Well I guess your surgery is tomorrow so its a little late to encourage you on your preop diet lol. But good luck tomorrow and I hope everything goes well.

    Do You Hate Protein Powder/liquids?

Glad you found something you like. By the way, you can order directly from their website. Just google premier protein shakes. Good luck on your journey!
  3. Welcome to all of you. Sorry you didn't get responses on your first posts. There are so many forums and threads here that sometimes posts can get lost. Hope you find a lot of information here on your journey.
  4. Yay! Glad you're doing so well.

    New To The Forum

Welcome! I'm currently doing the six month diet program as well. Time will fly! Make sure to browse the different forums here. They are packed with lots of good info.

    Bowel Prep

It might not be a bad idea. You probably won't be able to "go" for a couple days after surgery so it help avoid additional discomfort. Good luck on Monday!

    Aflac?

I was considering getting an AFLAC policy in anticipation of my surgery. I know they have one for hospitalization and didn't know if anyone here had used them or if they covered the procedure. I'm also concerned in case I have complications that require an extended stay. Any info you can give me would be appreciated.

    Insurance Denial For Gaining Weight?

You might want to look at PCIP. I was trying to find individual health insurance to cover removing my gallbladder and got denied by BCBS and United Healthcare simply because of my weight. PCIP is a government program for people with pre-existing health conditions. Texas is one of the states that's covered in this plan. The only hitch for you would be that you have to be without insurance for six months. But if you can stick that out, they have three different plans. The one I'm on has a 2k deductible and 4k OOP maximum. Because my gallbladder surgery covers that, I hope to get sleeved sometime in July at no extra cost! Good luck.

    Surgeon Consultation Fee?

I assume you're self-pay? I just had to give them my copay. Of course, I now have a $400 lab bill because I have a deductible. So I guess I'm paying the same.

Drink And Eat At The Same Time

Hang in there, it can be done. I'm pre-op but I knew this would be a big deal for me. I'm the three refills of tea girl at restaurants so I started practicing. Now I don't drink during the majority of my meals. If I do drink, it's just a few sips. You can do this!
  11. Absolutely! You have the right to choose a PCP who will support your decision. I'm extremely fortunate because mine had the procedure done last year and is a big advocate of it. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
  12. I'm doing the same as you, trying out different Protein powders and at least eliminating those that I don't like. As someone else said, I know your taste buds often change but at least I can get some kind of idea of what might work post-op. Although I loved the one Chike I've had so far (the banana tastes like banana taffy!) it has a definite artificial taste to it and the list of ingredients takes up half the pack. I've really liked the About Time products. They only have four ingredients and use Stevia to sweeten their powders. Definitely order samples and taste, taste, taste. Don't forget the fruit flavored ones as well. I've seen that a lot of people have problems with dairy immediately after surgery so it's a good idea to have alternatives. Good luck!

    Freaking Out!

    Congratulations!

    Bowel Prep

Wheesin, that's awful! It's bad enough to have the stress of an upcoming procedure, but then to be used as a pin cushion is adding insult to injury. Is doing the bowel prep common for the sleeve surgery? I had to do it earlier this year for my colonoscopy and was banking on not having to go through that particular experience for another five years.

    Who Did You Tell?

I'm really torn about this. My sisters and daughter know but that's it for right now. My biggest question mark is whether to tell my boss. We work in a very small office and I've worked for him for almost 10 years. He's a great guy but I'm afraid he's going to (subconsciously) resent me for taking time off for an "elective" procedure. I'm debating just telling him that I need a procedure done that will require an overnight hospital stay and a few days off. I'm lucky that I can work from home if necessary but I don't know if I'll feel comfortable withholding that information from him. I have a couple of months to decide.
  16. Best of luck! Everything will be fine and you'll be starting your new life.
  17. Sorry you're having such an issue with heartburn. My surgeon says that he will often "tighten" up the esophagus if it looks like the patient might have issue with reflux. Hoping that I won't run into this issue since it's one of the reasons I'm getting the sleeve in the first place!
  18. I thought about trying the Isopure RTD but at $5+ a pop, I thing I want to try some of the powders first. I'm pre-op so I have a bit of time to try a bunch of different stuff. I'm lucky in that I don't mind the taste of most of the protein drinks I've tried so far. Fingers crossed it remains the same after surgery!

    First Post-Op Visit

Congratulations on having such a good follow up appointment!
  20. I'm glad everyone is doing so well post op! One word on protein shots. Make sure they don't use collegen protein. That type isn't what we need, we need whey. I would hate for you to waste your limited stomach capacity on something that doesn't give you what you need.
  21. I've been trying to lose a bit of weight before my surgery (six month wait due to insurance.) I've been reducing my calories and even started upping my Protein. This morning I realized that if I lose more than 22 pounds during my supervised diet, my BMI will drop below 40 and I wouldn't qualify for surgery. I "only" have one co-morbidity and my insurance requires two if you're BMi is below 40. Although I'm thankful insurance will cover it (and I've met my out of pocket maximum due to gallbladder surgery), it sucks that I could be penalized for being successful. So I guess I'll set a goal to lose 10-15 pounds until my paperwork goes in, which will either be end of July or end of August. I'm not sure when the insurance asks for a six month monitored diet if six visits with the NUT counts or if I have to do seven. Anyone out there know?

    Catch-22, Literally

I agree, Kayte. I'm making changes but not killing myself trying to lose weight. I should get my last visit done at the end of June and will wait till then to really start working on losing. I figure once the paperwork is submitted, I'm in the clear.

    May Sleeve!

Congratulations! It would be great to do this with my sister. She was skeptical at first but now she wants to get sleeved too! But she's not sure if her insurance will cover it so she's going to do some checking.

    Protein Shakes

Amazon sells it or you can order it directly from the company Bell Plantation's website. They also have a page where you can search for a store near you. I actually bought a jar from a local store that sells all kinds of cool stuff, including sugar free, fat free and gluten free products. Happy hunting!

    Dallas June Sleevers?

I'm in Dallas (well Garland) but I probably won't get sleeved til July. Have any of you checked out or gotten info about support groups?
