How do your other doctors feel about you tting the lapband?
feb27bandwoman replied to clg61753's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My PCP initially was sceptical as he only had one other patient who had a lap band and they did not do well. But he was supportive as I was going through the pre-op preparation. I just went to see him after a year and he was genuinely happy, as was the office staff. When he asked me whether I was taking the BP and cholesterol lowering meds, I said no and he smiled big and congratulated me. My BP and cholesterol are normal!!!! It was a wonderful visit. When I asked when to come back , he loudly said, "next year"!!!! -

Maddysgram and CHEZnoel..... When I read that your starving children came from India....... I seriously thought that perhaps you both had adopted children from India!!! Such an image!! I really must wake up !!!thank you for the giggle. Jean- great article, great story.I always enjoy your thoughts on this struggle that we share. I don't recall being a member of the CLC, but I did raise my children to eat only what they santed. No restrictions, just offering balance and good fresh foods. They have grown into young adults with few weight issues. -
I am struggling to stay away from the Dunkin Donuts frozen coffee coolatas!!! Today, I am experimenting with making my own version!!!!

QUESTION (Has anybody feel like they fell thier weight loss)?
feb27bandwoman replied to lparedes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with Sharpie.... The aftercare is very important. The doctor is part of your team. Plus the nutritionist, psychologist, support group(s), books, articles...etcetera.Get to the doctor and get back on track.Goid luck. -
PISSED nothing but sliders
feb27bandwoman replied to BriannasBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Drinking liquids when eating solids can turn your solids into a "slurry"(thank you, Jean McMillan!) Then that slurry passes through your little pouch stomach and into your larger lower stomach. The food doesn't stay in the pouch long enough and you feel hungry faster. -
SLIPPED BAND!!!
feb27bandwoman replied to JohannaMae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a slip 6 weeks ago.Similar story.Reflux that wasn't getting better.Went to surgeon. He removed all fluid from the band.X-ray showed the slip. Had surgery to re-position the band and repair a hernia. Then began anew. It seems now to be a blip in my progress. -

When Your Bandwagon Stalls
feb27bandwoman replied to Jean McMillan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I also call Bandwagon, Jean's book, my bible. I move it from room to room and have a whole "deck of cards" of quotes from the book that I review when on my exercise bike or treadmill. -
Love what you said LapBandAnna,(also love the name!)Baby steps. We can be too hard on ourselves. Right now, this week, I will break away from the tempting frozen coffee drinks that are so popular now! I do not really need that dunkin donuts frozen drink!do I?

My first thought is to see your surgeon, nutritionist and maybe the psychologist. Go back to the beginning and catch that runaway train before it gets too far out of control.

When Your Bandwagon Stalls
feb27bandwoman replied to Jean McMillan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Fantastic as usual, Jean! I have been at/on a plateau for 3 weeks.Very frustrating. The checklist helped me see the reasons in black and white. I especially can see poor sleep, or in my case, not enough sleep, as a factor in my personal plateau. Thank you!!! -
After getting Lapband can any of you briefly describe what you eat in a day??
feb27bandwoman replied to betchaican's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am vegan, so no meat, fish, eggs, dairy.Breakfast:hot herbal tea or decaf with soy milk. Oatmeal made with soymilk or Tofu scramble Lunch:tofu or tempeh with lots of veggies or a hearty homemade vegetable soup Or brown rice and beans with some veggies Or hummus on Ezekial bread with roasted red peppers and grilled vidalia onions. Dinner: roasted or grilled portobello mushrooms on a whole grain roll with mustard. Stir fry tempeh with brown rice and lots of colorful veggies. Dessert: seasonal fresh fruit salad. -
I am keeping only one piece of clothing.... A size 22/24 beautiful ball gown... Worn once. It is a true reminder of how out of control I was and more importantly, how far I have come!!!!

I love that gurgle!!! Right after a fill, on the way home, it was LOUD!!! Funny.

Funny!!!! I was looking at all the cute Spring-Summer cupcake papers they had in the store yesterday, and I can't get cupcakes out of my head!!!!! Also dreamt about those Entennemanns seasonal cupcakes that are fully half frosting!!!!!! Call my lawyer! Quick!!!

What did you tell you family/friends?
feb27bandwoman replied to charlibell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dad had a saying,"You can't un-ring that bell". I told only my hubby and grown children who were all sworn to secrecy. If anyone asks, I am eating less, smaller portions and exercising regularly. Only one or two people have had the temerity to ask if I had surgery. I find that in general, people are way too nosy about other peoples personal business. Also, once you tell folks that you have had some type of surgery,(gall bladder, hernia, exploratory laparotomy)you have "rung that bell". People may interrogate you about those surgical procedures as well. It can become tiresome. -
Phone charger!!!! Hahaha....I was an overnight stay and it was necessary......
-
The forum has much to offer. But, just like anything..... There' s a mix of people.I had a fairly un eventful first 2 years, grat weight loss. Then had a band slip and needed surgery to fix that. Now , I have gotten a second chance at starting over with the band

Losing weight before sugery
feb27bandwoman replied to ready4myboys's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The American Society of Bariatric Physicians doesn't recommend the use of HCG for weight loss. You can't get all your essential nutrients on such a very low calorie diet. The oral dose of HCG contains very little HCG. It seems odd that an MD would recommend this as a weight loss method. -

feb27bandwoman replied to ready4myboys's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why did he give you HCG? HCG was banned by the FDA but I see that there are some MD's prescribing it with a very low calorie diet. They call it "homeopathic", but there is really only one old study fom 1995. -
