The band doesnt stop the bad ice cream and poor food selection. Ive eaten bad many times. Slow loser on count of it. Its just a tool to help. I know now that my diet and my meaning my intervention and self discipline still has to be a part of this. Yeah Ive sat and eat all the bad foods. Blizzards, pizza, on and on. For the last 2 months Ive gotten involved in a huge group from work that they paid for. Dietitians, trainers, weigh ins. Lost 16 Lbs in 6 weeks. Just the diet and exercise!

2ND FILL and EXTREMELY DEPRESSED
bobby_hamrick replied to sdpressl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After 6 years Im finally restricted well enough to see the real band in action. I came from 280-220 initially with all the other fills. Then began to gain to 240 again after 6 fills! The #7 though. Im in there. It took me a while like 5 weeks to learn what and how to eat again. So dont give up. They will tweak it in and it will work just fine. You'll see. I went from 241-225 in 5 weeks. Thats great for me. My exercise was cut in half initially while I relearned to eat. I just didnt have the energy to be burnin. Now Im back on my game in the gym and running with high expectations. Shoot a PM anytime you want to talk...Good luck. -
I recently had a fill (01/12/2010). Things have been good and bad since then. Ive lost 13 pounds which is good. My food intake however has been difficult. I have to be careful to get my water and enough nutrients to stay moving. I wanted to get some feedback from you all. When I wake up no matter when there is nothing going down. Water, juice, nothing for at least 2 hours after I awake. Normally then when I can drink I through down a good bit of water. Try to go at least a quart. Then Im ready to eat. Ive not been brave enough to try big food yet. I have done soups and some canned tuna which would indicate I could eat better. Rotisserie Chicken with soup. Later I can prep to eat again but sometime I just dont. Eating anywhere near bedtime is a no-no too. 3 Hours at least. Ive been banded for 6 years. Im ready and willing to really get this working for me cause I feel like Ive been playing around for years now. I did weigh in at 280 Im now 225. I feel as if Im too tite but plan to work with this until I get my goal weight of 170. 55 Lbs away. Anyone care to comment? Thanks

Good Job, come on in.... One question I'd ask the Doc. How many have you done. More than 100 I'd hope. 2nd I'd request no trainees are to be workin on me. It happens more than you think and its your money and body. Im not the one for training.... -
Regret Telling Friends ...

Not that big a deal to me but if I had my drathers i wouldnt have said anything, myself. -
What can I really expect from the surgery? Its not magic. You will have to work too. Many people feel they are done when its installed. Its a new beginning. Follow Dr instructions and 1-2 lbs a week avg. isnt unheard of for a while. how long were you in for? 1 Day Hospitals are not my fav place in the world. As like many I hate vomiting, so at all lengths I want to avoid it, what foods would you advice I stay away from? Everybody is different but its safe to say uhhhh pizza, hamburgers, Big lovely pastrami sandwiches, nuts, som eof my sacrifices but Im better for it. You'll find that each fill will change your diet. My last one took many foods away from the 8th fill I think. Now I think Im where I should be. good luck on your journey. Be calm. We have all been there and are okay...Feel grateful with your new diet...

six years out and having eating problems
bobby_hamrick replied to sjwilde's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Im 6 years in also with a recent fill thats really tite. like you Im very concerned now that Im not gettin enough for fuel. My workouts have putted out. Foods not appealing and soup is my mainstay. I need to lose a lot so Im working around it now. But man once I get to goal I may have to deflate. Im concerned but needed a fill. Fruit, berrys, steak, is a noway jose deal for me now. Lot of soft soup and protien shakes. Good luck. Hang in there. I think my body was in shock for a week. I was like really tired and mostly layed around but I picked up later.... -

