  1. Hi sleevers. Were any of you required to stop your BCPs before having surgery. I'm 40 years old and am on the continuous pill which presents me from getting my period (sorry guys). I love not getting my period, but I am worried about the risk of blood clots from taking the pill, and with surgery I am even more concerned. Any thoughts on staying on versus stopping the pill before surgery? Thanks, Shan
  2. Hi everyone! My nut told me I can use any "over the counter" diet shake for my pre-op diet. I was surprised by this because I thought I would be on medifast (optifast?), the stuff sold by doctors. Does anyone have a recommendation for shakes during the pre-op liquid diet. Slimfast seems to "carby." Thanks for any suggestions. Shan
  3. Ok, I know this is a weird question, but I am trying to PREPARE myself for how I will feel in the months after surgery. I did the HCG diet a few years ago. I know, I know, I lost weight and gained it all back. However, while I was on the diet, I felt little if any real hunger. Any hunger I had was head hunger, and I dealt with it. I was amazed with myself. It is the only "diet" I have ever done where my hunger was controlled, and it was the lowest calorie diet i have ever done. Is this how it feels after being sleeved--that is, low levels of "real" hunger but with some head hunger? I hope I am making sense... My sleeve will be a "tool" for me, and I assume the tool works because it is restrictive and eliminates great hunger. I "think" if I can get the real hunger tamed, the head hunger will be easier for me to control, as it was for me on the HCG diet.
  4. Hi sleevers. I am in the process of waiting for the Dept of Veterans Affairs to approve my surgery. In the meantime (and due to excessive worry), I am thinking about what is going to happen if they don't approve it for some reason. I don't want to go to Mexico (not bashing it, just not for me). Has anyone self paid in the US? How much did you pay, and can you send me your surgeon's name? I meet the minimum quals of 35 BMI and hypertension. Thanks very much. tdskkenn

    Insides Feel Weird

I am not sleeved yet, but I remember feeling this for months after my c-section. It was almost like a baby kicking-lol. But my doc said it was everything "settling down" after being moved around.
  6. Hi there. I am a few months out before having surgery scheduled. In my WLS program, I am required to lose 12 lbs to "prove" to them I can lose weight. I don't know why, but this enraged me. I felt humiliated and degraded. Please note that i am not referencing the pre-op liquid diet--that is for safety issues. I do understand that post-op I will be adjusting to a whole new way of life, but come on, I need my tool! I have gained and lost the same amount of weight so many times in my life. I'm a pro. I've never gotten to "goal" but I can lose weight. I am less angry now and have been successful in losing that small amount of weight, but don't treat me like a moron, Mr. Surgeon! Thanks for letting me vent (obviously still a little anger lingering...) LOL. Shan
  7. Hi everyone. I will be having my psych and cardio tests next month and then surgery will be scheduled! I started this process with a BMI of 35 (5'8 and 235) and high blood pressure. It makes me grin to hear that 35 is "low"--I'm pretty big. I know this might sound crazy, but I am worried about losing too much weight. Has this happened to anyone out there? If so, did it have anything to do with a lower starting BMI? My goal weight is 160, which would be a loss of about 70 lbs. Thanks for any insight you can offer. Shan
  8. Hi there. I will be having the sleeve in April 2012. I am very excited and appreciative of all I have learned on this forum. Anyone out there ever have liposuction? I had it in 2002 when I was just "overweight." It was great and I don't regret having it. But since then I have steadily gained 50lbs and now have intra-abdominal fat. I assume this is because there was no where else to gain the weight because the "outer" fat in my abdominal and flank areas had been removed. Does previous liposuction affect the sleeve surgery? And what about excess intra-abdominal fat? Thanks for any advice/thoughts you can offer. I won't be seeing my surgeon until after the new year. TDSKKENN
