  1. I have been on the pre- op diet and only have 4 days before surgery. I read all your comments above and I feel SO ANXIOUS!!! I lost about 5 pounds in the first week, but I am still unable to curb my hunger at night. I am not looking for excuses, but I take steroids to keep flair ups of the "Sweets Syndrome" I have, at bay!! I have been on daily steroids for the past 8 years since being diagnosed and will have to take it for the rest of my life. They cause serious hunger, not just cravings. I am so worried after what I read above about "open surgery". Are anyone else on steroids? How did this effect being sleeved? I have so many medical issues and I guess I just need support tonight. Thank you!
  2. Hi everyone, wow I am so grateful to have found this site. I live in Australia, on the Gold Coast. My surgeon is dr Layani, he is very wellknown and have done these operations for years, he also trains other Bariatric surgery surgeons, so I feel very safe for him to be in charge. I am currently on the 2 week pre op diet, made up of 3 optislim shakes a day, plus fruit or vegetables with each shake and Snacks of fruit or diet jelly twice daily. Starting the pre op diet, I weighed 136.1kg. I was a very big baby and have had a lifelong struggle with my weight. At this stage of my life, 54, I could no longer teach, I have a very rare disease, degenerative crumbling of bones in my lower back, fybromyalgia and type 2 diabetes. Unfortunately, because of the disease (Sweets syndrome) I have to take steroids for the rest of my life. I know there are things I cannot change, but by having this surgery, I am hoping to live a life with less pain (hopefully I will be painfree!) and more energy! I have one week before surgery and would be so grateful if any of you have some suggestions, tips, or information about post surgery. Is it very painful? I am concerned that because I am diabetic, that the wound will take longer to heal? I wish all of you, wherever you are on you journey, the best of luck, I will keep you in my prayers. Elize
