    May Bandsters!

I'm sure your fill will go just fine. i think my hunger is *slightly* lessened since my fill, and I haven't had any stuck episodes since. Then again I am even MORE paranoid now and am chewing like crazy, avoiding fluffy breads and dry looking meat completely. lol What size band does everyone have? I only have 1cc of Fluid in an 8cc band. The Dr originally put in 3ccs but said that was actually too tight. I have not seen anyone around here that has as little fluid in their band as I do. Hmm.
  2. Hi Johnathan! Congrats on starting your journey towards a healthier you! I was banded a little under 6 weeks ago. Its hard sometimes but I have no regrets. I believe from my seminar to surgery day was 10 months. That's because my insurance co required me to do a 6 month supervised diet to qualify. If you are doing self pay, it will be a lot faster. Whenever you meet with the nutritionist (they will have you schedule that stuff after the seminar) ask what your eating and exercise habits will need to be like after surgery. If possible, starting doing some light exercise now. I was honest about my issues (emotional eating, getting take out daily, being a pop addict) because I wanted a realistic idea of what life would be like on the other side. I would also ask the doctor about potential risks and side effects, recovery, and band adjustments (fills). Wish you all the best!

    Pre Opp Diet?

I can't lie, it's awful. As for the 10lbs, the weight flies off on the liquids. Remember your end goal... It will be worth it!

    One Year With Band Today~

Wow, 95 lbs. That's a dream come true. Thank you for the encouragement.

    Sticking To 4 Oz...

I don't think I could survive on that little. I have 6oz-8oz meals, 3x a day. Also 2-3 glasses of skim milk a day (my doctors recommendation). If I want a snack I will have 4 or 6oz of Greek yogurt and don't feel guilty about it. That being said, I only have 1cc in my band, so that may change.

    Sedentary Looking For Inspiration

I agree, finding exercise you enjoy helps. Try Zumba, a dance class, swimming, walking outdoors, or a workout DVD at home if that's more comfortable. Buy yourself some cute new running shoes and activewear!
  8. Same thing happening to me. It's only when I try to bend over to that side, or sleep in the fetal position on that side where my port is. It doesn't hurt but feels like a pull.

    Advice For First Month Please!

I just finished my first month! I would say grocery shopping for your Clear Liquids, full liquids, and mushies ahead of time is a good idea. Use a heating pad and take your pain meds/anti nausea those first few days. Do as much walking as you can without overdoing it to help with gas pains and healing. Stay hydrated. follow your doctors orders and do not try progressing to solid foods quicker than they say you can. The #1 hardest thing for me the first month was keeping a positive attitude. My emotions are starting to stabilize now. Lol. If youre like me, you will get so frustrated with those liquids and mushies you'll want to scream. Have family and friends around you and post on here for support! Will be over before you know it.
  10. Congrats! It's a great feeling. Wish you all the best on your journey.

Sleepy one - I will let you know how they turn out! And my heart goes out to you. I have struggled with depression since my early teens due to family problems. It is mostly seasonal now, during winter I have some very dark days. I started seeing a therapist again, because I didn't want my depression to sabotage this lifestyle change. You can always message me if you wanna talk. Eye wonder - The rice went down ok. I chewed everything like crazy. My nutritionist said anything is ok in moderation and they don't want me on zero carb due to my constipation issues. I bought some brown rice to try at home.

    Always Seen As Fat

It's not a matter of being ashamed or in denial of where you came from. I think many of us feel like who we are on the outside does not match who we are on the inside. So when the outside finally matches the inside, it would be disappointing to have people still view you how they did before. But at the end of the day its not something we can control. Just my take on it anyway.
  13. Aww, I love this question. I have not decided how to reward myself along the way. But when I get to my ultimate goal weight I want to go on vacation to Australia, New Zealand, or Hawaii. Gotta go somewhere with a beach to show off my new body

After Weight Loss, Does It Get Easier?

I started a regular exercise routine about 7 months before my surgery. I was 326 when I started and could barely do 10 minutes on an elliptical. Now at 257 i can do 30 or 40 minutes. I can't wait to see what exercise is like at my goal weight.

    Always Seen As Fat

Interesting question. I hope people will not see me as who I was in the past. I am starting to change not only externally, but Internally. I have lost 70lbs in the past 9 months (16 of that was post surgery) and I do get very uncomfortable when people who haven't seen me in a while react shocked by how I look. I know it will only get worse when I lose the remaining 90lbs. lol.

    Gaining Weight Mushies?

Totally normal. I gained 7.5lbs when I switched to soft foods. I am on regular foods now and have lost that 7.5 plus a few more. Keep sticking to the plan and things will stabilize.

So Glad I Didnt Get The Sleeve

Reminds me of when I was pre surgery and went to a support group. 90% of the people there were bypass and sleeve patients. They were trying to convince me to switch from the band, even though they spent the whole support group complaining about dumping and their countless correction surgeries. No thanks. I applaud anyone who is successful with bypass or sleeve but I am happy with my band.

Sleepy one - try Josephs pitas. They come in a mini size and are very healthy. Has whole grains and flax in it. As for my hunger now.. I will let you know in a few more days. I was starving on the 2 days liquids after the fill. My hungers been very manageable today. Some say it takes a week or two for a fill to kick in. I went grocery shopping today and am gonna try out tons of new recipes this week. Can't wait. Well I didn't do perfectly today. I went to a friends wedding. Breakfast - 3/4cup Greek yogurt Lunch - 1/2cup chili, 2 saltines Snack - 1/2cup soy protein berry smoothie Dinner - 1/2cup shredded beef, 1/4 rice and black beans, 2 baby tomatoes Dessert - 1 small piece of wedding cake
  20. I went to a beginner belly dancing class tonight and it was SO MUCH FUN! Everyone was friendly and non judgmental. It works the abs, thighs, hips and arms! Definitely recommend you guys try it if you get the chance. As a woman who has been heavy her entire life I've never felt especially feminine or "sexy", but the class made me feel good about myself for the first time in a long time. I wouldn't have had the confidence to even go to a belly dance class pre band so this is a NSV for me. Just wanted to share

Over Weight Since Child Hood... Anyone Else?

I was always a little bit larger and taller than most girls, but didn't become fat til puberty kicked in. From then on the weight kept creeping up. I remember having to wear a swimsuit in gym class in junior high, and how humiliating that was. My dad tried to get me to join every sport under the sun to lose weight but it was embarrassing and didn't last. I was over 200lbs by high school and started trying Weight Watchers and starvation diets. I would lose 50lbs in a few months, gain 60, and so on. I don't really have any memory of ever being average size, much less "thin". It will be interesting to experience life on the other side once I reach my goal.

So good to see you posting again! I was worried! And your breakfast sounds delicious. I would love any recipes you have. Today I had water, skim milk, and apple juice due to getting my fill. Back to foods tomorrow. Exercise - 30mins elliptical and 15mins of squats/lunges/light weights

    So How Honest Were You....

I told my immediate family, about 6 close friends, my personal trainer and my minister. They have all been supportive. As I lose more weight, I'm sure I'll start telling more people. Will cross that bridge when I come to it.

    Ready To Start (Walking).........

Have you considered water aerobics or doing laps in the pool? I hear that is easier on the joints.
