Ok, sdb originally asked if Medicare covered the "sleeve surgery". If by "sleeve surgery" you mean vertical sleeve gastrectomy, then no, Medicare does not cover it at this time. They do cover other WLSs. If you read this entire thread from the first post, then it will explain where Medicare is at in consideration of VSG.

Sdb, Medicare does cover other weight loss surgeries, but not Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. That's the big daddy that everyone's waiting for.

So, I remember always reading about and hearing from gastric bypass patients rejoicing about how much energy they have after WLS. Is the energy just as noticeable with VSG?

gingersnap~ you and I both are in the same anxious waiting game. I've signed myself up for a WLS program thru one of the hospitals here, but because Tricare doesn't cover VSG, I'll have to figure out what I want to do when I get to the end of pre-op. The other option, of course, is to just go thru a MTF. The MTF does have a program, but I honestly don't trust that hospital (which is the reason why I pay extra for Tricare Standard). I have been thru this particular civilian WLS program before, so I know what an AWESOME support system and healthcare I'll be receiving. I just don't know how I'd be able to afford it if I have to self pay.

Omg, I was JUST wondering about not being able to chug after surgery! I was chugging water today and realized that the wonderful feeling of chugging to quench my thirst will be non-existent someday soon.

Right, WLS means weight loss surgery. After noticing how many GB patients feel this great surge of energy right after surgery, my question is, do VSG patients feel that same surge? I'm asking this because I don't see it posted as often as I heart from GB patients. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the type of surgery or if it's just the individual person. *^__^
