    Lapband Failure

I'm sorry you are going through that Erica. I doubt some of the complications you went through helped in your weight loss. I am not judging you, but you said you are eating the wrong foods and not sticking to the advice you were given. Why? Fills won't do anything if you are drinking while eating, snacking or having slider foods. The cycle of guilt, overeating, then hating myself because I "failed" is what made me fat to begin with so I am trying not to be "perfect" this time, but eat in a way I can live with long term. Willpower is difficult but necessary for ANY type of WLS.

    Anyone Doing Or Did Insanity....

Never tried Insanity, but I have tried P90X and literally thought my heart was going to explode out of my chest. It was way too hard on my body. I would like to try something like P90X or Insanity when I am closer to goal weight though.

    Zumba

I love it. The best part is, its not about doing the steps perfectly. Just about moving your body. I went regularly for a couple months, but got tired of the instructor. She wasn't very energetic and always did the same songs. I want to find a different Zumba class now. Has anyone tried Aqua Zumba?

    Liquid Pre Opt Diet Help!!!!

The #1 thing that helped me get through the liquids was making a list of the 25 reasons I want to lose weight. I read it every time I felt like giving up, and I still do. If you can, try mixing it up with different textures of liquids. sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicle, and hot tea. I also literally threw away ALL the food in my house before I started.
  7. A heating pad, wedge pillow, and chapstick came in handy for me. I had major dry mouth/lips after surgery.

    My First Fill 06/15/2012

I had my first fill today and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. As for the weight loss, I know how you feel but don't be so hard on yourself. My surgeon told me the first 6 weeks is about healing, and eating when you are hungry. It's incredibly hard to lose anything when we are constantly hungry, and some say it takes several fills to reach the green zone. Focus on the positives -- exercising regularly, making better food choices, portion control, etc. The weight loss will come.

    Accountability

Thanks! I am HATING having to be on liquids for these 2 days, but I got through today so only 1 day left. Even though I only have 1 cc in my band, I'm scared of food getting stuck when I do begin to eat again. I found some WLS cookbooks on Amazon.. thinking of ordering them! Or printing some from on here. Before the band I ate a TON of fast food and take out, so I am still learning how to cook healthy for myself. But i do find preparing a healthy meal for myself makes me feel really good. Open to any suggestions you guys may have. Today I had skim milk, water, and some cranberry juice. Need to get soy protein powder. Exercise - 1 hour belly dance class. Loved it. Meeting with my trainer tomorrow for a 1 hour session. How did you guys do today? And has anyone heard from Debbie? I am worried about her.
  13. The pre op diet is nothing like life after the band. While we all follow the same basic rules, different things work for different people. Personally, I refuse to live a life of deprivation just because I have the band. I'm going to make good choices the majority of the time, but I am also going to allow myself treats in moderation. I am not giving up my social life. However, like the above poster said, the band can't do all the work for us. You have to be willing to exercise and make better food choices or it wont work. As much as we would all like fast results, weight loss is only 1-2lbs a week with the band.
  14. I am wondering what you guys are doing for cal free or low cal liquids? I have been drinking lots of Water, but am not liking crystal light, Gatorade low cal or Powerade zero (my nutritionist suggested those). Has anyone tried Trop A Rocka Diet Snapple? I am not sure if its ok for me to drink, but it's 10 cals per bottle and low carb.

Lol, same thing happened to me. I feel a lot more comfortable eating at home than I do in a restaurant... not sure why. Got my fill this morning. Only 1cc but it went well. Have to be on liquids today and tomorrow, then back to my regular foods.
  16. I have my first fill on 6/14 and I'm so scared. I am afraid of needles and it hurting really badly. I know that's silly considering I just had surgery. I guess I need some reassurance or an idea of what to expect. :/ will it be painful, will I be throwing up after the fill, will I need to be on liquids before/after?

    May Bandsters!

