So, has anyone noticed anything weird with their teeth and gums? I have terrible gums to begin with, but they seem to be receding even more than usual. I'm worried it's some sort of vitamin deficiency, though I do take my vitamins. I know I need to go to the dentist, which I haven't done in too long, and am doing that, but does anyone else have anything weird going on with their teeth and/or gums?

Anybody In Their 20's
alexeleni replied to myownjourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 27--getting old! But I am six months out. So, me too! Message me if you want to! -
Today is six months from surgery. I started at 234.5 pounds and, including pre-op weightloss (beginning January 3), have now lost 57.3 lbs. I feel like I should have done more!! I don't want to waste this and I expected to be proud and happy today, but now I am just sort of freaked out. Am I on the right track? HELP!

THANK YOU guys for the support!

I've had it too--any time your body is burning a lot of fuel it can cause bad breath!

I had a sip or two of wine about 6 weeks post sleeve, and a full drink (vodka cranberry) about 3 months post-sleeve, but I am not much of a drinker!

When Did You Try Salad?
alexeleni replied to AngieG0410's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I CAN eat salad and could starting about 2 months post-op, but I don't, because it makes me feel so full, and then because it is low in calories, I can't fit in enough cals later in the day. I eat a LOT of raw veggies, though, which don't bother me. The lettuce is the issue! -
Yay, congrats! That is fantastic!

Im 23 & About To Have Surgery In A Couple Days! :-)
alexeleni replied to bcullen1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just turned 27, and am four months out from surgery today. I think you'll be able to get back to work as you plan pretty well, especially if your job isn't very physical, assuming they do laproscopic surgery. I think we are so lucky to have this tool now...our skin will bounce back more easily, and we'll have so many good years ahead of us. I'm excited for us! -
So Completely Confused And At 9 Months Out!
alexeleni replied to Julie76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh my gosh, give the scale a break! I definitely do the same thing and I end up obsessing a lot, but different women carry different amounts of water weight at all different times. Don't worry--you're doing fantastically, clearly. -

alexeleni replied to Spirit Fire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh WOW I am totally looking forward to that one. I have always had big calves, so that would be amazing. I've never been able to wear boots, and I am a Texas transplant so I WANT SOME. YAY for you! -
Any Boston, Ma Gastric Sleevers Out There?
alexeleni replied to Tarada9's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm from Boston! I moved to JP in June and am always looking to meet new people--say hi sometime! -
Your body is probably experiencing the stall that a lot of people get at 2-3 weeks. Mine lasted about 10 days, some people's as much as six weeks. This is normal and ok, really. Make sure you're eating several times a day, and eat Protein first--vary your foods and keep walking! Most of all, be patient. It is going to happen. The stall right after you start is weird, but normal, I promise. Also, remember, you might have less to lose (or a different metabolism, or be a different age) from many you're seeing here, so you can't always directly compare. Chin up! You're doing great.

What I Really Want To Know About A Tummy Tuck
alexeleni replied to crosswind's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I think one is NEVER too old to do something that makes one like what is in the mirror. And I sincerely hope I won't feel old at 47! You could have fifty more wonderful years ahead, especially now that you've had surgery and are healthier. I agree with Lissa. Go for it! -
Congrats, that's amazing! GOOD WORK!

This is totally normal--I am in one too. I have lost 2 lbs since I bought new pants....but now they don't fit anymore, they're too big. Seriously, your body just got the heck beaten out of it unexpectedly, so it needs to recalibrate and figure stuff out, and it will periodically need to do that as you continue. Don't worry, you're doing great!

Hey, so for what it's worth, surgery does NOT mean giving up food. I struggled with some of the same issues, and the pre op was really hard, but I am able to tolerate small quantities of liquid with meals, small amounts of club soda, etc. And I could even eat a mini-scone now and then, if I liked mini-scones. It is possible to do this as a lifestyle change, not as something where it puts foods on the "never again" list. It's just that a lot of things are now on the "occasionally, in tiny quantities" list, but the good thing is I only want/can fit tiny quantities. Hang in there and ask lots of questions! This board is a great resource, and you'll find a variety of perspectives and experiences on all of these issues.

Me too, and I freaked out. But it is normal, don't worry.

Iranian Green Pepper Frittata With Chicken Sausage
alexeleni posted a topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
Confession: I have been super bad recently, although my weight loss is going fine, I am eating TOO MANY CARBS. I didn't want to do any kind of liquid cleanse, but I needed to get back to basics, so I am trying to be super low-carb for the next few weeks. Voila, eggs. Because eggs are delicious. (I like egg whites too, but in the amount I can fit into my stomach, the plain egg is fine.) I love to make frittata, which is pretty much like an omlette you can't screw up (and also I can't spell omlette). Usually I just do whatever's in the house, but I saw a recipe and had to try it. I adapted it by adding chicken sausage for an extra Protein boost, cutting the olive oil, etc. It is DELICIOUS and actually unlike anything else I've ever tasted because of the saffron. Also, it's such a pretty yellow color! Recipe here: http://savorysweetie.com/iranian-green-pepper-frittata-with-sausag/ -
When Did You Start Intense Workout After Surgery
alexeleni replied to Jennyg1987fw's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I was technically cleared to do anything at 6 weeks, but was told to focus heavily on cardio and building up fitness, and not worry as much about weights. -
True Misconception - Be Prepared!
alexeleni replied to topper12345's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been seeing a therapist and it helps--also, weirdly, that fact that I live someplace fairly new with not many friends helps. Few of these people knew me "before" so they don't see me as an "after"--they are just meeting the new me! That gives me a lot more confidence. -
I don't know about you guys, but I eat so much soup I get tired of it, especially in the first few weeks after surgery. And Passover just happened and I had the brilliant brainstorm....matzah balls forever. In ALL KINDS OF SOUP. They add a little heft, and while yes, they have carbs, you can also add protein powder, etc. And they're yummy and comforting without being greasy or gooey or too starchy. So, without further ado: Year-Round Matzah Balls! http://savorysweetie.com/year-round-matzah-balls/ they make me less tired of soup. I even tried them in tomato soup yesterday, and it was DELICIOUS.
