Pinkeye replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all August Sleevers, I was sleeved at St. Lukes in Boise Idaho late in the afternoon August 16, 2012 by Dr. Korn and his staff. I had a very easy time released on the morning of the 18th, was out and about visiting friends on the 19th visited a support group on the 21st. and rode my Ultra Classic Electra Glide on September 2, 2012 I have gone from no exercise to riding five miles on my bicycle, walking one mile a day, and visiting the gym three time a week! The day of the surgery my weight was 370 today I am at 300 looking at the edge that will take me to the two hundreds!!!!! FEELING and DOING GREAT!!!! -

First of all, I would like to thank all of those who post regularly. I have been lurking and reading for support and encouragement. I started this journey seven years ago when my doctor suggested I sit in a seminar for weight loss surgery. My Insurance at that time would not cover weight loss surgery. I started to write letters trying to change their mind. I then changed jobs and shortly after I started the new insurance company chose to cover the procedure if you have been employed for two years or more. March this year was the mark that I started my six month diet. I was approved for surgery late July and my date is 8/16/2012 10:50 AM, Dr. Korn and his staff have been wonderful. I am now sitting here with all of the emotions that a person can generate, excited, worried, nervous, apprehensive, and wanting to just get the surgery over and start the new journey of my new life!

I'm doing great. I had my surgery on thursday August 16, 2012 went to the group meeting on the next monday and to the cooking class on tuesday. I only used the pain meds to sleep at home three nights. I had no problems at all. I can say enough good things about Dr. Korn and his staff! The pr op evaluation wasn't much at all. PS sorry for the long delay, look at this site on my Droid and can't seem to get access to this forum on it.

I started looking at the LAPBAND when I was working for the state of Idaho their insurance will not cover weight loss surgery. When I change jobs they required St. Lukes because it is a Bariatric Center of Excellence. The seminar I attended the speaker was Dr. Korn. I choose Vertical Sleeve because LAPBANDS don’t seem to stay in forever and RNY did not remove the glands that produce the hunger hormone. The Dr. Korn and his staff are fantastic!!!! The pre-operation psych evaluation was ok, I have never done one before. The patents of Dr. Valentine that attend the cooking and group meetings all say he and his staff are fantastic.

My doctor said I was to use it twice a day for thirty days post surgery because I need had a BMI greater than fifty.

I'm half way through thirty days two times a day. I will be glad when I'm done!!!

Ok, on Friday 8/24/12 my doctor said it is ok to ride! My son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter can to visit and headed home today. So I went for a thirty mile. Fantastic! No problems!!!!!!

I got a ride in on August 14, 2012 and I got sleeved August 16, 2012. Doctor Korn and Bill his assistant said as soon as I am off of the pain meds and strong enough to hold up the bike I can ride. Right now it will be a few days as I am sore in the mid-section! I will post when I may the first one!!!

Ok it has been five days since I posted last, all is well. Surgery was at 2:45 pm on the 16 of August (Thursday) some discomfort the first night. The next morning (Friday) was much better I was taken to x-ray for the leak test all was good. The next test was to drink some water slowly. I got up and made my first lap around the sixth floor of St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise Idaho. I walked every hour and worked my way up four laps. Saturday I was ready to leave Dr. Korn came in and discharged me after all of my labs came in, in the hospital I was on clear liquids upon discharge I was allowed to start full liquids. When I got home I was ready to rest. Sunday I rested walked and went and visited friends. Today I feel great still sore in one spot but I doubt I will need any more pain meds. Thank you to all who post and help me to learn what to expect.

Thanks all, my bag is packed about to go to St. Luke's in Boise Idaho and Meet Dr. Korn.