Got my fill this morning. It was uncomfortable and a weird feeling, but not painful. My stomach doesn't feel too settled at the moment.. Maybe it's swelling. Anyway the PA weighed me and said I am down 16lbs since surgery (yay)! She thinks I may be near the green zone already because I'm losing so well. But that doesn't make sense to me cuz I told her I'm only full for 2 hours! She said I should be full for 4-5. I will need to ask more questions next time but i guess this is a good starting point. Anyway she put in 3cc's, had me sit up with the needle in and drink some Water. The water had lots of air bubbles going down into my tummy so she said I was too full. She took out 2ccs. I only have 1cc in my band now. I am just praying I'm not hungry 24/7 now that there's some Fluid in there. Have to be on liquids for next 48 hrs then can start eating solids. I'm a little worried cuz my friends wedding is on Saturday and I want to be able to eat normally.

    Waking Up In The O.r????

After you're prepped for surgery you will meet the anesthesiologist, and have the chance to ask questions. You should be totally fine but don't be afraid to voice your concerns. I don't even remember being knocked out.. LOL! By the time you wake up in recovery your breathing tube will be out.
  19. My surgeon didn't put any fluid in my band.

Terrified To Get My First Fill This Week!

Well you guys were totally right about the fill. It was uncomfortable and a weird sensation, but definitely not painful. I didn't expect to feel this weird after the fill though. So glad I've gotten the first one out of the way.

    Accountability

Thank you for the words of encouragement. Fortunately my appointment is 8am so it'll be over with first thing in the morning! That pudding sounds yummy. And 10 min walking is good. The important thing is that you just keep moving. Breakfast - 3/4c greek yogurt Lunch - 1/2 pita pizza, 1/4 banana (I had lunch with friends and had trouble relaxing while eating. I find it easier to eat when I am with family or alone.. is that weird? eating in public is more uncomfortable) Dinner - 1/2 pita pizza, 1/3 cup baby spinach, a few tomato slices with 2 tbsp fat free balsamic vinaigrette Exercise - 15 mins recumbent bike and 15 mins elliptical I ate two hours ago and am STARVING again. last night i was so hungry laying in bed I couldn't fall asleep. Frustrating.

    Crazy Skinny Goals!

Go into a regular store and buy whatever I want. Go to an amusement park and ride every single rollercoaster without worrying. Go to a waterpark. Wear a bikini. Not be the "fat" friend or "fat" girl at the party. Wear a strapless dress. Teach a zumba class and inspire others to get healthy. Go para-sailing. Run a 5k.

25 In The Boston, Ma Area!!

It's funny how your tastes start to change after surgery. Crystal light and diet snapples make me gag now. Something about the fake fruity sugary taste. It doesn't satisfy me the way real fruit juice does. If only fruit juice was 0 calories. Everything in moderation I guess! Anyways, I'm sorry. The liquids are hell. Have you tried a lower cal low sugar apple juice like Motts for Tots? Have you tried hot tea with skim milk if you are allowed? Remember, this is the hardest part and in a short while you will be able to eat a large variety of food and drink again. Remember why you did this, and stay strong.

    Now I'm Scared!

I had the same thoughts. I was emotional one second, then the next second it felt completely surreal. I couldn't believe I was going to go through with it. Didnt become real until they put that IV in and starting rolling me to the OR! Despite the struggles I am glad I did it. God took care of me. The reality of the surgery is nowhere near as scary as what you're imagining. Trust me.

    Embarrssing Bathroom Issue

I recently ended up in the hospital because I had let my constipation get to the point that my bowel was obstructed up to my colon. I hadn't had a BM in over a week and thought nothing of it... Big mistake! Continue taking the miralax every couple days and also take stool softeners daily. Up your water intake even more. Try activia, hot tea, and prune juice. if you don't feel comfortable doing your own suppository, don't hesitate to go to Urgent Care and get help before it becomes more serious.
