I had contemplated Lap Band surgery for a long while. I knew I couldn't do the Gastric Bypass but the band looked like a good option for me since it was adjustable and removable if it needed to be....and no rearranging of the intestines.  Last year I had gotten to my heaviest weight EVER and to a place where I never thought I would be...270 lbs! For a tall person that is a lot of weight. For someone 4'11" it is a WHOLE LOT of weight.  At 36 years old I knew something had to change.  I wanted to be here to see my son grow up, to be able to ride go-karts on vacation without worrying if I am going to fit in the kart or if the seat belt will fit around me. And, I didn't want him to be embarrassed of his fat mom or for kids to make comments to him about me that would make him feel bad about or for me.

Every time in the past that I had lost any weight I always found it and several of its friends.

I was worried about what my family would say if I told them and if they would try to talk me out of the surgery if I made that decision.  So, I went to the seminar, had my consultation, and went through all the steps toward getting insurance approval.  I was surprised that I did not have to do the 6 month diet before surgery but was very thankful that it would not be delayed for that period of time.  I finally told my family about a month before the surgery after everything was set and all I had left to do was the 2 week diet beforehand with high protein, low carb, low fat to shrink the liver and start weight loss.  During that 2 week diet I lost 14 pounds.

I had my Lap Band with Plication surgery on October 25,2011 and wish I had done it sooner.  There are some adjustments to make but I expected that. I was pleased with the surgery and had little pain from the incisions. However, when they tell you that you may have some pain in your shoulder from the gas, they aren't joking!  That was the worst part for me and lasted at least 2 weeks.

At just over 4 months out I still struggle to get my 64 oz of water/fluid and 64 oz of protein in each day.  Most days I get the protein, most days not as much fluid as I should but I am trying!  I have lost 48 pounds so far as of 3/4/12 and still want to lose about 60 or 70 more but it is one day, one meal, one bite, one food choice at a time.  I didn't get to 270 in a month and I won't lose 120 lbs in a month either.
