    Inspiration

I had the same experience with my 2nd fill on Tuesday. I have been at a plateau for a month and thought I was never going to have restriction. Especially since I didn't have any after my first fill. But now I can only eat a TINY portion of what I could eat before and I've already dropped 2 more pounds! It's so nice to see the scale moving again.

    Oprah- Thursday WLS Sagging Skin

Yes, I get that uncomfortable feeling too when I eat, but I haven't noticed it being any worse in the mornings. Of course, it's only been one day, but I'll try and pay more attention. For so long now we've talked about how we wish we had restriction....isn't it nice to be talking about actually having it???

    Oprah- Thursday WLS Sagging Skin

I started Adtkins too...lol. Yes, I've tried solids. I ordered a "big breakfast" from McDonalds this morning and ate half of the sausage and 2-3 bites of the egg. Stayed full until about 1:30 this afternoon and ate some cheese. The cheese is still trying to go down...lol. The hardest thing for me is my mind telling me "you've only had 2 bites, you can eat more!" So I try to eat more. I am having a really hard time listening to my stomach and not my head!!! I think I still need another fill too. We'll see how well the weight comes off.

Hey Shelly, I'll try and catch that....it does sound interesting. I had my 2nd fill yesterday and I have restriction!!!!! We'll see how much restriction I have as the day goes by, but for now I think it's working! How are you doing with your fills?

    Port Huron Dr.'s

Yes, the first # is the pre-op weight, the second is the current weight and the third is the goal weight. I had to ask the same question too.

    Port Huron Dr.'s

I was also banded in Port Huron by Dr. Boutt. I have NEVER had a more pleasant hospital experience. From the pre-op nurses to the housekeepers, everyone was so nice and accomodating. This was my first surgery (besides a c-section which I wasn't put under general anesthetic for) and I was terrified, but everyone there was so understanding and encouraging. I would recommend Port Huron Hospital to anyone having the lap band surgery.

    M-Care

Does anyone know if M-Care health insurance (in Michigan) covers the surgery?

    Michigan Bandsters

Hi Nancy- I had my surgery by Dr. Boutt also. I had my first fill with him yesterday. I have been so happy about my decision both to have the surgery and to have him do it.
  10. I don't live in Ohio, but I wanted to say welcome to you anyways. I'm sure you'll find lots of info on this site.
  11. Well, I had my first fill today....I have been so nervous for the past 3 or 4 days, just not knowing what exactly to expect. But all went well. I forgot to ask if there is a period of time after my fill that I should not eat. He didn't say, but he was extremely busy and I don't know if he forgot to give me the instructions or if there are no instructions. Can anyone share what (if any) their post-fill diet was? Thanks:)

    Post-Fill Diet???

I can feel a little restriction, but not much. Like this morning, I tried to eat an omelette and only about 6 or 7 small bites went down. But I feel less restriction tonight. It's wierd. I definately need another fill. I'm at 1cc now and I go back on Nov. 18th for another. Until then, I'm just gonna try and "trick" myself into thinking I have restriction:)

    Post-Fill Diet???

Thanks Shelly- I also had heard no eating the day of fill so I didn't eat all morning (my appt wasn't until 2:00 in the afternoon) and when I got there he said I could have eaten!!! But I ended up calling him and asking about post-fill and he said clear liquids for the rest of the day and then back to normal foods. Thanks for your info though.

    Joy H

Hi, this isn't Joy but I'm her neice. She very RARELY gets online so thats why she hasnt answered you. She is still very happy she has the band. She says it's the best thing she's ever done for herself and she would do it all again.
  16. WOW!!!!!!!! That's all I can say. You look GREAT! I get my first fill tomorrow (10/14) so I'm hoping to be on my way to losing 50+ pounds soon too.
  17. Hey Jerry- I sent you a private message regarding doctors in Mexico and also a pretty inexpensive doctor here in Michigan.
  18. If you click on "search" at the top of the page and type in "Joya" it will bring up all the posts that contain that name. Maybe you'll find someone that way and you can private message or Email them.

    hospital stay and questions

My hospital stay was overnight. My surgery was at 9:45 in the morning and I was released from the hospital at around 2:00 the next afternoon. No complications at all. I have 5 incisions. Really only one is an actual incision, the other 4 are like "puncture wounds" like Alexandra said.

    August 2003 bandsters...

It is so nice to hear that everyone else is having the same issues as I am. I'm referring to feeling little or no restriction. I know that "this is not the losing stage, but the healing stage" but it is getting really discouraging to not feel that restriction. And everyone that I see that knows I've had the surgery says "how much have you lost now?" and I say "22 pounds" and their response is ALWAYS "that's what you were at 2 weeks ago, you haven't lost anything in 2 whole weeks?"!!! Then I find myself getting more and more discouraged. I think it is just the fear of losing the weight loss battle AGAIN!!! But when I get on here and read these posts, it makes me feel so much better. I don't feel like I'm the only one who's waiting on pins and needles for some restriction! My first fill is scheduled for 10/14 and I'm going to beg for him to be aggressive...lol. Thanks everyone for your posts. I'm so glad I found this site.

    cost

I was banded in Michigan and my insurance denied me. The total cost for me was $13,000. This does not include fills. Most doctors that I checked into were between $15,000 and $20,000. Some will let you do "payment arrangements" if you qualify.
  22. I was on Clear liquids the day before surgery and NOTHING after midnight the night before surgery. I've heard other people talk about having to diet for a couple of weeks so that your liver would shrink and be easier to work around. I think it's pretty much a surgeons preference.

    Four weeks out...the hardest part?

I was just having this conversation yesterday!!!!! I too have been feeling SOOOOO frusterated because I'm hungry! My surgeon won't give me a fill until 8 weeks!!! I'm at almost 5 now, but another 3 weeks seems so far away. I've been trying to watch my carbs so that I can continue to lose a little before my fill. Thanks for all the posts on this, it's nice to know I'm not the only one.
  24. I had my surgery at Port Huron Hospital in Michigan. As far as weight loss goes, I lost 16 pounds in the first 2 weeks (on clear liquids), then about 2 pounds in the next week (on full liquids), then when I switched to solids and hit a plateau for about a week. My doctor won't give a fill until 8 weeks, so I decided to do something on my own and start losing again before my fill. So I started cutting down on my carbs and that has helped a lot. I've lost another 4 pounds so I'm at a total of -22 pounds right now. I'm about 5 weeks post-op. The thing is when the swelling goes down from the surgery, you feel hungry (or at least I did) and you have no restriction because there's nothing in the band yet. So your natural instinct is to just keep on eating. If you read the posts on here, some people say they've actually gained a few pounds when switching to solids. It can get frusterating, but it's so rewarding to step on the scale:) Brandi