Please help me!!!!
bobby_hamrick replied to DaniGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In one week I have lost 10 lbs. Is that average? It varies but yeah I have seen that happen. I have lost 6 in a week especially in the beginning. Which are the best vitamins to take and what dosage? I think they are over rated. I do supplement with Protein shake which has many goodies added. I do not take multi vitamins any more. What are the best supplements (calcium citrate or the other, etc) No comment Best chocolate protein drinks or powder without chalky taste? I really like six sense from wally world choc and vanilla shake. Next or equal is optimum nutrition protein powder same as above. Best tasting clear liquids protein drinks? Muscle Milk hands down. Any lotions or tricks to prevent saggy skin? No comment When will I feel normal again? Its been 6 years and this is normal for me now. I live with a smaller stomach and have to plan how and what I eat. Thats what we wanted though. Rite? Any good blogs or website that could be helpful now that I have the band? You are at the best in my opinion. Any other good tip you think I should know? Be very patient. Be careful especially now. Let yourself heal and follow the Dr. diet instructions to the letter or later you could have trouble. Except no embrace that things are different now and wow how good is it going to be this time next year....Good Luck.. -

Need help getting back on the wagon
bobby_hamrick replied to wrlove5683's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Im like above. I been banded since 03. When I went in for my recent fill. Like you 2010 is my year too! Its like what happened? I was honest. I like to eat and cook. Im very healthy and fit other than being obese. For now. So now I tell myself and it is different this time. Im ready. Other things in my life are worked out. It is my time. Why would I cheat myself out of all this work Ive done. Brother I have worked at it with exercise, band, and you know the ropes. We gotta think before we act and get it on in 2010. I have marathons planned, goals set, measurements taken. Its all down to the do. Thats where we come in at. My body, my hands loading up the jaw.....rite? You keep in touch and we will get on this thing together if you like... -
How do you get protein in w/o shakes????
bobby_hamrick replied to skinny31's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I gotta have the shakes! Meal replacement for breakfast, I have my own concoction like many and I have to have those nutrients... -
willing to travel? get on the phone. One mans junk is anothers treasure, someone will make this happen for you. There are more than your local folks available around here...
-
I started running immediately after banding. I began running marathons a year later. Ive been up to 25-30 miles a week and I have been able to maintain nutrient levels and hydration. I should add however I do not think I was restricted very well as I am now. I can feel some no a lot of phatigue lately running 12-16 miles a week with a new fill. I think I will adapt and over come. Ill get back to on it if you'll remind me via PM.....

Can you eat a whole burger when you have good restriction?
bobby_hamrick replied to zuly98's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After 6 years and as many fills I too could eat a burger or steak or whatever I set out to eat. I recently got back on the wagon...Got a fill I mean. Trust me You wont even think of trying the BK anything. They got me hooked up now. You be planning your food wisely, getting what you need from the food in the best fashion you can. Cant waste room on junk cause theres not enough room to waste. -
How long have you had your band and are you still happy?
bobby_hamrick replied to Beka's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I see Im in the low percentile. Im very happy with no complications. I have stretched my upper stomach above the band a little but no harm or pain. I wouldnt take anything for it. Id have it replaced if this one had to come out. -
After several years with comfortable diet after the band I did lose 60 lbs From 276-216. This was from 03-06. Went as low as 206 but didnt maintain. Life has more obstacles than diet . I blew out a disc in my back and boom I was down for 3 months and added 40 lbs. I only lost 20 of those back. Its taken me 2 years now 2010 since that back surgery to get the gumption for another fill. #7 I think. I think they have got it just rite this time and Im very optimistic about it. I never gave up my exercise program so I am very active there. Ive dropped 4 lbs in a week! Thats like starting over. I hope. I thought or had just fell out of touch with this problem Didnt finish what I started or gave up. The hamburgers and pizza are gone once again. This time i have a feeling for good. I weighed in at 240 and Ill follow up. I hope to be under 200 by May 25th my birthday. It looks as if that will be some sweat and problem but definitely attainable.:smile2:

I am launching a biggest loser challenge at work on April 1. All your ideas are appreciated. So far I am posting the worste take out like from favorite resturaunts. There is a 100 and 5o$ prize for the winners. We have a 2&5K marathon on April 26 which I have 10 dedicated memebers. It is my hope this will kick off with a bang. I have excluded myself from the money but not from leading this challenge. Come on, who knows more about this than us?
