    Multi Vitamin

Several of my friends do the Flintsone's chewables and don't have a problem with them. I ordered mine from Celebrate Vitamins online. They have several flavors and you can order a sample pack preop and decide which flavor works best for you. I go back and forth between Mandarin Orange and Blackberry for the multivitamins. They have a chewable iron in Grape that is pretty good. Good Luck!

    Lapband And Diabetes

I was banded on March 7 and am a type 2 diabetic. Before surgery I was on Metformin and 6-8 insulin shots a day. I was checking my blood sugar every 4 hours and using a sliding scale fast acting insulin and the basal insulin to try to get better control. My surgery was originally scheduled in February but my Hemoglobin A1c was 9.6 and my surgeon wouldn't do it until I got it down. He gave me the go ahead when I got it down to 8.3. Post op I was told to continue the Metformin and check my sugars and just use the sliding scale Insulin until I got back to regular food.My morning blood sugars were in the 60's so I stopped the Metformin. I have not needed any insulin (or Blood Pressure medicine) in almost 2 months. YAY!! Good Luck!
  4. I had an appointment with the anesthesiologist 1 week before my surgery. They want to know all your past medical and past surgical history. If you have any major issues, he will want to know if you are cleared by that physician to proceed with surgery.(I have had a bad lung infection so he wanted to know if my pulmonologist had cleared me.) They want to know if you or any immediate family members have ever had a bad reaction to anesthesia. Mine went over my medication list and told me what to take the morning of surgery and what to skip. After he went through all that he did some education about the type of anesthesia they would be using, explained how it would all work the morning of surgery and had me sign the consent for anesthesia. At my hospital you meet the preop nurse the same day. She went over the preop shower, body wash protocol and how to use the Incentive Spirometer after surgery. It really wasn't a big deal and only took about 30 minutes. Good Luck!

    Any Missouri Lap-Band Patients?

AmandaBelle- My surgeon was Dr. Snow...he is awesome. His office is in South St. Louis County but he does his surgeries at the Surgical Hospital in Festus. Dr Kurzweil is a good surgeon. He has done surgery on my Dad before...not bariatric..but he did a great job. April isn't that far away....you are almost there!

    Any Missouri Lap-Band Patients?

I spent overnight in the hospital and took the pain medication they gave me, but I didn't use any of the pain meds they sent home with me. The larger incision was not really painful, it was just more tender than the others. It felt like it pulled when I moved. The worst discomfort I had was from the gas pains that everyone talks about. A lot of walking takes care of that I did have a little trouble with nausea and felt crappy for the first 4 or 5 days but then it was like a light switch flipped and I feel great! PS: They did sent me home with nausea medicine that works great!

    Any Missouri Lap-Band Patients?

Hi! I am from Missouri too. I live just south of the Festus/Crystal City area. Our local hospital has a support group that meets once a month. I haven't made a meeting yet. I was just banded on March 7th so I am new to this whole thing but if you have any questions or want to talk I'm here. I started the clear liquid preop diet on Feb 25th and finally today is the day that I can eat soft food...YAY! I never thought I would be happy to eat mashed potatoes lol. As of yesterday my weight was down 30 pounds...never thought I would say that either! Good Luck to both of you!!
  8. Hi! I was banded on 3/7 and had the same "horrid face" pain at the larger incision. Mine has gotten better everyday, today it is mostly just a twinge. My doc said that is where the port is and that's why it hurts more. Keep your head up....by next week it will feel tons better.
  9. Hello, My surgery is scheduled for Wed March 7th. 3 days left and I am getting super nervous. I am on day 8 of the clear liquid preop diet. I have made it this far and I will make it the rest of the way, but gosh it’s hard.
