    One Year 92 Lbs

Thank you for answering. I think I will always deal with the same thing, but it is nice to know the band can help us be aware of physical hunger vs head hunger.

    Liquid Diet

I start liquids on Saturday but have been sampling some beforehand. I can't lie, they're gross! I hate that protein-y smell and the thickness of them. But Myoplex french vanilla, and Muscle Milk Light in cafe latte are bearable. I like Isopure in alpine punch flavor. Isopure is my favorite because it's not milky.. It's more like a thicker Gatorade. If you add extra water in the bottle it's decent.

    Liquid Diet

I start liquids on the 28th. I am not looking forward to it, but my nutritionist said it gets easier after the 5th day or so.
  4. After 6 long months I just got the call that I'm approved for surgery! I was really expecting the worst so I'm in shock. Very excited though! Meeting with my surgeon on the 19th and pre-op nutritionist appointment on the 25th.

    Just Got The Call... Approved

Thank you! It took 2 weeks to the day from my last nutritionist appointment to approval. Felt like an eternity. lol
  6. Try not to stress over it. I don't think this test will make or break your approval, because they are looking at overall health. I did not have sleep apnea or any comorbodities, and was still approved.
  7. Congrats on deciding to take this step! I know it's disappointing to have to wait. I finished my 6 month wait at the end of March and am getting banded in a couple of weeks. So like she said, it does fly by. Take this time to care for yourself emotionally, try some protein drinks, add in some physical activity, start telling trusted friends, etc. And if you get frustrated come here and vent. :-P

    One Year 92 Lbs

Congrats! Great accomplishment! Thank you for sharing. I am getting banded in 16 days and experiences like yours are very encouraging. Now that you are one year out, how have you dealt with the "head hunger"? Do you still have it? Some people say it is a daily battle and others say they no longer have a desire to overindulge in the unhealthy foods.

Let us know how surgery went!! Wishing you the best today.

    Nervous Wreck

You know, it is nice to know these feelings are normal. I thought i was the only one! Now that surgery is 16 days away I am scared. Not so much of the physical pain of surgery, but of failing. Food has been my best friend and constant for so many years but I know it has only hurt me and at 22, this weight has already made me miss out on so much. I am thinking of this tool as the fresh start I need. Reading your posts on these boards has been a huge encouragement to me.

    Cookies :(

Do not beat yourself up over it. Instead, think of what may have caused you to slip up. We all have triggers, and if yours is sweets, it's not wise to have those foods in the house, period. Or can you have a healthier option in the house that is individually packaged so you're not tempted to keep on eating?

    Just Got The Call... Approved

Congrats on your weight loss! That is amazing. I met the surgeon today and he was so friendly, he was willing to answer my questions, and that put my mind at least. My surgery is May 8th!! Yay! Caramel, did you get a date?

    Just Got The Call... Approved

Thanks ladies!! That means a lot. I am so excited for you all who have been recently approved as well. Oh wow meeting w/ surgeon same day. I know how you feel. I am looking forward to starting my new life but am also a nervous wreck right now.
  15. Great job!! WOW. You should definitely be proud of yourself.
  16. Thank you! I meet with my surgeon on the 19th so will find out then.

    Here I Go...

Going to the info session is a great step. Wish you all the best!
  18. Welcome. I know how you feel. I just finished my 6 months but in hindsight I am glad I had that time to start making small changes -- giving up pop, exercising more, and just getting my head around the whole thing. It will fly by. Hang in there!

    Telling Friends And Family

I have only shared it with 4 close friends, a minister, my mom and sister. My mom, sister, and one of my friends (who understands my struggles with weight) are very excited for me. However, I did have one friend who basically said I shouldn't take this "easy way out" -- instead I should just learn to eat healthy and exercise. It makes me sad that she doesn't understand that I will still be doing all those things and the band is just my tool. I am a little hesistant to broadcast it to everyone aftr so many failed weight loss attempts, but have decided if it comes up, I need to learn how to "own" my band and be open. This is something I'm still trying to work through before surgery.

    Need Greek Yogurt Suggestions

I normally hate yogurt. I am lactose intolerant but I think part of it is mental. LOL. But yoplait and chobani make delicious greek yogurts. If you're looking for something without fruit chunks in it I recommend Chobani "champion" yogurt. It's their kid size and is already blended up so there's no chunks at all.

    Making Myself Sick/crazy

I know what you're going through. I am in the exact same boat as you. This waiting game sucks and in my head I keep going over all the things that could go wrong (rejection letter). I am irritated, emotional over everything and can't sleep at night. I think your feelings are normal. All you can do is try to distract yourself in the meantime. Go shopping, listen to music, exercise, etc.
  23. Thanks for heads up Twi. That is one of my fears. My doctor said she needed me to follow my diet strictly so she could see i was ready for the band, but you just never know. I have heard of some people here losing on the supervised diet, some maintaining and some gaining who got approved. I'm just really hoping for the best. :/
  24. I was in the same boat. I am also 22 and because of my weight avoided seeing my regular doctor like the plague. LOL. But I sucked it up because I knew I needed her sign off to start the process. Explain your story to the doctor -- and what you have done in the past that failed (like you I have struggled with this as long as I can remember... Every time I lost weight I gained it back and then some). Explain how you think this surgery can help you. My regular doctor was understanding and signed off. However, the bariatrician I saw in my very first appointment was a JERK. She was negative and because of my age, all but told me I'd fail. She tried to disuade me but throughout the 6 month supervised diet, that motivated me to prove her wrong. Down 30 lbs and i havent had the band yet. Just know it is a possibility some doctors may try to sway you against it because you're young. But don't give up!! You can do this.
  25. Congrats, Jim! I'm happy for you. After a difficult road to approval you must be relieved. My doctor submitted me to insurance on the 28th as well. They said it will take two weeks to hear back. For the first time on this journey I am an emotional wreck. Irritable, anxious and barely sleeping (but also excited). Is this normal? Haha
