Constant Aftertaste
lizzyshade replied to lizzyshade's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, I had that a lot before surgery & thankfully not since. This is a sour taste, like you get after sugar-free drinks. It is almost always there, no matter the flavor I am consuming. I just wondered if this was common & does it go away? -
Love your name mizzliz thanks

I had my 2 week post-op appointment today, it was bitter sweet. Good news is I have lost 10 lbs since my sleeve, I do not have an incision infection, and I am healing. Bad news is that I may have an intestinal infection (being tested) that is the root cause of my consistent diarrhea and that although healing, I'm healing very slow and am not absorbing enough fluids and nutrients (because of the diarrhea). I was supposed to return to work tomorrow, but my doctor will not release me for another week and even stated it could be another week after that. I feel very emotional about it all tonight. Honestly I don't feel like I have the energy to work yet, but on the other hand I am out of PTO and am worried about finances this month. My doctor reminded me that a couple extra weeks off to get well and strong is really a small thing in the scheme of life ahead of me. My mantra.... It will all be worth it in the end, the dream of a smaller happier me, makes it all worth it!

Thank you!

Great post, I'm so excited for you! Changing sizes is a very emotional thing. Looking forward and nervous about that day myself. I like your idea of altering sizes though, I will look into the costs involved. Thanks for the great example and congratulations!

Just returned from my 2 week post-op visit, bitter sweet. Good news is that I don't have an infection, but I'm also not healing very fast either. Dr. Did not release to go back to work, so I'm off another week.

Think I Got My First Case Of Dumping!
lizzyshade replied to Shilo30's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We sleevers can & do get dumping syndrome, just not as often as bipass. My surgeon gave me a warning about new studies & an explanation of the process as a warning during my pre-op exam. I have had two episodes so far & don't want to experience it again. Us sleevers are not dumping exempt, but we can learn from it & use it to our benefit. -

Thank goodness I have a post opt apt tomorrow because a drop of pus just seeped out of my main incision. I'm worried tonight.

That's great, hope mine does too.

How Much Time Off Work
lizzyshade replied to lizzyshade's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the input, I guess I am just healing slow, because it will be 2 wks on Monday since sleeved & I still don't feel like I could work a full shift. I'm going to take 2 extra days & then work a half shift the rest of the week. Decided I better listen to my body because it would be worse to go back to soon & end up taking more unscheduled time off. -
Has anyone experienced any dumping symptoms? I'm pretty sure I have the last 2 days after chocolate protein drinks. Anyone else?

Is This All Normal? What Am I Doing Wrong?
lizzyshade commented on Leaha's blog entry in Leaha's Blog
It's actually 11 days out now and although I too am on liquids, my doctor did say I can have anything that will go through a straw (just not actually use the straw) so I have had some very thin cream of wheat and potato soup. I'm having some digestive issues so I stopped even that, but my doctor said that if I felt ok after then I could continue to progress from very thin to puree. -
Is This All Normal? What Am I Doing Wrong?

Hi Leaha, I also had the sleeve on the 22nd and understand what you are saying. I have haven't been over-eating or even snacking because I almost always get diarrhea after I do eat and sometimes even after the shakes. I hope this physical learning curve is over soon, it seems a bit different for us all. One of the things I think you are describing is what I call Head Hungry, thinking about food, picturing it, tasting it, smelling it, the experience of it. Then the reality of food for us now, is nothing compared to our imagination. But that's why we are doing this, to learn new control, new habits. This sleeve tool will allow us to lose weight, while gaining time to make our new way of (eating)life so normal that we never gain the weight back. That's what I'm reminding myself today anyway, everyday seems hard so far, but there is no going back. Don't worry about the number of lbs lost yet or clothing size, just concentrate on nutrition intake, the rest will come. It just has too! -
Congrats, it feels great to get that date!

I'm struggling with food intake too. I even already experienced dumping yesterday after a protein shake. Sucked, made me nervous to put anything in my mouth again. That was supposed to be the safe choice. Last night I was feeling weak and decided to try some thin cream of wheat made with milk, it went down well and today I skipped the protein drink an ate a half of an egg mushed with a tsp of cheese and it went down well. Seems each day is different with a new challenge to face or experience to learn. Hang in there CCLady, I hope you find what works for you. I'm sending up positive energy for you today.

No not strange, my surgeon actually warned me ahead of time there are reports of it happening to sleevers, & it is a risk although a lot less than the bi-pass. The trick is to figure out the trigger. I think I'm in trouble if its the protein drinks. You are not alone or crazy!

A week since surgery, a very long week. At 1130 today my husband says, "this time last week, the surgeon was telling me that the surgery went well and you were going to be fine." Well, I'm still waiting for fine, but everyday now is a little bit better and that is enough for now. It's harder to complain when I know that I chose to do this to myself, although I guess that hasn't stopped me much. I remember when surgery seemed weeks off and now normal seems weeks off. I'm so glad I have one more week off work, I went to the store today and after an hour was totally wiped out. The good news is, I have lost over 20 lbs so far and that gives me hope. I'm going to believe next weeks update will be brighter and lighter too!
