My Experience With Dr. Garcia And Associates
2bsmallagain posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I want to start by saying my experience was a roller coaster of emotion for me. My husband and I drove to San Diego and parked our car at the border station parking (very nice place with 24 hr surveillance and cheap). I had all this time to starve and watch my husband eat as well as see all the billboards with food on them. I had to remind myself this was not going to keep me from eating just slow down the amount to a healthy level. Samual Sr. (he is very nice) picked us up and took us to the Marriott (which is amazing I might add). He checked us in and we had a great night sleep before the next day surgery. All the surgery girls met in the lobby that morning about 9:30 to catch a ride in the hotel van to the Mi Doctor Hospital. The night before surgery we were visited by our coordinators (2 of them) in our room to make sure we did not need anything. They were very attentive and nice to us. At the hospital we got all of our blood work done (I am a hard stick and Hannah got it on the first try). We were visited by 4 doctors including Dr. Garcia, Dr. Cabrerra which is the anesthesiologist, an internal medicine doctor (who had the sleeve 2 years ago) and another MD that works for Dr. Garcia. The history taken was very thorough and we waited for our blood work to process before we were to proceed with the surgery. THEN I HAD THE SURGERY!!!!! After surgery I felt no pain at the incision sight just sore throat and gas pain in my shoulder. If you keep walking the gas will subside and it gets much better. Were kept our IV for 2 1/2 days and had two leak tests after surgery to make sure we were good to drink some gatorade. We also received a care package before surgery with chap stick, ear plugs, and mouth swabs for dry mouth. The coordinators were there onsight for anything we needed. Their office is on the 2nd floor of the hospital. I love all these doctors I saw all four everyday of my stay. We were released on Wednesday to our hotel with another bag of goodies like antacid, pain meds, antibiotics, DVD of our leak test, and a folder with everything we need to know about our diet along with phone numbers and emails of the doctors and coordinators. MY STAY WAS AMAZING! I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED AS WELL AS I WAS THERE! Congratulations to everyone that goes there because you made the best choice possible!! Any questions I will answer the best I can. -

Safety In Tijuana
2bsmallagain replied to scubadottie's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I just came from there and it is perfectly safe. I am sure there are bad parts just like anywhere in the states and you just stay away from those areas. You can ask the staff at the Marriott where the good places are to go and have them send for your cabs so you do not get over charged for a trip. I did not have any problems. -

No. I had my surgery on Monday. I did not leave the hospital until mid day on Wednesday. You stay in the hotel for two more nights and if you need them you have contact info. They also send you home with all the info you need to take care of your incisions and contact info for questions. They send you home with bandages for your incisions also. -

Yes I had a drain tube. I think it helps with the swelling and it is painless to remove. -
Wish I Would Have Never Done This!
2bsmallagain replied to tyvette04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 days post op and feel tired also. You have to consider your not getting proper nutrition right now. Drink some gatorade or Powerade to get some electrolytes in your system. When you start drinking Protein you will feel better and your energy level will go up. Hang in there and when the weight is falling off right before your eyes you will be so thankful you had the surgery. Everything worth doing cannot be easy. Hormones also play into how your feeling too. Don't get discouraged. -

Thanks everyone! I am sitting in my hospital room at Mi Doctor Hospital. It is very nice and everyone is very nice and attentive. They are very thorough in getting your history. I am very pleased so far. I feel like I am being treated like a celebrity. The bed in the Marriott is absolute heaven. I slept so good last night. I will be seeing the doctors shortly and then my surgery will be here before I know it. I was so nervous before but now I am just ready! Thank you for all your prayers and I will be speaking with you all soon. -
I would fight this because it is the physicians office responsibility to send info to the insurance company and make sure they are getting paid which sounds like what they did. The insurance company should know what they will pay for and if they paid then it is their error. That is crazy. I would find the approval letter like traceyc said. That will be your key to winning this battle. The letter the doctor sent to the insurance also will state the procedure and the approval letter should also. Good luck.

How Do U Avoid Hair Loss?
2bsmallagain replied to ooffa511's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to keep protein levels up 70 or more grams a day, keep iron and zinc levels up and you can use a shampoo called Nioxin. Also I have been taking biotin. My hair is thin also and I do not want to lose more. -
Almost Time! Surgery On May 7Th. Second Thoughts......
2bsmallagain replied to roxy.grissom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have my surgery on Monday in Mexico. I have had a real hard time with the diet and have binged a little. The binging has kept me from keeping any real weigh off with this diet. I am trying and I will be faithful on the liquid diet. I am nervous too but this is what we need and we will make it happen. I have been starving too and emotional. My crutch is gone.
