rdoactv replied to Kami's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats Kami. You know we all focus on the weight loss cuz that is the root to all of our have nots, can'ts, and won't allow ourselves. But as this post shows is not that we reach 110lbs, but that we get to the point of being happy and confident with ourselves. -
Im 5'0 196lbs. In pretest stage w/ hopes of getting Ins. Approval. Nice to see the success stories and good luck to those newly sleeved and hopefuls.

Welcome! : ) sorry u didnt get any responses. I think there are often si much info and activity here that your posts may have been overlooked. Depends also in which forum you post, some get less traffic but the site is extremely friendly and supportive. Im preop and have found it to be a treasure chest of info and support. -
Any VSG people in Hampton Roads?
rdoactv replied to amy1981's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The WLS center is great. Both docs there seem wonderful. I went for to the seminar there 3yrs ago when I have considered banding. Wish I could go there but I live in Richmond now. Im preop sleeve but feeling not so warm and fuzzy about my doc as he has only done 12 sleeves though he has much bariatric sx experience..oh well. Good luck. They do have a wonderfully supportive staff frim what I saw. My current doc...umm not so much. I feel like Im on my own and never know what my next step is...shrug. -
Richmond Virginia Sleevers Around?

Hey Geeky. Im preop but going thru the process. I live in Chesterfield near Richmond. Im with Dr. Elliott at HCA. I've been for consult and he's sending me for acid reflux tests...oh joy. Of course I have reflux! Im fat. Lol but Ill just jump thru the hoops as told. Where are in your process? -
Sleevers here..if anyone here had a band most have revised to sleeve. Not sure you'll receive many responses since this is a gastric sleeve site. But welcome and good luck. Im sure some of the info here is useful to you as well.

Im seeing a doc here in the states, if I get Insurance approval. If not, I will save for Dr. Garcia. -
Why Doesn't Anyone Say Anything?
rdoactv replied to AliveAgain's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree with most here. I think its such a sensitive and uncomfortable subject. Kindof like when someone sees us after a while, it would be completely unacceptable to say "wow! You've packed in the pounds!", it is just as unacceptable to point out other physical changes unless they know for sure that the change is a purposeful and positive one. -
Im attempting to get my insurance to pay here in the states. Im a single parent, so cash is not an easy thing to come by. But honestly, if I had the cash available, Id be on my flight to mexico. The doctors here have little experience with sleeves. The surgeon Im seeing has many many years of bariatric experience and I know the sleeve is a simpler surgery, but he has 12 under his belt. That doesn't exactly make me feel confident. But Im desperate to have this done. If I could afford it, Id rather go to Mexico with a surgeon who has done a 1000 plus sleeves. IF my insurance denies, Ive already chosen a mexican surgeon and will eat ramen every day if I must.

Congrats! You look gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your experience.

I have Anthem. But havent met my deductable yet, my employer pays 1st half of 2500, I pay second half. They paid the full amount out of that account, rather than the copay. Anthem paid nothing. It just struck me as strange or that there was some mistake but maybe not according to the consult amounts paid by others.
-
I went for my initial consult. The one where they just decide if you're a candidate, discuss surgical types, health/weight loss history and rcvd a script for reflux tests. Does this consult normally cost $481??? This has got to be a mistake in billing. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I obviously can't call the docs office til Monday.
-
Good grief..a specialist consult is an average of $50 copay w/ most insurers. How can they charge 4-500?? I see why Mexico is so appealing.
-
Wow..if 15 minutes of chat is nearly 500 lol...not so sure I want him to actually TOUCH me. I might have to mortgage my home.
