Hi, I'm New Here :) Just Got A Surgery Date!
VJSlim replied to learning to fly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi and Welcome! This is a great community and people here are very helpful and genuine in their efforts to educate the newly sleeved and those who are contemplating sleeve. I know you'll enjoy getting to know more about VSG. I was sleeved just 4 months ago. I used to drink Optifast in my pre-op diet. Dont like the vanilla flavor, but I think the chocolate is okay. I like the Vanilla better with a half tsp of coffee blended with cold milk. I dont take the Protein shakes with Water -- I always use cold milk. I used Optifast because it was a more balanced Meal Replacement for me and it had 19 to 20g protein in one serving (46g). Wishing you a safe surgery, speedy recovery and awesome weight loss!!! -

Awesome! Congrats! Keep up the good work!

I dont count calories either. My surgeon told that any kind of calorie goal will not work at the beginning. When I asked, he said to just concentrate on getting in the protein and fluids and taking my vitamin, iron and calcium meds daily. It kinda makes sense because I cannot push more food in to reach calorie goals, and slider foods will take me back to my food addiction

Stopped Losing, Help!
VJSlim replied to dzsunshine2901's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you weighing daily? If so you should know that it could be very dicouraging when you dont see scale movement. I used to do that -- weigh every other day - it was so frustrating. Then my doc advised to weigh weekly for the first 3 months and then once every two weeks. That helps with the peace of mind LOL AND -- everyone goes through stalls in this journey. Most famous one is the 3rd week stall. Happens to almost everyone. Be prepared for that too and dont freak out. You'll do great! Concentrate on your Protein and Fluid intake - everything will fall in place. All the best!! -
My doc did not say anything about no berries. In fact, I used to eat strawberries right after I started solids phase. Did your surgeon say why no berries?

Hey I totally understand this LOL! This really is a big NSV Congrats!

Why Did You Choose The Sleeve?
VJSlim replied to pebbles99's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Lap band was not an option for me. I live in India, and our diet is not suitable for band. My choices were GB and VSG, and I knew from Day 1 that I would choose VSG. It is the whole malnutrition thing. I dont like to be on meds on a regular basis, and If I had GB, I would have to take Iron, Vitamins and Calcium forever. I did not want that. I also liked the concept of eating whatever you can but having limited amounts. I like to treat myself every now and then, and I thought I couldnt do that with GB. So I chose VSG. All the best for your surgery! Do your research and choose whichever you think would work for you! -

Hi all, I haven't had any cravings (except for watermelons) since my surgery. I love chocolate and was worried that I would give in to temptation. But after surgery, I cant stand sweets - especially chocolates. But from last night, I've got this weird craving for potatoes. Not even for fries, I would settle for any version. I'm 4 months post-op and havent had even a bite of potato till now. Do you guys eat them? If not regularly, atleast once a while? If so what is your fav low-fat recipe with potatoes? Thanks!
-
Thank you for the replies, guys!! I was so scared to eat potatoes because of the carbs. But you are right - eating a small portion will not be a problem. I'm usually good at avoiding temptation. This is the first time I even voiced out a craving. I mean, potato is not even my 'most fav' food. So this is really driving me crazy LOL

All the best! Have a safe surgery, speedy recovery and awesome weight loss!!

Congrats!! That should feel amazing! I'm so close to onederland I can taste it. Cant wait to get there!!!

I was weighed when I was discharged from the hospital (at 5 days post-op). Then I weighed myself only during my 1 month post-op doctor's visit. Dont beat yourself up. You'll see the weight fall off gradually in a pace that suits your body! PS: Absence of hunger is a good sign that the doc cut the right part out LOL
