    Thinking About Lapband...

Welcome! I think most of us felt the way you did. I was pretty freaked out about getting the band because I'd never had any surgery, never been under, and had a fear of needles. I have a low pain tolerance. Even up til the last moments before surgery i could not believe I was actually doing it. haha. I promise you the entire process is safe and the recovery is fast. You do get to speak with the surgeon and anesthesiologist (sp?) the day of surgery to ask questions. I was out of surgery in under an hour (average band surgery takes 1-2 hrs) and into recovery. The pain and discomfort sucks the first few days but it is never unbearable. They give you wonderful meds. Make sure to have a friend or family member around you those first couple days to provide support. No regrets with my band. Best decision I ever made.

I am proud of you Jen!! How cool that you have made friends from your WLS group you can work out with. We all need to refocus from time to time Well I think I have finally hit a plateau. I can't seem to get under 218. Gained 1lb last week (despite not eating or exercising ANY differently than I have been). In the past few days I have lost that 1lb but otherwise scale hasn't budged in 2 or 3 weeks. I don't understand. I do go in for a fill next week so maybe they'll put more Fluid in my band... But I am not hungry, or overeating. Do I just need to step up the exercise or eat different foods? Breakfast - 6oz yogurt lunch - 1/2 pita pizza, 1 peach dinner - pita with crunchy Peanut Butter snack - 8oz milk, green tea, Water Exercise - 40 min elliptical, 10 min weights

Thanks Jen! And Oh no... You could make yourself very sick if you overeat. I sometimes remind myself the temporary enjoyment of that food isn't worth it. Your eating today may not have been good, but the important thing is not to dwell on it. Just start fresh tomorrow. You have been doing so well, hang in there. start with exercise routine and hitting your Protein goal. Breakfast - 6oz yogurt lunch - 1/2 pita, tomato sauce, sausage and onion snack - 4oz yogurt dinner - 1 chicken wing, 2 slices of margherita flatbread (we went for happy hour tonight) Snack - 8oz skim milk, Water Exercise - 1 hr mall walking

Today wasn't the greatest. Super stressful day at work, did not get to exercise. NEED to get to the gym tomorrow with no excuses! Also what I thought was a fill appt was actually a dietician appt. So it was nice to touch base with her, and she told me to keep up what i was doing and add more fruits/veggies to my diet. When she weighed me I noticed I was 219.5... when I weighed myself at home a week ago I was 218. I am not sure if I gained or if it was just the scales being different. But i am not happy about it. Breakfast - 6oz yogurt lunch - 4oz chicken chili, 2 oz fruit salad dinner - sm pita with Peanut Butter snack - 5oz yogurt with sliced berries Water, tea

Thanks Jen! Just trying to find my groove. Got in a hardcore work out right after work today so hopefully I will sleep good tonight, lol. Going in for possible fill on Thurs but i doubt I'll need one. Hmm... Shoulder pain is no good. But I did have some stomach pain for a couple days after my fill and felt tightness initially. They say it's a learning curve after every single fill so hopefully you will be back to normal very soon. have you downloaded the iPhone lapband talk app? Nothing wrong w/ those m&ms and froyo in moderation! Breakfast - 6oz mango yogurt lunch - sm wheat pita with Peanut Butter, 2/3 small banana snack - 8oz milk, tea, Water dinner - pita pizza with hot Italian sausage, onions and tomato sauce (no cheese), 3 carrot sticks Snack - 6oz vanilla greek yogurt w/ sliced peach Exercise - 30 min cardio, 20 min weights
  11. So I am currently in my car eating the healthy lunch I packed for myself. I work in a dermatology office and my coworkers are constantly snacking on candy, cookies, cake, pop. Every single day I come in someone has brought in treats. Today they brought in 2 cakes and catering from a Chinese restaurant. My desk is directly facing the kitchen... There is no door and I look into it all day. The food smells were killing me so I just had to get out of there. lol My coworkers know I am banded so I do feel the need to be a good example and not indulge in those things. So far I've done very well but it sucks some days. Anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with it and resist temptations?

    Omg I Did It Again

You need willpower to succeed with the band. The band isn't going to stop you from eating unhealthy food, or even overeating (there is a way to eat "around" the band). Only you can do that. You have to want it and be willing to make sacrifices. Now on a positive note, you can do this!!! Make a list of reasons you want to get healthy. Make that your focus. Do not have temptations in your house. We all slip up but the important thing is not to keep repeating the same mistakes and make it into a habit. Call your doctor or nutritionist and let them know and find out if that will effect your surgery. You may want to consider pushing your surgery back if you don't feel ready yet.

    Post Op And Miserable

Please don't give up yourself. You can do this! It's hard but so worth it. Empty calories vs good calories... you can never go wrong with the basics. meat, fruits, and vegetables. Some healthy carbs (whole wheat) in moderation as well. Since your body cannot consume as much anymore, the food you put into it needs to give you the most nutrients possible. You want to avoid liquid calories and remember not to eat and drink at the same time. Measure your food out if you aren't already. 5 days a week of exercise is what's recommended. Try a Zumba class, dance class, new machine at the gym, or bring a friend to break up the monotony. And it sounds stupid but cute work out clothes and a good playlist are really motivating! Have you found WLS support groups in your area? Worth checking out. Wish you all the best.

    Holy Hell.. Hiccups Hurt!!

Ouch! I had killer hiccups last week that hurt deep in my chest too. They went away on their own after a few minutes. A good warning not to eat too big of bites.

Fear Of Losing Weight And Denial

I relate to so many of your posts. The biggest surprise of the journey so far : being thinner doesn't solve all your issues. It does not automatically make you confident or make your life just fall nicely into place. I still have weeks/days/moments of crippling insecurity, but when people tell me how great I look I am starting to believe it. I recently got a new job and am doing/saying/wearing/trying things I NEVER would have done a year ago when i was hiding behind my 326lb security blanket. It's a daily battle not to slip into old habits, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Had a blast at the party tonight. Inconsistent Band

Wow, crazy .2 made such a difference with your band. I like that so many doctors are going slow with fills though, so that we can adjust to the new way of eating each time. I only have 1cc in my band and am pretty sure I'm in the green zone. That's what my doctor tells me anyway. It took 1 fill. lol. My doctor put in 3ccs at the appt, I drank the Water and it was bubbling like crazy so she took 2ccs out. I am losing consistently, stay full for probably 4 hours (if I eat a quality, Protein heavy meal) and can never eat more than 1 cup. So far so good.

That's awesome!!! Restriction will help so much. Inconsistent Band

I have noticed I am tighter some days than others. I can eat the exact same thing two days in a row... one day I can eat 1 cup, the next day I am struggling to get in 1/2 that. I do find that unhealthier food goes through my band easier though. ironic.

Hey Jen! Beach sounds like a blast. next year you'll be rocking a bikini on the beach! Lol. A gain always sucks but you know what you need to do. One thing at a time.. Whether its counting your Protein, adding in 20 minutes of quick cardio or Water intake. I can relate a little bit cuz I've gone from being unemployed to working 5 days a week and when I get home the last thing I wanna do is cook or exercise lately. I still do it, but it's not easy at all. Breakfast - 5oz strawberry yogurt lunch - 3oz tuna (tossed w/ 1tbsp olive oil mayo) on Arnold's sandwich thin, 2 baby carrots snack - 5oz blueberry yogurt dinner - 3oz grilled chicken breast on 1 small wheat pita, 1 tbsp hummus, tomato and onions, 2 strawberries Snack - hot tea, water, 1 small banana Exercise - 30 min wii free step
