Keeping My Fingers Crossed
rdoactv replied to rdoactv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry Kat. I know its frustrating. The Ins companies goal is always to make money short term, regardless how it affects you long term. It is always assumed by them that you'll change companies and its not worth the long term investment for them. But keep trying. Kinda makes you feel Mexico is the option just to avoid the frustration and disappointment. Figured Id try to get the approval. Makes me feel like I'm doing something while I save my pennies. Good luck. -
I had called my insurance a few weeks ago. The lady in the phone seemed confused and unable to find my coverages and or exclusions then told me bariatric was excluded. I then decided to go for a consult anyway just to attempt insurance approval while I saved to go to Mexico. I had my consult with a surgeon today. Strangely, they checked my insurance and seem to be under the impression that it is covered and I have a good chance of approval(???) So, Im headed to the GI next. Guess we'll see what happens from here. Maybe, just maybe....trying not to get my hopes up too much though.

Keeping My Fingers Crossed

Thanks NJ, I've set my sights on Dr. Garcia if I do end up self pay. But if Ins. Will pay it will happen much sooner. Single parent, so the cash would take some time. It'll happen one way or another. It's become a tunnel vision goal for me. -

What Are Some Things You Can't Wait For Once You Loose Weight?
rdoactv replied to labubakari's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Simple umbrella answer: I can't wait to live, not watch. -
2bsmall thanks for posting the link for Dr. Alvarez. I watched all of the videos and feel very comfortable with the surgery now. Wish I could afford him. I can see how he could help his patients feel very at ease. Way out of my price range though. It does kindof make you wonder though how the other docs charge so much less. Ill end up with Garcia or Kelly as Ill struggle just to get into their price range.
-
Awesome!! Congrats on your surgery. Thanks for sharing your experience. Im seriously considering Garcia. Still in the fence. Everyone has had such a positive experience with him. Maybe Ill join u on the other side soon.

Anyone Atleast 2 Yrs Out?

Umm..does anyone know HOW to reach Dr. Kelly? All searches lead me to the typical WL coordinators and I know he has his own now. -

Thank you ALL. You have made me feel better about pursuing the sx in Mexico. Of course, financials will play a roll in my single income situation, but I think I will contact these other two physicians as well and then make a decision on who I feel most comfortable with. This board is like a pot of gold for info and support. -

CCL, thank you for clearing some of that up. It makes sense and kindof (lol) sets me at ease. I know their is always risk with surgery, I know I want this regardless of that risk. Just didn't want to add a higher one by choosing something subpar. Im a single mom and it scares me. But I also know that my desire to live a LONG life this way isn't there. Its nice to talk to the two of you who are also in the medical field. It does lend a bit more confidence to my decision. Delby, I don't want to feed the rumor mill about Dr.Kelly esp. if unwarranted, but will only repost what is posted elsewhere that caused my concern. It is said there was more than one death in a short period, and I saw postings by atleast two persons claiming to have called 3Pete different medical facilities and confirming that he was banned from sx in their facilities. Hopefully untrue, as I have heard wonderful things as well, but it was enough to plant a question in my physician considerations. Thank you both for the info and helping me to think this through. It IS a huge decision for us all. -

I know the staples are supposed to be titanium..lol with all the fears that the coordinators inspire with their price wars I think that's what freaks me out. Prices range there from 4499 to 9000. That's creepy. Lol my own imagination and the fact Im in the medical field keeps me second guessing. Im sure doc Kelly is a good doctor, Ive heard good things. But when you base your sx decision on the sleeve boards, its hard to ignore the recent hub bub about him. : / -

Debly, hey thanks for the reply. Was she sleeved in Mexico? I guess Im worried about all the talk with the coordinators that since its so cheap, "this doc uses cheap materials" and "our doc is more expensive because the staple quality is better" blah, blah...makes me nervous. But I hear good things about experiences, but not much for longevity. Horrible thoughts of staples rusting out and sutures falling apart and stuff..silly I know. Lol -

Lol..well, guess its usually used in a derogatory manner, but since we use it now as a part of LBGTQ..kinda loses its sting. I wouldn't say you've lost your membership card lol. It IS l B gt. I would say u still fit that, just maybe inactive. You found the one you wanted ; ) amazing that a community that begs acceptance can be so judgmental. Nice to meet u btw. -
