I love fruit too (I have a little with almost every meal). But a fruit only diet isn't going to keep you full very long or meet your nutritional needs. There is very little protein. Why not look up some new recipes that include your favorite fruits in them?

Food Cravings......
daisychains7 replied to Kelligh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Those weeks before my first fill were hell! What got me through was sheer determination. Shortly before my surgery I made a list of all the things I wanted to do after I lost weight, and it was the best motivation ever. I even online "window shopped" for bikinis... Ha! Also, knowing I could make myself physically ill by overeating stopped me in my tracks. You will have your whole life to enjoy food (in small amounts), but now you've got to hit the ground running and be extra strict! I promise it will be worth it. -
Lactose intolerant?
daisychains7 replied to Courtnin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was lactose intolerant even before I had my band. I drink Lactaid brand skim milk, and discovered I have no problem with Greek yogurt. Things may return back to normal for you in a few months. For example -- I had always loved spicy foods but they KILLED my stomach those first few months post op. I can now eat spicy food with no issue. -
Really losing it

Oh boy! You are going through a lot right now, it's no wonder your stress level is through the roof. I'm sorry. It is important to care for your family responsibilities, but you need to care for yourself too. Please slow down. You just had major surgery. Stress only makes the band tighter. please take your prescribed medications and find a ride to see family. Running around all day and not getting enough water/protein can make you dehydrated and seriously ill. This is a risk you don't want to take. -

Do the best you can given the circumstances. I find the winter months to be especially hard, but something is better than nothing. If I don't work out a certain day, I am extra strict about what foods I put into my body. There are some days where I just put on music and dance for a half hour. You could also walk in place while holding 2 or 5lb weights. I like Leslie Sansone's walking DVDs. Don't beat yourself up if you could not get to the gym today, but push extra hard tomorrow to make up for it.

Yay!!! Congratulations on a healthy you. When you feel better about yourself, it radiates from the inside out, and people begin to notice.

I find having at least 1 glass of skim milk, as well as plenty of water and hot tea helps. I also recommend Questbars. You can get them at GNC. They are between 150-200 calories and have 20g protein. Decent tasting and keeps you full a few hours. -
I know exactly how you feel. The closer I get to my goal, the harder it gets for me to lose large amounts of weight at a time. My doctor told me this is normal, and that a goal of 4-8lbs a month is realistic. I am about 15lbs from my goal, yet I can't seem to get out of this 5lb range. It sounds like you are doing everything right. Why not add some variety? Switch up the foods you eat, and try new forms of exercise. Hang in there and remember how far you've come!

I see so many posts like this, and it concerns me that so many surgeons are giving their patients unrealistic expectations for weight loss within the first couple months after surgery. You had surgery only 11 days ago and are still healing from the trauma your body went through. You were pumped full of fluids and medications. You also dropped a ton of weight in pre-op. Your body needs to adjust to it's new normal. I am very concerned that you are eating fish and solid vegetables only 11 days after surgery. My surgeon made it very clear that the first 6 weeks were for healing, not weight loss. In fact, I GAINED 8lbs when I switched to mushies. After that, I avoided my scale those first couple months. Things stabilized after that. Please be patient and remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. Once you heal, learn the new way of eating (chewing thoroughly, lots of Water, small bites, measuring your portions), and get fills, the weight loss will come.

I wanted it, I got it, but it's bittersweet?
daisychains7 replied to BandedBettyBoop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get it. Those big clothes probably made you feel "safe". It was a security blanket. There are things about my old body/life I am still grieving, but it will get better in time. Buying yourself some new clothes to show off your weight loss feels awesome. -
All of these stories... Scared me!!
daisychains7 replied to JhonnieB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The power to succeed (or fail) is in your hands. In rare cases, there are legitimate complications... but the majority of people who do not lose weight with their bands are not eating the right foods, exercising, getting follow up care, or following doctors orders. At the end of the day, the band will not work unless you do. In some ways, life after the band is harder, but I would do it all over again because I feel healthy for the first time in my life. Give yourself more time to think it over. -

People will start asking questions the more weight you lose. I told my immediate family, minister, and about 5 close friends. Funnily enough i find it easiest to tell complete strangers. LOL! I have no hard and fast rule about who I tell, I just go by if I feel comfortable to do so or not. I am proud of my band but do not need any negativity in my life.

I wear tank tops now! I was always too embarrassed to do that when I was heavier. Yeah, I may have little bat wings but I don't care. In the summer I plan to wear shorts, strapless sundresses, and a swimsuit. No more hiding or sweating like a pig.

WHY couldnt i make good choices before?!
daisychains7 replied to titansjim's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
We all ask ourselves the same thing. Some days I get angry that I have to fight this battle, but everyone has their battle in life and I guess weight is mine. Try to let go of the past and embrace your new life. 50lbs is tremendous -- congrats! -
After losing lots of weight, does anyone have issues with their port showing?
daisychains7 replied to Lapbandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can feel my port almost constantly now, but I can't see it yet. -
Hi everyone. I am back in town. I went to London for 9 days to see my family and it was a learning experience. First of all, from day 1 I got negativity from the women in my family telling me I need to "stop eating" because I will "put weight back on". When we went shopping they told me I needed to have Spanx on. And boy did I let my eating and exercise slip. I reverted back to old habits (dessert, fried food, minimal exercise). Felt very little restriction the whole time.. but stopped after 1 cup. I feel horrible I ate all that stuff. But now there is nothing i can do to change it except get back to eating healthy and tons of Water. Goal for this week is 5 days of exercise and to go to WLS support group at the hospital. I have learned on long plane rides I need to order the "special diet" meals the airlines offer. THe regular meals are very unhealthy. And at this point I do not think I can visit unhealthy or toxic family members for so long. The longer I am on vacation the harder it is to stay on track. funny how the band changes everything, isn't it? @whymomwhy - Losing your job is such a blow emotionally. You must feel shocked and angry. I am so sorry. I find after my surgery and without my food "crutch" things hit me harder emotionally.. maybe you've felt the same. You have been committed to getting healthy and that has to be priority even through difficult times. I am proud of how far you've come and do not let anything or anyone derail that.

Breakfast - 1/2 flax pita, 1tsbp Peanut Butter, 1/2 banana lunch - 1/2 turkey, tomato and banana pepper "sandwich" on lettuce wrap snack - 1 Protein bar dinner - 3.5oz chicken breast, 3oz baby corn Dessert - 5oz vanilla yogurt, 2tbsp berries Liquids - 3 cups of tea, Water, 8oz skim milk Exercise - 30 min elliptical The lettuce wrap sandwich was yummy but not very filling so I had a couple Snacks today (yogurt, bar, milk) to curb that hunger.
