the size of the body. Let him decide what he wishes to eat and drink. He knows what the guidelines are and if you put out healthy food and drink if HE WANTS to, he will choose them. If not, that is his decision not yours. Support and love him no matter what is decisions are. Someday he will come to gripps with his problem, but he is the only one to do it. I hope I haven't been too brutal, but there is no simple answer. He is an adult and must answer to himself. Doddie

    Keeping it a secret?

Hi TedOB. Doesn't matter in the least what others think, it is what you think of your decision. When and if you wish to discuss it with others, that too is your decision. I don't point fingers or look down on people that tell a little white lie because that is their decision and as long as they are comfortable that is all that counts. I just have cautioned people that telling a lie has a way of coming back at your. Better to say nothing or give as little information at possible. In Canada, we have had a major Victory. Obese people can now buy a plane ticket for two seats at the cost of a single. How long that will last after Air Canada appeals is a guess. The editorial in the paper today say why should thin people be penalized supporting a fat person who has just not made the effort to control their weight. I am seething mad that this attitude exists today. So everyone whatever you want to say or not say is your right. Good Luck Doddie

    Slow Losers Unite!

I am a slow loser but I am a slow loser because I keep a loose fill. I have found that bad food goes down easier when you are too tight. If you keep a looser fill you can eat the harder protein and veggies. It may not be a solution to everyone, but numerous posts suggests it can help many. Doddie

Pattern of weight loss - What is yours

Proof is in the puddin. Keeping records shows you that uneven weight loss gain eventually ends up a plus. Well done.

    TLBC Bandsters!

I agree with Green. TLBC recommends in their literature that all banded patients of theirs return once a year for them to check on the band and how the patient is doing. You should get an appoint ASAP. They have a tremendous support group network that can help you restart your journey. Good Luck Doddie

    Keeping it a secret?

Hi: Good news. Has anyone seen the Federal Court (Canadian) has ruled that Air Canada must supply physically challenged people with two seats at the cost of a single. This includes obese people as well. I am sure the judgment will be appealed but at last, the obese are now considered physically challenged. Of course, editorials came out complaining that all we had to do was show some self control and loose weight but now we would be allowing ourselves to eat ourselves to even higher weight. Ohhhhhhh how I would like to get my hands on that guy. Doddie
  9. Hi Bert99. I live in North Vancouver. How in heavens name did you make it over the border. LOL Doddie

Pattern of weight loss - What is yours

Yes this is my point. So many posts show individuals that are defeated because of weight gain after strenuous exercise, low food intake and yet they show gains. People trying to loose weight have to know their bodies and how the weight is lost. When they know what occurs then they won't get discouraged.

    Keeping it a secret?

They know only too well how difficult is but their problem is usually only 10 or 20 lbs. They turn their noses in the air because in my opinion they are jealous that we have finally made the decision to control our bodies and minds. People seem to like to snear at someone rather than look at themselves. When we take away their object of superiority, I think they then have to look at themselves and they don't like it.

    A Plateau at 4 months ?? Help??

Good thinking Donna D. I read all the time of individuals increasing the fill more and more and still not making progress. Instead of looking to increase look to decrease. Many long time bandsters I have chatted with tell me they keep a loose fill. Impatience may bring on more problems than just taking your time. Learn how to eat smaller portions, healthy portions and to keep your self moving in a sensible exercise program. I always remember the story about the "turtle and the hare". That's me folks. .85 lbs a week average. I get down sometimes but my Doctors are very encouraging and remind me I didn't put it all on overnight. I think I will start a link about how people find their weight loss. For instance, I start off at the first of the month at a lower weight then I increase in weight and decrease each week.Usually on the fourth week of the month, I decrease to a lower weight that I showed at the start of the previous month. Make sense? It can be pretty depressing sometime but I like to keep track of my weight and watch the pattern on weight loss.

    A Plateau at 4 months ?? Help??

I am so against "exercising to the extreme". You can cause tremendous damage to your joints that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes is around 170 calories and vigerously walking doesn't expend that much more, but it does extends the joints putting a lot of stress of them. I would suggest you exercise moderately and reduce the type of food you are eating. Many of us overfill our bands and can only eat mushies stuff which tends to be on the bad side of the food charts such as ice cream, milkshakes, etc. As for what type of exercise, I went to the community gym and was assessed by their counsellors. They have me going to aqua fit for one hour each day. I have no stress on my joints but expend more energy than I would on dry land. Hardest part was getting into a bathing suit at 303 lbs. LOL My point being, pick an exercise you will maintan. Doddie

    So Happy :)

andreerichards: You have cause to celebrate. You are really isolated and I wonder how you are getting support in your community. Is there a WL group meeting you go to or do you get your support from the internet? Doddie

    Slow Losers Unite!

Thanks Denise I will go there and take a looksee. You certainly seem to be doing very well with only 10 lbs to go. How has the weight been coming off in these final lbs? Doddie
  18. Doddie63

    I want to join

You have to find out your problem first. Are you too restricted so you are eating "easy mushie" foods that carry more calories and you can consume more, or do you not have enough fill to control your consumption. Exercise MUST be something you like to do or you are setting yourself up for failure. Say to your self "Just for today, I will do....." then do it. Don't pick something hard to do. Start off at a pace you can maintain. I am borrowing a saying from AA, that is "Just for today I will do....". The saying works for me as I go to aqua fit classes. I like aqua fit but to get out into the morning cold is difficult to I always use the above phrase to get me going. It may work for you.

    Slow Losers Unite!

Hi I was banded Feb. 01/07. on Jan. 1 pre op I was 303 and on todays date I am 250. My average weight loss has been .85 lbs per week whether I exercise or not. I feel under pressure because I am not loosing the required 2 lbs per week but just can't seem to improve without getting a fill. I am not an exercise fan so know that I would never sustain an exercise program over time so try to balance my food intake with a bit of exercise. It is frustrating to exercise for 30 minutes on the treadmill and use only 170 calories so I say to myself why bother. Does anyone have any ideas how to motivate oneself over a long term.

    2nd fill 3 weeks ago...need advise

sherrylynn: You sound like you have the right attitude and resilience to succeed. With the band there is no doubt. I can't wait until I hear the words "I am in the oneunder club". Go Gal, Go. Doddie
  21. well said fousilly. there is no quarantee we will have future care if our doctors leave, retire, etc. All we can hope for is the MSA in each province make it a general office visit. Some doctors are trying, but the various Colleges are procrastinating on their decisions. So any newbies out there, take an established clinic and let the new one makes its reputation on someone else. Doddie

sherrylynn. Congratulations on your weight loss. I can empathize with your desire to loose the weight and am cheering you all the way. I smile when you say you are 46. You are so young and what a wonderful life you will have when you reach goal. Good work. PS: I am 63 and not counting. Doddie
  23. I take my shoes off and I carry a pair of fold up cloth slippers to put on at all times. If I know I am going to visit someone, I carry my shoes that I intend to wear in the house. I am thinking of a party and my dressup shoes. Hate to be in a gorgeous dress (when I reach goal) and walk around in bare feet. What do others do? Doddie
  24. went back to CIBO and did not find any reference to the doctor we all appear to be thinking about. The surgeon is a female doctor trained in the US. So I wouldn't worry about that but I would be concerned about her track record and how if I was research a clinic would find that out? Any ideas for newbies researching. Doddie
  25. Oh! that is a surprise. When I change my weight, I just input my information and that is all I do? Love the way you are tracking your weight loss. Very original. Doddie
