I haven't had surgery yet. But I have a friend who did. And she just people "cept me of course" that she had gallbladder surgery and after being on the soft diet so long, her appetite changed and she couldn't eat as much nor can she tolerate greasy fatty foods...and nobody has ever thought to question her again except to tell her how good she looks!!

@Mommie...u should call the surgeon to set an appt. The referral letter from your PCP is just one step in the process. Your surgeons office will be more aware of how to make it happen. What the steps are and what needs to happen next...

Yay!! I breastfed all of my kids for at least the first several weeks. One of mine didn't do well on the breast milk. But the 2 I breastfed for the longer periods are my 2 kids that get sick the least so good for u!!!

Ashleigh I think u are handling it right. U should do what u can and see if you can continue or not. Every body is different so you may adjust if you work hard at it. I have known women who were on low cal diets while breastfeeding and did fine. And others who stopped producing milk so you will just have to wait and see!

I am sorry that ur feeling scared and excited that u are having surgery!!

28 days till surgery and the devil is out to get me!! First, right as I was being submitted for approval, my husband got very sick and ended up being hospitalized for several days. Got through that..still waiting on a bill...then, I got approved but found out my hospital wants what's left of my deductible plus my entire OOP up frnt...not expecting that we hadn't saved that much yet as I was originally told by the registration dept I could put a downpayment down then make payments, I was apparantly told wrong ...but I decided to borrow from a family member...got thru that...this month is going to be tight but we can get it done...THEN... With no warning, my trucks brakes start grinding yesterday...no previous warning squeels or anything...LOL....yes I have to laugh...so now I have to see if the repair bill is going to be sky high...if it is, I might have to push back surgery a few more weeks...I just wonder why all this now? Everything was going so smoothly before!! Why me why now!?!? So, I am going to have Faith that Jesus will deliver for me and laugh...cause laughing keeps you young. Or, maybe I am just going nuts...not sure!! Pray for me if you will???

I was told not necessarily that I had to LOSE weight but that I couldn't gain any...or risk having surgery cancelled. I have lost about 7 lbs and I am not even pre op dieting yet...I had to do a diet class..the NUT weighed me that day and said not to gain any weight from there on...all I have been doing is cutting out soda and drinking unsweet non carbonated drinks like splenda in my unsweet tea instead of sugar...and that helped me lose the 7 lbs..I was drinking my calories a lot!!

I am so sorry that happened to you...and glad you are getting better.

Thanks guys!! @VSG I know what u mean...every time I hear one of my kids sniffle I give them the "stank eye" and pop a Vitamin C...Hahahah! @ Amanda...my husband is NOT very "handy" as far as house repairs or cars...I know WAY more about cars than he does..my ex husband was a mechanic so I learned LOTS from him..and we just moved to Beaumont, don't really have friends here yet...not any mechanic types anyway. But I trust the repair will be ok. If its under 400 we will be fine. Last time I asked hubby to do anything to a car was a complete disaster. We had an old van that I had just paid 600 bucks to redo the entire brake system on...hubby calls and says the steering is acting funny so I troubleshoot on the phone and tell him it needs power steering Fluid..no biggie...the next day he is broken down on the side of the road..our mechanic gets it and calls me up. My DH poured steering fluid in the brake fluid container...thus ruining the entire brake line and everything it touched along the way...another several hundred dollars later, I asked my sweet hunny to never touch the cars again without supervision...LOL. My husband was raised by his grand dad who's main "thing" was farming and his Mom, who didn't own a car most of the time. Nuff said...LOL

No they won't because its "elective surgery". That part worked out though. I was able to borrow from a family member what I couldn't come up with by the first and it will only take me about 2 mths to pay her back because we had already saved a lot of it. I am just worried about the brake repair at this point. That's the one thing that could force me to reschedule.

Get lots of rest these first couple days. Everybody says the first 3 days are the hardest...

Lol...every time my husband shaves I call him Babyface McGee...I don't like it!!!

Ya know it didn't dawn on me till the other day that my kids were thinking I was coming home from the hospital skinny till my 10 yr old asked me why I bought new sundresses to wear while I am healing the other day. She said "but Mom they won't fit after surgery when you are thin when you get home"....I guess I hadn't really explained my procedure all that well....I thought I had.

I am getting a Build A Bear. I heard those are good plus, I get to take my smaller kids to help me build and dress it. Getting them involved will help with their worries...

Awesome info! I am excited now. I am 5'3" and starting weight of 258. I am at 251 today. Since sticking with the NUT suggestions the past month or so. I hope to get down to 150...if I hit that goal 135 would be my maintaining weight.

That's good info! Thanks so much. Dr Dean does the drain for a week also. Good to know its not going to kill me...my mind thinks it is..LOL. I will be taking my receipt for payment in full with me to the hosp then as well. Glad they didn't delay you because of that. I would've been freaking out!! I did already have that one set of blood tests. I am scheduled for the pre-op tests on the 30th...I go see Dr Dean for the last time prior to surgery on the 24th. Do you feel the sleeve does what its supposed to? I have heard some people (not in Beaumont though) say they can feel the restriction...(feeling full fast) and I just want to make sure Dr Dean makes my sleeve small...ya know?

Its ok! I have never been a doormat but I try not to be rude to anyone. I kindly let her know she wasn't going to scold me or speak rudely to me and I didn't need her services... Well, I am curious if he finds one while he is doing the surgery if he will just fix it or what since I don't have to have an endoscopy either...not sure how that works.

Oh boy...I have Dr Dean...and he referred me to Dr Monk...after 2 weeks of trying to get in touch to schedule an appt, I called Dr Deans offc and they gave me her email. I sent her an email myself...a very nice one stressing the importance of getting the eval done as she was the only thing I was waiting on. Well, another week went by with no word so I went out and found someone on my own thru ins to do it. In the meantime, she called and got extremely RUDE with me about 3 weeks after I emailed her. Early in the morning too...so I had a few choice words for her. I come from Ft Worth. Only moved to Beaumont recently. And I have NEVER been spoken to that way by a doctor. So I was shocked, not too happy about it. And not very nice...I sure am glad I didn't have to be evaluated by her... Did either of you have hernias that had to be repaired? Did you have to do an endoscopy prior to surgery? Did the hosp require you to pay the out of pocket max up front??
