The caffeine is suppose to dehydrate you. I was told and I believe I read it also that the coffee is suppose to irritate your new stomach during the healing process. It has something in it that can irritate the stomach much like fruit acid can. I am sure after you are totally healed coffe would be ok. I am not sure how long that process actually takes though. I would have to find my paper work from Dr. Garcia that says when you can start eating raw fruit but I would think you could drink your coffee about the same time. That is my best guess lol.

Any One Have Trouble With The No Drinking With Food?
2bsmallagain replied to Aug2ndsleever's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
It does take some adjusting.... ok a lot of adjusting. I am one who always drank a lot with my meals but I also ate a lot more at one time. I have forgotten and reached for my glass and taken a drink and it is not a pleasant experience. You will not want to do it after once or twice messing up. You are eating so little in one meal that you will not need to wash your food down. It just takes some practice and the best thing to do is not even have a drink near you while your eating. You will get used to it and now I stop drinking when I get hungry and wait for about 30-45 minutes then eat. After you eat you feel full so you know you cannot fit anything else in. At first it seemed like an eternity before I could drink but now its second nature. The whole thing is a process and a learning experience. -
How Did You Explane Surgery To Your Kids?
2bsmallagain replied to ashkaymom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think your right with a 6 year old. They are not going to notice as much what your NOT eating. A 14 year old especially a girl will notice. The thing is your 14 year old will see you are taking a healthy approach with a medical team to guide you instead of doing things that are not safe. -
How Did You Explane Surgery To Your Kids?
2bsmallagain replied to ashkaymom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel like your 14 year old is old enough to understand it and deal with it in a healthy way. I would just explain that you were unable to maintain a healthy weight on your own and in order to be a better healthier parent this procedure will help with that. You could follow up that nothing will change except you will be healthier more energetic and yes skinnier. You need to tell them because your 14 year old will notice you are not eating very much and your habits have changed. Being honest is the best policy. I agree with Tif 2.0 it is their journey too. Keeping it in the family is what we decided to do also. It is really no one's business and so many people are judgemental. It will all be fine and your 14 year old may be your best ally and help keep you in check lol. -
Introduction Decided To Get Sleeved Instead Of Banded
2bsmallagain replied to minniemouse67's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello! I am also a 40 year old mother of a 20 year old daughter, 1 year old cat, 2 year old English mastiff and 7 month old English bulldog. Oh and I forgot the husband lol. I also was planning on the band but after doing the research about the complications and the struggles with it decided on the sleeve. Also there are too many people doing a revision and I do not want to go through this more than once. Congratulations on your decision! -
I'm Sleeved! Just Home From Hospital.
2bsmallagain replied to SophieJaneB's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I guess I was lucky in the pain department. I felt no pain at all and was walking the halls 30 minutes after I came back to my room. I felt no nauseau at all either. You are definitely right about the frequent bathroom trips lol it seems neverending. I have had a c-section also and I think they are pretty comparable as far as mobility although I felt more pain with the c-section. I also think you have a great attitude. Everyone's experience is different and some people will feel like they are dying and some will put a brave face on and get through it like you. Congratulations on your surgery and best of luck with your journey! -
Baby Stomachs And The Sleeve
2bsmallagain replied to msvickee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well said! -
Heat works well for that incision. It will take the longest to heal because of its size and what it was used for so it has the most trauma. It can be holding some fluid retention which will cause you some pain. The heat will help remove that. If it does drain make sure it is not infected fluid. It will pass with time but it will take a lot longer than the rest of the incisions.

