I'm a 53 year old male. I've been living with my wonderful wife and daughters in SoCal for 20 years. Like many people who subscribe to this forum, I've been overweight for a good portion of my life. I can recall back when I was a teenager getting physicals for sports that my doctor used to write "well nourished" when describing my overall condition.
An extended conversation with my sister-in-law who has a lap-band started me thinking about surgery as a solution to my overly "well nourished" physique. After doing quite a bit of research I came across Dr. Fuller who works with the Scripps Weight Management Group here in San Diego. After speaking with him and doing more research I came to feel that VSG would be a better solution for me than the lap-band. Never seriously considered Gastric Bypass. The idea of malnourishment and dumping weren't very attractive.
I was amazed how quickly and easily the pre-surgery process was. I was able to complete the psychological exam, dietician and orientation and get my insurance approval (BCBS PPO) all within 6 weeks. I had my surgery on 3/22 at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla.
The initial recovery process was quick and fairly easy. I was up and walking within 3 hours of getting to my room and was released to go home the next evening. So far my recovery has gone well so far.
Although I've yet to post to this forum, I have learned a lot from all the great posts I've read. The openness and loving support that exists here is incredible. I look forward to contributing and continuing to learn from everyone.
