Starting Fertility Treatments
tjmom replied to CrisB83's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
congratulations! I am so happy for you and your husband. Healthy thoughts sent your way. -
lloydthumper : it does take a few days but so worth it. take small sips, not swallows, it helps. you might have posted this before but what is the follow up eating plan you are on? with my doctor there were certain types of food to eat for a week at a time...so it was 4 weeks before i was eating a "regular/normal" diet...but well worth the wait. Gave stomach some healing time. i am happy to slide over and make room for you on the losers bench... Welcome!!!

Is Sleeve Success Possible Without Exercise?
tjmom replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Due to all my "train wreck" issues , i started my process in a wheelchair, (motorized chair in house) for the past 4-5 years. I have had 2 back surgeries and am still in constant pain. I also have arthritis and doctors want to replace 1 hip and both knees. (already had joints in hand fused to try and stop the joint pain). I have asthma, diabetes and depression... so my weight is a contributing factor. I had the sleeve done on May 2, 2012... my diabetes is now controlled by diet only (i was taking 3 medicines daily).. I no longer use motorized chair in house and with the help of a walker, i am able to weed the flowerbeds for the first time in 15-20 years... do i exercise? not in the way most people do...but i am able to walk...cook meals...do laundry... All these things bring my heart rate up and make me sweat! So for me, they ARE exercise... I have gone from 294 to 244 (-50 lbs) and a total of -50 inches... Went from pant size 28 to 16 (stretch jeans) 18 (non-stretch) from top size 4-5x to 1x... so yes, you can lose weight without exercising... good luck -
i was almost bedridden ...i used a motorized chair in the house...wheelchairs when out and about..(if my husband talked me into going somewhere)... I always thought I was 5'5"....so when i went for my WLS consultation, that is what i told them... they weighted me 328 and told me my BMI was to high for laproscopy so I needed to lose weight before surgery if i didn't want a big scar... so i lost weight... at time of surgery i weighed 294...BMI 49... ok for laproscopic surgery.... *****update: during my sleep study assessment, they told me i am 5'3"... so technically my BMI was still to high ***** anyway: prior to surgery: Diabetes out of control (on 3 med with A1C still a 10)....almost bedridden ... wheelchairs or motorized chair...had housekeeper come in to clean and do laundry... since surgery: Diabetes A1C 6.6 with NO medication...(controlling with diet only) ... out of bed with husband in morning and NO naps.... NO motorized chair in house at all.... I do our cleaning and laundry.....I even weeded a flowerbed for the first time in 15-20 years ..(using walker for resting between pulling weeds) ... when i go shopping with him, i still use my wheelchair depending in how far we are going... never fear, in time i will be out of that also.. AND... have lost 50 pounds and a total of 50 inches! Doctor said because of diabetes I will lose slowly but we are happy with my results .......I use to wear size 26-28 (elastic waist) pants ...now...wear size 18 (zipper and button) jeans! AND... went from 5x to 2x tops!!! your sister can be helped! i give you permission to share my story with her... good luck to both of you!

Nsv... I Went From 5:45 Am To 5 Pm Without Using My Wheelchair...
tjmom replied to tjmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This weekend is going to be mind blowing for me. I asked my husband to take the motorized chair out of the house... I have found if I see it, I want to give in and use it. I don't need it. So bye bye chair!!! Another NSV : I pulled weeds for the first time in 15 - 20 years... I took my walker for stability walking on rocked driveway... So, put brakes on walker - stood up - walked to flower bed - pulled weeds - stood up - walked back to walker - sat down on walker - rested - drank some water I brought with me - moved walker - *** repeated for 3.5 hours *** Man that felt great! (I left the weeds on driveway and my husband picked them up and carted them away..) -

Nsv... I Went From 5:45 Am To 5 Pm Without Using My Wheelchair...
tjmom replied to tjmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
NSV Update ** I just wanted to let everyone know that I have gone a whole week WITHOUT using my wheelchair!!! I was having to use it after 7:30 - 8:00 pm but starting last week i decided it was time to take a stand... so as of last Monday ""no more wheelchair"" ... when i felt the nagging pains .... that use to make me get into my chair... I sat down on a chair or the couch for s few minutes... then got up and continued walking...I did have to buy some compression socks because of leg cramps... Next week, I will have my husband remove the motorized chair from the house... I gained weight (244 to 248) last week but I am to excited about not using the chair minutes, I don't care. Do you think maybe the weight gain is muscle?...((From all the walking)) -

The Most Embarrassing Fat Moment....
tjmom replied to Sannah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Strangely....OMG i almost pissed myself laughing when i read your post!!! Quick thinking... i saw a friend i have not seen since before surgery (she doesn't know about surgery)... she gives me a hug, holds me a arms length away and says... "something is different about you"... (i am positive she is going to say something about my weight loss... i have lost 50 lbs) ... she says: "i know what it is, you have a new haircut".... i felt so deflated ... my hair is just the same... but by then i was so dumbfounded i said "yea, you like it?".... why do i look to others for positive strokes?... Sannah don't feel defeated, you will get the MRI done and then your sleeve! You are taking the steps to take care of YOU! & your steps will pay off... ((saving you a spot on the losers bench)) -
i am adding you... i am Sandy0424 on MFP ..
