I am starting my Pre-Op diet tomorrow. I have to drink two protein shakes a day and a have a low carb/high protein half portion lunch and dinner. I go the Atkins protein shakes. My doc said to stay away from Slim Fast and a few others.

It's confirmed!!!! My surgery will be on March 20th and Hiatal Hernia repair. I will be a March Bandster!

Wow - I think I can count myself lucky. My doctor's pre-op diet is note entirely liquid. It does require that you have plenty of protein. So two protein shakes a day and then a small lunch and dinner. Does anyone else have a non-liquid pre-op diet?

I have a HERNIA....I just had my EGD this morning. I am awaiting my surgery date. Woohoo!

OMG...just got back home from my EGD. It was absolutely painless and awesome. I went in there and they had me dress in a hospital gown, ugly hair cap thing and I got an IV. They gave me something to reduce stomach acid via my IV. Then the Anesthesiologist gave me a sedative via IV. I began to see blurry and was a little drugged by the time I was wheeled into the surgery room. The Anesthesiologist put something else in my IV and I was out like a light. I woke up and felt slightly groggy...but not even a sore throat. I am a little raspy....but eating lunch as I write this. Thanks for everyone's advice!

Has anyone tried the IsoPure protein liquid drinks at HEB? They also have protein Jello (23 grams per cup of protein) in the pharmacy section with no sugar or carbs. Not sure if that is allowed post or pre op. I think it says Collagen protein...is there any difference between that and whey protein? -
I might be a March Bandster! I have an EGD on March 6th. If I have hernia then my insurance will pay for almost half of the procedure making it possible for me to afford the rest. If I don't have a hernia...well let's not think negative thoughts!!! I think this is the first time that I am crossing my fingers for a minor health issue...lol

Good Deal...I hope you're right

Has anyone used True Results in Houston? I have a consult with them tomorrow morning. My insurance won't approve the surgery. However if there is an underlying condition (e.g. hiatal hernia)...they will cover almost all of it. I hate to say it...but I kind of hope I have a minor underlying condition that will qualify me...lol Oh well...wish me luck!

Thanks Alli....just finished my consult. I qualified for the in-house financing (which is easy to do) and I have to do fasting blood work in the morning and they will make the EGD appointment for me. If they find a hernia (crossing my fingers...lol) then I will just have to pay $5500 on payments for the next two years. Pretty cool. If no hernia...then cash price for the lap band is $9000 or so and they will still finance $5500 of it and I will have to come up for the rest...which will be hard. So everything is riding on that hernia!

Thanks Alli...did you just have the surgery this month? How long between your consult and EGD appt? I think they offer in-house financing on the remaining amount...or at least that is what the lady who spoke to me by phone said. She said it would be around $5500 extra. Did you have to pay out pocket for the EGD?
