Ive just got to say, I'm a little disgusted with that office. I was scheduled for my first fill with them May 7. They called and cancelled. They rescheduled me for a month later, June 7th. Called me at noon that day when my apt was at 3... And rescheduled again! July 17th! I'm going to look for someone else!

Port Lflipped Twice!!
gingerwale replied to EwaBeachRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said there are two ways to attach the port. The port comes with little prongs that self attach to the muscle. The other way is to suture I directly to the muscle. He said he has seen a lot of flipped ports from MDs that use the prongs? Maybe this is why? -
Try these things: Atkins chocolate delight, 1/2 scoop of body fortress chocolate Protein powder, and 1/4 cup of plain Greek yogurt. This is good with vanilla shakes as well. Blend well. If you want something warm and high protein: Lipton cup of Soup cream o chicken. Add a couple tablespoons of taco sauce, add 1/2 cup of fat free Greek yogurt. you can add some Metamucil clear if you need some Fiber. These things saved my life pre and post op diets.

Ready For My First Fill 9 Months Post Surgery!
gingerwale replied to Kimiky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi kimicky, Can I ask how long you were on your pre op diet, and was It low carb? I'm a labor and delivery nurse and have worked in ob gyn for 15 years... I've seen a strong correlation between over weight women who make drastic changes on their lifestyles to a low carb diet... Who suddenly become pregnant after years of trying. Had you been diagnosed with pcos? Thanks for appeasing my curiosity. Congrats on your little miracle! -
Need Greek Yogurt Suggestions
gingerwale replied to ElizabethAnne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I make a thick cream soup out of Greek yogurt. I Get Lipton cup of soup cream soup powder, a couple of tablespoons of mild taco sauce, half a cup of Greek yogurt, and two to three tablespoons of Benefiber clear. It's low cal, fat free, high fiber, and quashes the urge for Mexican food -
Question Number 2
gingerwale replied to gingerwale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a labor and delivery nurse. It's to ensure I am physically fit enough that I won't be injured and hit them with a workers comp issue. Md won't write a note, said its fine just don't over do. I'm going to let the evaluator know I just can't an hopefully it won't dq me from the position -
Ok... Thanks everyone for your help and support on my last question. I'm feeling much better and no longer worried about a slip! Who would think that three weeks out I would start needing so much new info? I am on day 22 today. (Yay! For me, today means I can eat for the first time. I go straight from shakes to regular diet. But this has nothing to do with my question) I have to take a functional assessment on Tuesday for work. That will put me almost 4 weeks out from surgey. Sit ups are included. I contacted my doc to ask if I should refuse to do the sit ups, because of worry about port attachment. He said just don't over do and I would be the best judge. Can anyone tell me what their doctor told them about abdominal work outs? I thought I remembered somewhere reading 3 months. I anticipate this assessment being " lets see how many sit ups you can do". I will ask the tester what the minimum required is and let him know my concerns and support my port site as best I can. Any other suggestions or information anyone can give?

Lost One Pound In Two Months

My turn for a question, and thanks in advance for your help! : I am 20 days post op. I have been on full liquids for 14 days. And i am scheudled to go to regular diet in 48 hours. Last night, after six weeks of nothing but protein shakes and soups, I drank a small chocolate milkshake from mcdonalds through a straw. I haven't had any issues whatsoever with any full liquids and can drink 16 ounces fairly quickly without any issue at all. I drank the milkshake over about 8 minutes, not feeling any issues. About ten minutes later I got a sharp pain in my abdomen about two inches above my belly button. It dulled after about 45 minutes, and then I just felt cramps around my belly button, in my lower abdomen, and in my back. I haven't been having regular BMs since surgery. I assumed the fat and lactose of the milkshake was just a shock to my system and considered it a lesson learned. After about another hour of the cramps I took some MOM In case i was constipated. A few hours later I had a loose stool, some gas, and felt somewhat better, but I had a tender spot in the left side of my abdomen about two inches below my rib cage. Everything else was better. In the night I had a little heartburn which I hadn't had at all, again, I attributed this to my poor choice of a milkshake. This morning when i tried to drink my protein shake, I feel like I did after surgery. Fullness under my rib cage, and a fullness in the back of my throat and a feeling as if I have to burp after every few sips and a little heartburn. No nausea. No vomiting. My band is empty, but thus far I have felt satisfied for hours when I drink cream soups, so I was hopeful I would be a lucky one who wouldn't need a fill for restriction once I started eating. But now I'm concerned that I have have caused a prolapse by drinking through a straw. The milkshake wasn't thick, but it wasnt totally soupy either. I am going to call my doctor when the office opens, I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced anything similar?

Thanks everyone for your support... Just like the "margarita" incident in my early 20s, this will be know as the "milkshake" debacle.... Ne'er to be repeated.

Honestly? Because I had worked for 15 hours and hadn't had time for anything other than Clear Liquids. I was hungry and weak and couldn't wait to get home to get a Protein shake. Mcdonalds was right there and there is nothing else on the menu that would have worked. This is the first poor choice I have made since scheduling for surgery... And I'm pretty happy with that... And definitely lesson learned! Also, my md said straws are no problem. I Had avoided them until now because I read on here that others had been told not to. I was hungry and didn't even really think.

Bloating & Sharp Stinging Pain Near An Incision Site
gingerwale replied to nicademus82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Potatoes are notorious for causing gas and bloating... And if you use milk in them, many people become sensitive to lactose after they get lap band. Maybe some milk of magnesia to help your bowels move along? That might relieve the pressure? -
You're definitely not alone.... Maybe Try some extra Vitamin d? Especially if the weather is cloudy.... Low Vitamin D levels have been linked with depression and the blues.

Thyroid Levels Increased... Ugggg!!! Will This Result In Slow Progress??
gingerwale replied to Brown Kameleon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Diets high in soy, high in fiber, and those who take the antacid aluminum hydroxide (contained in milk of magnesia) sometime have difficulty absorbing their thyroid hormones. These are all things that pretty common in us lap Banders. Always take on an empty stomach, sounds like you knew this.... A couple additional things to try: this sounds weird, but chew your synthroid. It does not taste bad, and saliva will help break it down and may help with absorbtion. Also, you might try splitting your dose in half and taking twice a day instead of once. Good luck! -
Hey, how did things go for you? I haven't seen any new posts? Just checking in to make sure you're ok?
