How was your experience at Good Sam? I go in on August 1st...Kinda nervous right now.

Hi Kate, I'm getting Sleeved at Good Samaritan in San Jose and my Doc is Dr. Richard Nguyen. I live in SF but decided to get sleeved in the south bay because of insurance coverage. I'm scheduled for August 1st, im currently trying to find a support group here in SF.

I have had to sit with some jitters because my date was pushed back from my original July date, but it's getting done that's all that counts. I'm getting it done at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose,CA and my surgeon is Dr. Richard Nguyen from Advance Surgical Associates, it's a family proctice and all 3 brothers are surgeons. good luck on your August 27th date, it will be here as soon as u know it.

YAY...Im on August 1st....

My favorites have been Syntrax Nectar strawberry mousse, I tried the kiwi strawberry and twisted cherry nectar but didn't like them as much. I also use the Unjury chicked soup it tastes great and has 20 g of protein, it actually gets me full and I'm 498. First 3 days of the liquid diet was rough for me but once I got past the carb and sugar withdrawals I was fine. Another good thing to do is make some broths, chicken or beef. It taste much better and you can control the amount of salt, I just let it simmer for hours strain it and let it cool to skim off the fat on top ( if any, I used lean cuts or trimmed ) plus you can always freeze anything leftover for post-op.

Yup, I'm August 1st....the liquid diet sucks but it works...it's so exciting, I fin myself up at night on here just reading through threads to try to relax my nerves.

So my date got changed to the following week August 1st, the surgeon is going on vacation. This sucks, I fell off my diet for a day got kinda pissed and ate some solids but I just ordered so pre-op food and I'm back on my liquid diet.

Thank you, it took for my son to be born for me to finally love myself enough to get help.. Women are the glue that keep us Men together, i know this first had raised by Women and having only 1 boy cousin and 12 girl cousin. Thank goodness I was blessed with a boy( Just Kidding) In the begining it was hard getting my wife on board she was so agains the surgery and it had me torn, the first consultation was a disaster and I finally got so frustrated I had to find another way to get through to her. Unfortunatly it took for me to remind her of her father that died when she was 16 to get her to realize the seriousness of my weight. He too was over weight and diet due to diabeties. i don't want to leave my wife and son to fend for themselves. i didnt grow up with a father and I was dealing the same fate to my son because of my weight....But that will soon be over...Thanks for the support I think im finally in the clear, im not as moody and my headaches are gone. it was alittle scary there for a minute because I was getiing lightheaded when driving. Wow way to go nate, for me it's stories like this that keep me motivated because you are my size and know what it feeld like to be in my shoes. I'm glad we are all here to support each other. I'm down a total of 29 lbs as of this morning and want to lose another 30 before my surgery. How was your recovery from surgery? Yup we sure do need to stick together. Im in the same boat as you as far as the sleep I hardley ever get a good night sleep. I cant use my Bi-pap machine because im a belly sleeper and I rip off my mask. Now its to the point where my wife sleeps in my sons room on another mattress because I toss and turn all night. But she is sticking it out and soon all those health problems will be gone. Thanks Jazzy Jay I cant wait to see the results in a years time, Thank you... Thanks Chitowngirl, I am on my full liquid diet now, the first 4 days were draining and scary at the same time. No real food and watching my 7 month old 9 hours a day while the wife was at work was a true challenge. My son is just learning to crawl...But what I do is think about my birthday a couple of weeks ago when I went to famous Daves to have "THE LAST MEAL" and I over ate and amost got myself sick in the parking lot. That reminded me why im doing this and how badd i feel when I abuse my body by over eating..

I just got scared reading this thread. I have to do a 6 week liquid diet and I'm on day one and already kinda ate some solids, chopped up chicken in my broth. So my surgery date is July 25th and I'm currently 516 lbs. So my doc wants me to do a long diet to really shrink and to make sure I'm under 500 for the surgery day (hospital policy) I haven't gone in to talk to my NUT because she is a two hour drive away but I really need to get a better understanding of what is considered part of the liquid diet. Good luck to everyone on their diets and remember the new you is worth some sweat and tears now..

Hang in there Beanzilla, I tottaly feel your pain about not being able to get around and having to worry about fitting in chairs. Whne My family looks at me they think im happy but a photo will show the pain I hold in. I already get looks because of all my tattoos but it's a different look when it has to do with your weight. I was always around 350 for about 14 years and then I got injured and in two years I managed to get to 550. This is the first time I really have seen guys with High BMI's like myself. I started at 539 and im down to 515. My surgeon here in the Bay area said I need to get under 500 because of hospital policy or he would not be able to do surgery on me.
