Cheles replied to DisappearingDivis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agreed. I'm slowing down and think 2lbs per week is awesome compared to a big FAT ZERO....which used to be the case. Smile, you're doing great! -

Cheles replied to xraylinny's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Yeah, I too was told to avoid Special K because of sugar content. I drink Premier Protein ready to drink from Sam's. I like them cold. -

This is my 1st week back at work since being sleeved on 12/20. I thought I was going to be the "freak on display". Thankfully it wasn't that way. Although, the ENTIRE building knew about my surgery...can you say GOSSIP CENTRAL? Anyway, I had cleaned out 1/4 of my closet before returning to work. That left me with 22 and 20 sized pants to wear. Well, I wore 22 on the 1st day and my legs were swimming in them. Some of my co-workers were like, you need smaller pants!. So, the next day I wear 20's. I only had 3-pairs of size 20 in my closet. And again I heard, you need smaller pants you are swimming in them. Tuesday night I shopped my mom's closet for the 1st time in my life. She's always been smaller then me. This was a treat! She's a classic,, tailored dresser like I am. She gave me all her 18 pants, some 1X tops, blazers, and the beautiful navy blue dress coat (which I have adored for years). I came home, emptied out another portion of my closet and hung all these beautiful clothes. Mind you, mom's pants are way to long for me and I need to get them hemmed. So off to work I go Thursday. I have on 18's which are comfy and dressy. My shoes...well, I've lost a shoe size so my Pliner which I hadn't worn in 4-years were sliding off my feet! Ugg! I'm so ticked about that....really, my feet this quick?? Thrusday was also the day of the 1st instance of a freak on display occured. I got a good laugh about it. They didn't ask me a question or say anything about the surgery. They just stared and said "Welcome back...you were missed". I also received a wonderful compliment about how my weight loss has taken 10-years off my face. That made my day!

Alcohol After 6 Weeks Out?
Cheles replied to shannonbcaldwell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeron said 1-year. He stated that 1-ounce of liquor would have me drop dead drunk. Not sure if I want to try that just yet. I'm only 6-weeks out. Mind you, I may try a 1/2-glass of wine at the 6-month mark. -

Here's' my beef stock recipe. 4-lbs beef shank split (have the butcher split them in 1/2) 2-carrots quartered 2-Celery quartered 2-Onions quartered 3-bay leafs 20-peppercorns 6-cloves of garlic 2-sprigs thyme 5-springs parsley 16-cups of Water 2-cups of red wine Set the oven to 450 and place beef shanks in a roasting pan (place olive oil in the bottom) along with all quartered vegtabler. Roast for 1-1/2 hours and turn shanks every 20 minutes. In a stock pot, add 15 cups of water, and layer your beef and veggies in to pot. Add remaining items. Set the stock to med and bring to a boil and then reduce to med-low. While the stock is begining to cook, use the remaining 1-cup of water to deglaze the roasting pan. Be sure to get all the brown bits up...this is good stuff that adds flavor. Once the roasting pan is deglazed, add the remaining liquid to the stock pot. The stock should simmer for about 4-hours at a slow bubble. Once the stock as reduced by 1/2 it is ready to strain. I use a 2-cup measuring cup to begin straining and a meshed strainer. The strainer sits on a 4-quart bowl. I put the meat in a container to the side then pick it and and freeze it...it's wonderful for Soups or stews. The remaining liquids you will need to press with a large spoon in the strainer to get the liquids out. I generally give my dog's the solids that are left in the strainer...they love it. Once you have the liquid strained, place it in the frige for 24-hours and the next day remove the fat from the top. Then store is pint bags or jars. This will hold for 6-months in the freezer. Note, the end product will be like a jelly...this is due to the beef. Once you heat it up it returns to a liquid. Enjoy! This keep me alive during pre-op and my liquid post op.

Congrats to all who have cleaned out their closets! I'm too afraid of buying new clothes or shoes right now. I so wanted a pair of boots, but my mom talked me off that ledge saying, "your calves will go down more by next year....buy them then". She's right. I walked away from the pretty boots, but I know next year will be different. I need to clear out some of my old shorts. I've got plenty which are a size 24, there are a few 22's, a 20 and a 16 which I've held on to. Good luck. I plan to hit 2nd hand stores during my transition. I hate spending all that money and watching it go down the drain...but in a good way.
