Incision Infected At Seven Weeks
ShouldBlittler replied to Swimmer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know, my son had a surgery when he was a baby... and when he was about 7 weeks out, we brought him back with what we feared was an infection. Turns out, it was just hairs growing out of follicles that had been displaced at the incision site. Looked infection-like, but that's what it was... -

After quickly losing a lot of your weight, how long did it take for your head to catch up with your body? How long until you realized... Hey! I'm not a fat person anymore! -

I would NOT wait to get pregnant. If you have any sort of challenges in conceiving at all, you could really regret it. -

I've never heard of a laser comb. What is it? -
I have not had surgery, and I must admit that I really never get that "full" feeling now. I could always eat more. I am afraid that this will persist even after surgery. What are your thoughts?

I Wish Someone Had Told Me....
ShouldBlittler replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny that you say that, I agree! My husband and I are doing this somewhat together (two month's difference in surgery dates). My husband went in for all of his appointments, flew through, no questions. (He's a police officer too.) I had been reading this site for about two weeks prior to my round of appointments. I had a page and a half of questions. My husband came to my appointments with me. He couldn't believe all of the information and questions I had. It IS such a helpful resource! Thanks all! -

Lol.... What will you say when you start dropping pounds like crazy?? -
Met with surgeon today. Got the results of all of the previous tests. Low in Iron (count was 15, normal between 25 and 150), Vitamin d, and b12. Need to see hematology as a result. EKG a little abnormal. Surgeon almost ignored it, but then decided to send me to a cardiac consult anyway. Little bit low oxygen saturation in blood. Need sleep study and pulmnologist. (sp?) High cholesterol (225). I have the endoscopy scheduled for March 6, with a tentative surgery date of 6/20. Any medical people out there? I have not had results like these and I'm kind of freaking out.... Am I ridiculous?

Nervous About Test Results
ShouldBlittler replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's mandatory after surgery? I thought the surgery and weight loss stopped the apnea. Also, I thought that after surgery you weren't allowed to use the machine because all of the forced air could cause a leak. No? -

This is what I am telling myself also. How did you find out about the sleep apnea? Was your pulse ox a little low, like mine? -
Nervous About Test Results
ShouldBlittler replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, Holly, this was pre-op testing. It is required. They took 14 vials of blood, chest x ray, total abdominal ultrasound, EKG, and blood gas test. This is standard with my surgeon Also, I had to attend a two hour nutrition class, and see a psychologist. I have the mandatory endoscopy scheduled. My surgeon said they need to have all information so they can have a safe surgery. Is everyone's pre-op testing more or less extensive than this? -
