    April Bandsters!

Heard a quote on tv yesterday that stuck with me...had to share! "YOU are your only problem and YOU are your only solution!" Kind of fitting I thought! So when we get depressed and down... realize the problem, gather up your strength and bootstraps and realize you are your own solution!!!! Nothing else!!!
  2. My dr was "I have patients who succeed and fail". She was kinda like yeah it's out there...want some metformin? So I went to the seminar, found out I needed a letter so I called the office and asked for one, told them this is what I am doing and need a letter stating there is not a medical reason why I should not have it done. Looking back and after talking to the surgeon about how the lapband is a PERSONaL tool. in that office when I brought it up I should have said about the other people...but I am asking for ME!!! Would you recommend it for ME? Is there a medical reason you would not recommend it for ME???? They are not lap band drs so it is only their opinion and interpretation of the compiled data...they only need to give input on how it will affect YOU and relate to YOUR other health issues!

    April Bandsters!

My mom had hers done in Mexico...great doctor, great service, beautiful facility etc...everything was going good til it slipped. Then US doctors refused to work on it. Different band they put in and liability reasons. HAD to have it removed as she was sooo sick! In hospital etc...took it out, it was stamped "sample not for use." Not telling you not to get banded, I will be banded in April...just know the Mexican one can save a couple $ but long term it can be devastating.

    Cancelling Surgery?

My mom had a terrible experience. Hers slipped, but in my journey I am able to see what she did wrong! First off she went to Mexico. Probably had a sample implanted. Go talk to your surgeons coordinator about the things this gal brought up. See if there are ways to avoid those pitfalls. Everybody has a different outlook and different experience just like in childbirth. What is right for you is right for you. Write your pros and cons list. Then talk to the specialists not the gossips. Be informed not impressioned by others. Make up your own mind. Because one bad story weighs no more than another persons good story! What is YOUR story!

    I'm Scared...

Go to the general lap band tab then read the "not measurable results" forum. I love it! Reasons why we all want it! Dig deep and post yours! Can anyone say group therapy!!!! It is wonderful!

    Banded At 6Cc's

Remember...Soup is a liquid it will just go through your band. Not supposed to have liquids with meals as it will flush food out of your lapband pouch. Most soups are full of high calories too.

Non Measurable Results From Lap Band

Love it all! I want to wear a skirt without having my inner thighs rub together and chaff. I want to never ever again want to wear mens clothing, or jackets because they fit better! I want to be able to roll over in bed without propping myself and turning with my arms. I want to be on top! I want to wear heels and be able to walk the next day without back pain! I want to make eye contact with strangers and not have their eyes drop to my tummy. I want to wear tank tops I want to be able to shave my legs...all of them clear up to where they start without having to strain to see what I am doing perkin over around and through my fat! I want to eat to live not live to eat. I want to be able to wear a thong or go comando and not think people who might notice are saying ewe...or have to dig it out later! I want to ride a bike. I want to be able to do yard work without pain. I want to live.

Need Encouragement From People That Understand

Don't forget as you lose weight your stomach gets smaller too so if the band is not restricting it isn't working! Great job on the 73 though! Go look at your before picture to help you remember your journey and appreciate your accomplishment!

How Is This Supposed To Feel??

Here is the thing...Post surgery prefill is all about healing. You are likely to gain weight. It's ok! But before your appointment log everything you eat so the doctor can know and gauge what you are eating and can fill you accordingly. If you lie and say I am eating small meals...he will only give you a small fill but if you are actually eating large meals and tell him the truth he is more likely to give you more of a fill because you need more restriction. Does that make sense?
  14. I think one thing we all do not do is make time for ourselves. One of the reasons a lot of us are overweight. We put our energies into our kids and our husbands needs etc. We need to take the time to plan our meals, to sit and eat our meals, not running on the go. Time for us! It seems selfish, but I have come to realize it is necessary. Necessary for us to do otherwise we will not be happy, will not succeed in our personal goal and will shorten our own lives because we did not take the time. There are only so many hours in the day, yes...I know this all to well. My husband is self employed, we have 3 kids, 17 acres of land and farm to manage on top of it all. I am the worst...my needs come last. But getting banded is step one if reclaiming ME! Take the time!

How Is This Supposed To Feel??

And she sId it is normal to gain weight post surgery before your first fill because liquids can have high calorie contents. That your focus is healing in that six weeks not weight loss.

How Is This Supposed To Feel??

I had my Pre surgical appt yesterday and they said your first bites should go straight to your stomach but your sense of fullness will be higher up in the chest. Just a little pressure there. If you eat too much then it will feel worse. She said to eat and when you feel that sensation to stop and wait. If it doesn't go away in ten minutes you are done. If it goes away after a few minutes take one bite and wait some more. Eating should take 20 minutes.

    Plus Size No More!

Hey, I am here in Boise Idaho and one of the support groups here does a monthly clothing exchange just for banders. They have it at the hospital and I am sure any hospital would be encouraged to have post surgery people meeting in their facility! Might be something to start in your own area. Great way to get rid if your clothes that might be a smaller size for someone else too! Trade recipes tips etc...!

    Under The Gown Jitters!

Maybe ask about wearing a sports bra...it probably has to do with the anesthesiologist. I Imagine they will need to put those monitoring pads on your collar bone chest area to monitor vitals....???

    April Surgery Date!

My preop diet is to lose 5% in 90 days or 10% if I don't do 5 in 90. I just had a weigh in ...down 3...amazingly...and have 5 to go! Asked the coordinator about preop diet...she said I am on it. I am doing a protein shake in am then 2 or 3 times a day I can have salad, chicken or fish and cottage cheese as much as I want but only as much as I can eat in 20 minutes. Set a timer then once it goes off we are done! 60 oz of water too.
  20. Dr told me to just be sure to be bmi of 35 at initial weigh in.
  21. I feel the same...self payor...have to come up with 13k or so...and I'm afraid they will tell me no too! How is that possible? My hubbu says it's elective surgery why wouldn't they!?! Am I crazy ?!?!? Lol

    Introductions? Yes Please

Hi, I am Sue, turning 37 on the 29th, mother of three with youngest in K and oldest in 7th grade. I was happy to find a group who are at the lap band stage I am. I have everything turned in, just trying to still lose my before surgery required weight. I have 8 pounds to go...so I am hoping for a first part of April surgery date. I attended two different surgeon seminars and am still back on forth on it some days. I am just scared it will, hurt, I will have complications, or I don't even know! Sounds silly but not silly at the same time! I am a self payor and hate the thought of spending 13k and having thrown it away! Or having complications and having to dig my way out of THAT! My mother had a Mexican lap band that slipped, but after doing my research I can tell you exactly why!!! My sister had banding done and did great but eventually gained a lot of it back. So scared there too. My husband is supportive as he knows how much losing the weight means to me and how much pain I am in. I have a bad disc but not a surgical candidate for that...so I guess the idea is maybe getting the weight off will also be a great way to help with that pain too! Tired of not being able to do daily tasks without pain. Tired of walking into a store and having people look at my belly!!! My other fear is that I love food. I love eating out and I love to cook. So if I can't eat...will life stink? But that is why I am here right?! I have those issues to deal with internally...which I think I can overcome, if I know the medical side of the lapband will be without problems.... I am rambling, meant to just introduce myself, but I guess with myself comes a lot of questions and fears and things that would be great to chat about if anyone else is feeling similar or have figured out any of these answers!!! Hoping for the best, for all of us, S
