Anyone From Northern Va/dc Area
Txsmama replied to sbstylun's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just moved to Manassas from Texas. I had my surgery in San Antonio last April. Do you know of any good support groups in the area? How are you doing since surgery? -
I have started using soy milk in my protein shakes. I figure this way I am still getting my protein and the soy benefits as well. :-)
-
Is soy protein as good as whey protein? I jave heard lots of good stuff about soy protein use for women. Has anyone heard good or bad?

I am 6 months post op, I have lost 70 lbs thus far. My question is how long will the weight keep coming off? I know there is a point where the malabsorption isnt as effective. I only want to lose about 15 more pounds.
-
Just be patient, you will lose the weight. You just had surgery and your body is still swollen and full of alot of Fluid and air. It really is amazing how quickly the weight comes off!
-
Thanks, Thats what I have heard also, 18 months. I'll ask my doctor at my follow up.
-
Thanks! I am down 60 lbs. I either walk 4-5 times a week or do the elliptical. I also do strength training 3-4 times a week.

Ok, this is for the ladies, did any of you have weird periods after your surgery? I have thought that I was starting my period everyday this week. Then it stops. . .

You look awesome! -
I usually drink a protein shake first thing in the morning. It gives me 20+ grams of protein and 8 or so ounces of liquids. Then I usually have a small snack around 10 a.m. Hope this helps!

First Experience "losing It"
Txsmama replied to amy0501's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately I had the same thing happen to me last night. I am 5 weeks post op. I was eating a chicken burger and took too big of bite. I felt awful for almost an hour until I could finally throw it all up. but boy did I feel better after! Like you said "lesson learned". -
I just tried Oh Yeah! protein shake, the banana cream flavor. It is by far the BEST shake I have found. It has 32 grams of protein , 3 grams of sugar and 4 carbs per 14 oz bottle.

I am also concerned about hair loss. I have already been losing hair due to my thyroid. I asked my surgeon about hair loss before my surgery and he told me it was normal to start losing hair about 3 mos post op. Unfortunately it can last until 9 mos post op. he did say start taking Biotin and selenium.

I started my 2 week pre op liquid diet yesterday. Does anyone know how many calories we are supposed to be getting a day? I have only managed to get 600 cal/ day. I am really tired, and to think I have 2 more weeks of liquids after the surgery?!

I am afraid of failing also! I lose weight, then to just put it + plus back on. I am thankful for losing the 28 lbs that I have, I don't want to sound greedy. Maybe I will start using the elliptical and see if that makes a difference. Good luck Panda!
