Is Anyone Else Scheduled For August?

I just went to my last appointment today! Lucky for me, my sleep apnea is mild and when I called the pulmonologist to tell him that the cpap machine was a little expensive, he told me to just "screw it!" (yes, his exact words!). So, he wrote a letter to my surgeon stating I am cleared for surgery and that my sleep apnea was mild. Whoo hoo!

    Insurance Question...

I had the same question when I started my 6 month supervised diet. My starting BMI was 40.9 and I am now at 37.4. My surgery is scheduled for August 1st but I have more than two comorbidities. I checked with my doctor's office who contacted the insurance to see what weight they go by. Mine goes by your end weight but some go by your first weigh in. I would check with your insurance or Drs office.

  7. Wow! Congrats on the weight loss and a surgery date! I'm scheduled for 8/1 and I start my pre op diet 7/18. Super excited!
  8. I started my lap band journey almost 6 months ago and during my 6 months insurance required supervised diet I have lost almost 20lbs. Those I have told about my surgery keep asking me the same question "Are you still going to get the surgery?" "You don't need surgery." It's driving me crazy! Maybe I should have just kept my mouth shut but I am a pretty open person and it's hard to keep this a secret because I am so excited! Maybe some people just don't understand. I have been overweight my whole life and Yes, I have lost weight and gained it back but I want to keep it off and therefore, yes, I am going to have surgery! Whoo hoo! I just had to say it again! How much weight did you lose pre op? Did people think you were crazy to still want surgery? Just curious, yes I am going to have surgery!

Is Anyone Else Scheduled For August?

The agency that supplies the cpap called me yesterday to discuss payment after my insurance deductible and to set up a time for me to pick it up. Afterwards, I called my pulmonologist and told him that the cpap was a bit expensive, were there any alternatives? Basically, he was like "screw it" (exact words! He said your sleep apnea was mild anyway. Really? Anyways, I am super excited that I don't have to wear the cpap!

So Much Water I'm Floating Away

I remember a time when I didn't drink anything but diet coke and coffee. I have not had soda for almost a year and now I exclusively drink Water. Just cutting back slowly and replacing a few drinks a day can make a difference. I still have my morning coffee but seeing as though my surgery is 8/1, soon I will be giving that up and I think I can do it! I add lemon to my water sometimes but maybe lime might be good too. There are a lot of crystal light flavors you can try or milo. My son is diabetic so we've tried everything and I don't keep any sugared drinks or juices at home anymore. It will get easier! I actually now love water and choose it even when we go out to eat.

Is Anyone Else Scheduled For August?

Just found out my paperwork is being submitted today to the insurance company for approval. Hoping this part is painless! Crossing my fingers!

Is Anyone Else Scheduled For August?

Luckily, if I wear the cpap until my follow up visit on July 5th, the pulmonolgist will clear me for surgery and it shouldn't affect my August 1st date

Is Anyone Else Scheduled For August?

Yesterday I went to my follow up appointment after my sleep study. Apparently I have mild sleep apnea and need to wear a cpap. Ugh! I really don't want to but the pulmonolgist said he'll clear me for surgery when I see him July 5th if I wear it for 3-4hrs per night until then. Another bump in the road...

    Upset About Sleep Apnea!!

I just went for my follow up visit to discuss the results of my sleep studies. The first test was a home study called the apnea link which showed I had mild sleep apnea. Because of this I then had a lab sleep study with cpap. My pulmonologist wants me to get a cpap machine and use it for a few weeks. He will only clear me for surgery once I do this and said if all goes well when I see him July 5th he'll give me the okay. Ugh, another hurdle in my journey!

    Move Up My Date

I was told that all of my pre op testing had to be within 6 months of my surgery date, i.e., ekg, echo, nuclear stress test, etc.
  21. I am not banded yet but I asked my surgeon this question during one of my visits. I think it depends on the surgeon, he told me that he will give me a head start and put 3-4cc in at the time of my surgery.

    Consultation Today!!!!

Good luck! The six months definately goes by fast! I just had my 5th appointment, my pre op is 7/2 and my surgery is 8/1.

Over Weight Since Child Hood... Anyone Else?

I too have been overweight since childhood. I think the least amount I weighed in high school was 166. It may seem like a silly question but I was wondering if it's harder for someone to lose weight who has always been overweight compared to someone who was thin at one point?
  24. I thought the same thing! I started comparing what the machines tell me and what's on my fitness pal. For example, 30 minutes on the the bicycle (12-14 mph) says 399 calories burned on my fitness pal but the bike at the gym said 104.
