Surgery Yesterday.. Well Ten Hours Ago..
dhales replied to KAllison =)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just curious...do you know if they go in through your mouth to fix the hiatal hernia or do they do while they are placing the band in that area? I guess I should have asked the doc....but I was so happy that insurance would pay for half of the surgery because of the hernia that I neglected to ask. -
I asked that very same question...and i think it is natural since for most of us this isn't our first attempt at losing. I have tried just about every diet/gimmick out there and have failed. When I start to doubt I go on here and read the Lap Band Success stories and view the before and after pics and it motivates me and lets me know that this can really be done. It's not a gimmick it is a REAL medical procedure that is designed to help me loose weight... I think that going to a counselor or support group is a big part of the process for behavior modification as well. We can all do this...

What Kind And How Long Did You Take Pain Meds?
dhales replied to Brad P's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What about nausea meds? They prescribed me Phenergen gel that you put on your wrists for absorption...it seems kind of strange to absorb nausea meds through your wrists...anyone else have this? -
What Kind And How Long Did You Take Pain Meds?
dhales replied to Brad P's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am allergic to Vicodin and it's relations...so they gave me Ultram. I paid a compounding pharmacy to make it liquid...entire prescription with liquifying it cost $30 with insurance. Insurance is normally just $15 copay...but apparently they don't pay for squishing... 50mg every 4-6 hours as needed. -
Lucky girl! If we left the windows open in East Texas the mosquitos would eat us alive!

I have three dogs (2 rescue pugs and 1 Rottweiler), three children (14, 16 and 22). I am 36 years old and have been an Executive Assistant for about 15 years now. I am only 20 credits away from completing my Psychology Degree and hope to pursue my Masters at the end of this year. My husband is amazing but he doesn't do too well with change....I am working on that with him. I volunteer as a PAV at the local Woman's shelter. Basically a PAV is the woman's first contact with the center as it would require visiting the victim in the hospital right after physical assault or rape. Emotionally draining and rewarding. I also volunteer with our Pughearts rescue as that is where I got my two little pugs. It can be quite addicting. I enjoy reading...but not sure when the last time I was able to read a book for fun...I miss just chilling and reading a novel at night. Also addicted to HGTV....I gave up the Food Network as it makes me think about food way too much....lol Especially those cupcake wars!

After Surgery/going Back To Work
dhales replied to ☠carolinagirl☠'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having the surgery on April 3rd, Tuesday and going back the following Monday. I hope I will be fine by then. The Surgeon says that it will not be a problem...I am an executive assistant and it is mostly a sit down job. I would fear staying home longer because i know me and my bad habits. I always do well on diets when I am working...but when I am at home is when I get snacky. I guess in my case its true what they say about idle hands -
Thanks New Life - that is what I am thinking it is. I believe it will be fine.

Self Pay And Extra Insurance Through Doctor Office
dhales replied to c945105's topic in Insurance & Financing
Wow - I wish my doctor office had that....I would be interested if the price was affordable. That is my biggest fear since my insurance won't cover anything weight loss...I am sure they won't cover a revision if one is needed. -
Lol...that is so true!

Day After Lap Band Surgery
dhales replied to Brad P's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Idea...I paid a compound pharmacy to make my metformin and pain meds after surgery into liquid....but I didn't think about just grinding it myself. They aren't time release so I should be good. -
Thank you...I will update as soon as they let me know either way.
-
You are right...at least its not next week! I read on one of these posts that you have to take everything off...I wonder what happens in that case. Also - just wondering if loosing weight quickly will wreck havoc on TOM? Hadn't thought about that til now.

Day After Lap Band Surgery
dhales replied to Brad P's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been banded yet..but wondered who you are supposed to swallow pills if you can't gulp? -
Okay - against my own advice I did mention it to the doc's nurse and she said she didn't see any harm in having the mammogram and ultrasound done the week I am already off. Whew...I was worried they would postpone. The results are instant...however they have a stupid rule that they cannot give the results directly to the patient...but give them to the doctor. So my surgery is on 4/3, mammogram & ultrasound 4/5 and results 4/6. That will be a tough 24 hours....but i am sure the band will keep my mind off of it.

Good luck! Keep us posted of your progress and let us know how your doing when you can.

Thanks Jayeedee - its good to have some research behind it. So it's official...I will weigh daily if I want but only record once a week. Most likely Fridays.
-
I would love to hear about weighing habits from everyone. I am one of those people that weigh every morning and often get discouraged if I see an increase or if the scale doesn't move. I am thinking about asking my husband to hide my scale and just weigh at the doctor's office every month. I might go through withdrawals. What do you do?
-
thank you Ready...I am sure it will be okay. I'm still going forward with the surgery....looking forward to it.
-
Thanks guys...I am starting to see that I am not the only one who does this. Maybe I am normal after all
-
Woohooo!!!! Good deal!
-
Good Idea...then I can stay accountable as some of the other ladies suggested but only count the weekly weigh-in
