I just finished my pre-op meeting and I don't know if I am happy or scared about how non-strict my surgeon is. I read all of the posts on here and I hear about 2 week pre-op liquid diets and the post of diets progression from Clear liquids to full liquids to mushies then solids. I was prepared for that when I went in today. However - instead I will be on clear liquids for 3 days then full liquids until I get back in for my pre-op with is 9 days after surgery. At that time the nurse said if there are no complications that she will put us on solids. Our pre-op diet with this surgeon is: 2 Protein shakes, and then a healthy lunch dinner with a requirement of 60-80 grams of protein a day and no carbonated beverages. I should be elated...but instead I am worried. I am assuming everyone else's surgeons has them on liquids for a long time for their stomach to heal...but not mine? So strange. A small part of me is disappointed because in some ways I want to be told that I cannot do what I have always done....it just seem a little lax. I would love to hear success stories of those who have had a lax surgeon ilke mine...it would make me feel much better BTW - I should mention that 48 hours before surgery I am on full liquids.

Toddy - sounds like my doctor. I will have my first fill in 3 weeks after surgery too. I have read some posts that say they can't have one for 6 weeks.

So strange....I wish there was a universal instruction book
-
I don't know if anyone else's doctor says this...but i just read in my instructions that I have to drink a warm drink every morning to cut down on mucus and stomach spasms..."forever" it says. Do you guys have the same instructions?

Okay - March Buddies!!! I have officially kicked Diet Coke! It was a major vice for me. I could literally go through 10-12 cans a day! I have changed to water/crystal light. I had coffee the first two days off of diet coke...and since my doctor doesn't care if we drink caffeine...I thought I would just turn to that. But I don't really crave it now and have not had caffeine for 3 days! I have drank more water in the last few days than I have had all year! So crazy!

Cool - you guys are doing great too...it makes me feel better that others are having the same experience. Gotta love these forums.

Support From You Signifigant Other?

Mine keeps saying "jokingly" that when I get skinny that I will leave. It know it is an insecure response and that the truth is often said in Jest. So every time he says that I tell him that I am the same person regardless of my size and on my feisty days I mention that I already get looks so if I wanted to leave I would have already... On a positive note...he has asked that I stock his lunch kit with healthier snacks....this journey is good for both of us. -
Hello Everyone! I am scheduled for Lapband surgery on March 20th. I have a pre-op meeting with the doctor tomorrow. I keep waiting for something to pop out and say it isn't going to happen...I have waited a long time for this and am keeping my fingers crossed.

Nawnee - I am having my surgery in Texas 3/20 as well. In Houston to be exact. Where are you having your surgery?
-
Neokal - I feel your pain. I will be banded on 3/20 and I keep having the same thoughts. What if it doesn't work. I think those thoughts are in my mind because of every other diet that i have tried and failed on. So although I know this is the right thing for me....I have that little bit of self doubt. But as my husband put it "this is a diet that you CAN'T give up on" and he is right. I normally start diets on Mondays and by Wednesday I am fizzing out. With the band as a tool...I won't be able to fizzle out quite as easy.
-
Harley - you are too funny. That is exactly what I would do.

Karma88...that is a good idea. I am going to create one too!

I Passed My 5 Day Ketosis Diet!!!!yehhhhh
dhales replied to jesska712002's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I didn't have to do a Ketosis diet....but I just had an Endoscopy. It was pretty painless. I went in to the surgery center, dress in an awesome gown and hairnet, and they put an IV in. Then the anesthesiologist came and asked questions. The nurse put something in my IV for stomach acid and the anesthesiologist put something in my IV to sedate me. I was a little sedated when I was wheeled into the surgery room. Then they put oxygen on me and the anesthesiologist put the more anesthesia in my IV. I was out like a light. I woke up and it was over. I went home within 2 hours of arriving. I ate light the rest of the day. My voice was raspy but no pain. honestly no pain until 2 days later where my jaw felt sore...no idea why. That's it...pretty easy! -
Cool...I am scheduled for March 20th at True Results Houston. The time is going by so slow!!!

I am drinking Adkins as well right now. It was suggested from my doctor and they really aren't too bad.

Did U Tell Or Not? If Not..what Was Your Story?
dhales replied to iriegirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have told my husband, kids and parents. I have already received a little negative feedback from my father saying what I hear a lot of other people on here complain about "can't you just do it then normal way?"...I guess I am afraid I will be judged by coworkers and extended family with more of the same comments. Some of the comments I have heard when I considered it years ago was "it's the easy way out". For those reasons I have elected to just tell those who ask...when they notice how awesome I look after loosing weight I have told my HR department that I need some days off for a hernia repair...which is true...half way. -

Not Enough Time For The 2 Week Post Diet.
dhales replied to JohannaMae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JohannaMae - My surgery is scheduled for March 20th as well. I was given a pre-op diet...but it isn't strict like everyone else's. I just have to drink two protein drinks a day and eat a healthy lunch and dinner...stay away from carbs. I started 2 days late as well. I think as long as you eat well in the time you have left you should be okay. Double check with your doc for peace of mind....but it sounds like protein is the key. -
Congratulations Steph!!! Let us know how you do.
-
My doctor is okay with caffeine - just can't have carbonated beverages!!! Day two of my pre-op and I am missing diet coke more than anything!

Houston True Results for their Lap band Surgery...
dhales replied to khughes330's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am using Dr. Wilkenfeld. I am scheduled for surgery March 20th. I have a pre-op with him on March 12th. I met him for my EGD and it went very well...he seemed very nice. -
I am having my EGD in the morning and I am curious as what to expect. Will I be feeling bad the rest of the day? Can you eat afterwards? Would love to hear how yours went. Thanks!
-
Ladies - thanks for the input. I will be having surgery on Tuesday and going back to work the next Monday. I so totally hope the combo of a hiatal hernia and lap band isn't more than I can handle...in terms of pain. The gas comments is the part that scares me. Do the Gas X strips work?

I'm getting banded on March 20th!!! Start Pre-Op on tomorrow.
