Dr Doesn't Check For Leaks Per Se.....how Will I Know If I''m Leak-Free?
monalisa1010 replied to vsgm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There must be a misunderstanding - Your Doctor didnt check for leaks while you were on the operating table or prior to your discharge from the hospital ????? If so, you demand one ! Possibly with another Doctor. I'm sorry for being abrupt about this but it's COMPLETELY unheard of that this was not provided. Why the low grade temp ? Did they explain signs of a leak to you - So you'll know what to pay attention to ? I'm still trying to understand why you didnt get a leak test - It's similar to saying you had vertical sleeve surgery without anesthesia. Really - thats how much sense that makes. -

Getting Sleeved On The 16Th! A Few Questions For Those Who Have Been Already...:)
monalisa1010 replied to alexandra noelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved Jan 24th at 7 AM. I also had hernia repair at the time of my surgery. I woke up with very very little pain. It's more like muscle soreness from doing too many sit ups. I didnt take pain meds until bedtime (because I wanted to be able to sleep, not so much because of the pain). I was more concerned with Nausea & not pain ( I had never had any type of surgery - NOTHING ) I had no nausea at all - still havent. I am still on full liquids and pudding, yogurt. cheese, very soft foods. Your belly button will probally be sore - Everyone is different, but I really cant imagine a large amount of pain - but I know it's possible. Walk as soon as your allowed, to get rid of gas. The gas pressure is what I really dealt with for a few days. Also bring a small travel pillow with you for the drive home, put the pillow against your stomach then put on your seatbelt. This helps ALOT, bring that pillow with you everytime your in the car. Dont wear any pants that button or zip, only elastic waist. Getting in and out of the bed is a slight struggle. Prop up about 3-4 pillows againts your headboard - getting out of your bed from a upright position is alot less painfull than from a laying down position. If your bed/mattress is high up - have a small step stool next to your bed to help getting in and out. Also, sleep with as many pillows as you can to keep your head in the upright position in order to not have acid reflux - This helps me alot. Feel free to ask any other questions ! I promise this surgery will be alot easier than you expect (if I had to - I'd do it again) Follow all of the rules, dont skip ahead on your diet & dont lift anything heavy , you never want to risk a leak !!! -

Take your spoon in the jello cup & swirl it all around to break it up, kinda make it "blended" -but it does help go down really easy, also I know it sounds yucky but swish the jello around in your mouth before you swallow. Makes this treat alot more enjoyable

5 Days Post Opp And All Of A Sudden Hungry
monalisa1010 replied to Njd1230's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You need to get Isopure protein water, you can get it at GNC. 5$ per bottle, its a 20 oz bottle with 40 grms of protein. the protein in it fills u up - promise. Only get the red or purple flavors the rest are awful. Its really not bad compared to the others. If u find it too strong cut it in half with powerade zero. If u get red isopure - cut it with red powerade, and so on for all the colors&flavors. also carry that darn bottle everywhere u go ! HYDRATE, HYDRATE !! You dont want to end up back in the hospital dry heaving . Also , Target has powerade zero on sale for .88 right now - I suggest you stock up. I had no clue how fast I would go thru cases of 16 oz water bottles & powerade -

Could I Possibly Ever Weigh 130Lbs ?
monalisa1010 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Jan 24th - started at 200 and as of today, I'm at 190 !!! The problem I'm having is - I cant imagine ever weighing my goal weight of 130 lbs. Did everyone else feel like this ? Is the weight loss & our personal determination really possible to shed that much weight ? It's amazing to me - I just cant picture myself thin ! Can any of you give me a monthly or weekly average of weight loss (yes, I understand we are all different - just curious ) Thanks !!!!! -
I know that I will get a few comments about this question but........ I was sleeved on Jan 24th & I am still on my liquid & full liquids diet. I am realllllyyy looking for some type of flavor & I know I could handle the consistiancy of ice cream. Just wondering If any of you tried that ? Does the sugar or milk make you sick ? Please let me know. Thanks !

Sleeved On Jan 24Th. - Gained Weight
monalisa1010 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Everyone, This is my first post on vertical sleeve talk. I was sleeved at 8 AM on Tues Jan 24th 2012. My starting weight 3 days before surg was 198 LBS- got on the scale this AM & weigh 204 !!!!! I do understand that could be air/gas, fluids from all of the IV's. But WOW - was shocked to see that number. All I have had in my body since Jan 22 at midnight was : water, protein isopure water, chicken broth, ice chips, and sugar free popcicles. I should add that I seem to be very lucky, because I can consume my min of 40 OZ of water & jello since surg without any problems. Anybadvice would really help as an explanation for the weight gain. Thanks ! -

Help! What Can I Have On My Post-Op Clear Liquid Diet?
monalisa1010 replied to AllForMy4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get isopure liquid, multiple flavors @ GNC. Its a 20oz bottle, with 40 grams of protein. The protein will keep you strong. The taste is pretty good , but if you dont like it - mix it with powerade fruit punch or strawberry. Forgot to mention that isopure is around 4.99 per bottle ! Keep drinking. I was sleeved on jan 24thn& carry a large bottle with me all day filled with isopure & powerade - i can drink approx 45 oz a day, keep inmind it takes me allllll day -
Jan -24th !!!! 7AM - Home, recovering well !

I have no trouble waking around. We seem to be the lucky ones - being able to get so much fluid in this early on. Whats on your recent menu ? Im trying to get some flsvor - somewhere ! Any suggestions would help. Feel free to tell me your story. It looks like i'll be in his bed till monday morning.