Which Dr. Do You Recommend?
2bsmallagain replied to Jesser's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I agree with cissiesue Dr. Kelly is a good surgeon. He was one of my choices also. I used Dr. Garcia and was totally happy with him. Either one would be a great choice. It is a personal preference and which ever one you choose it has to be who you feel at peace with. I felt good about both and am sure I would have had the same results with either one I chose. Good luck and you will be in good hands with whatever choice you make. -
Eat More To Lose? (I Must Be Dreaming)
2bsmallagain replied to Ready?Going..'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree with not getting into a grazing habit. I feel it can cause possible weight gain in the future during the maintenance period. Having a schedule is key from what my doctor told me. -

I am not sure about the grazing. I would love to hear responses from some of the veterans on this question. -
Considering Mexico...
2bsmallagain replied to Jesser's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I went and it was a great experience. I used Dr. Garcia and would not change a thing. I was so pleased with the service, price and care I received. It is not what everyone makes it out to be. There are plenty of reputable surgeons and minimal complications because they perform more surgeries than US doctors. Tell your friends and families you are going to research your decison thoroughly and will make an informed and safe decision that is best for you. -
Emailed Dr. Garcia/no Response
2bsmallagain replied to hollirrose's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I wore my clothes. You can wear your hospital gown some did but I chose to wear my shorts and a T-shirt. No you do not need any converters. The Marriott is great! The bed is amazing and you have so many pillows it is perfect. -
Emailed Dr. Garcia/no Response
2bsmallagain replied to hollirrose's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I also believe it is too quick to put it in his reviews. He is very busy. He teaches everyday plus does surgeries. The doctors in the US do not answer their own emails either. (I work for one) The nurses are the ones that go through the emails and answer questions. I would contact the coordinator so she can ask him what you need to know. I think it is a bit hasty to put a negative review about not responding quick enough to an email. -
Tingling And Numbness In Hand
2bsmallagain replied to ctaylor86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Getting protein in is hard for me too. I am drinking a lot of water because I have been outside working so much in the heat and am afraid to dehydrate. I need to work on that. -
Tingling And Numbness In Hand
2bsmallagain replied to ctaylor86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get tingling and numbing in my legs since surgery. It seems to happen if I have not eaten enough or am dehydrated. When I drink a lot that day it does not seem to happen. -
Taste Buds Completely Changed After Surgery!
2bsmallagain replied to ready4change79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally normal. Your taste buds will always be a little different but you will be able to tolerate foods better later on. There are some things that I liked before surgery but can't even stand the smell after. I feel my sense of smell is also stronger and different. Pretty much everything changed but I feel for the better. -
I am 8 weeks also. Sometimes I feel like I could eat the whole house but other days I am not hungry at all. I think it has to do with if I take my antacid first thing in the morning. Also if you are burning more calories your hunger will increase because your body is craving more. I also felt like I stretched my pouch not because of bad choices but because I felt like I ate a lot. I have found that sometimes I can eat more than other times and depending on the food you are eating. Some foods go down smoother. My suggestion is to change your choices and eat right. Take your antacids it does help with the weird feeling of hunger. The hunger feeling does not last everyday for me at all but maybe once a week.

Does this man know you are having the surgery? If not I would not tell him simply because when he sees you losing weight he will make light of the situation by making "jokes" about that too. This surgery is hard enough without negativity from so called friends. I agrees with Southern Oregon he is no friend at all. He is an A@#. You need positive people to help you with what you are going to go through not negative idiots. I wish you all the luck and you need to regroup and stay away from him so you can stay positive for the journey ahead of you.

Plication/sleeve Not The Same?
2bsmallagain replied to ren0318's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are high risks for infection with the plication according to the surgeons. The stomach in folded over and sutured to make it small. Food particles can get into the folds and cause infection. -
Hair loss is going to happen but at the same time your hair is also getting new growth. You will not lose it forever. Your body will adjust and your hair will replenish itself. Keeping your protein up and taking vitamins will help it to grow back quicker. You will not be skinny and bald lol. I was worried about the same thing because I do not have real thick hair anyway.

Did You Have A Leak?
2bsmallagain replied to SylviaMom's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
No leaks but if I had one it would have been treated there. They won't release you until you have passed both leak tests. -
