    Just curious...

I have cigna, they do not require the 6 month supervised either, I believe my surgeon said they use the weight from your initial weigh in at your first apt, I have been doing a one month supervised diet and am down below 40 bmi and my surgeon said not to worry Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

    Just curious...

I also thinks it depends on your surgeon, my surgeon used my "high" weight as well, because with all the dieting my BMI was a 39.2 Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App
  3. My husband and I are both in the process of getting prepped for the sleeve surgery. We went two weeks ago for our pre-op appointments including blood work, meeting with the NUT and the psych eval. We thought everything was good, but my husband received a letter today that his Vitamin D levels came back really low and he needs to take a special prescription for 3 months and go back to get retested. He's now freaking out that they may postpone his surgery because of this, the surgeon was hoping for a July date for him and an August date for me. We have another appointment on the 16th which is when we are going to go over surgery dates, but didn't know if anyone had any experience with this? Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

    Vitamin D levels low

Thank you so much for your responses! Definitely eased his mind, I really appreciate it! Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App
  5. I am in MA as well, looking forward to getting my sleeve in July or August at Newton Wellesley hospital ???? Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App
  6. I haven't had my sleeve surgery yet, but I have 2 gastric band surgeries, I brought my pillow and some comfy pajamas, I couldn't wait to get out of that hospital gown! Other than the usual toiletries(hairbrush, toothbrush), i brought a few other things(iPad, books) but didn't end up using any of them, mostly slept, sat with visitors and watched tv...lol Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App
  7. I was banded back in 2012, initially lost 60lbs, then had a slip and gained 40 back. Just started the process of getting my band removed/revised into the sleeve. My surgeon said the following senerios could happen, 1. I have my band removed and my stomach is in good enough condition he can do the sleeve in the same surgery.....but because I've already had 2 gastric surgeries I could be faced with the following: too much scar tissue resulting in having to choose between 2 surgeries one for the band removal then waiting a month and getting the sleeve OR he can do one surgery and getting the bypass instead, I guess the bypass is easier and safer to do with a lot of scar tissue. And I have to choose before the surgery so he knows what to do. Any thoughts?? Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App
  8. My husband and I are both getting the sleeve, my surgeon said they have to be a month apart (because of our 2 yr old) so my husband is getting his in July and mine will most likely be august but we won't be talking dates until our next apt on June 17th Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

    March Bandsters!

Hello all I just wanted to give an update, I was banded 3/6/12 and had (up until this am) 8.5cc in a 14cc band. I was having great restiriction and was in my "green zone" When I weighed in this AM i was officially at the 50lbs down mark! Unfortunatly I also got the news this AM that I have a slipped band I got stuck on a grilled cheese sand last night (only had about 2 - 3 small bites. Then proceeded to throw up a few times before heading to bed. I knew something wasn't right because I had a weird pain around my port area that I have never experienced before, I figured I would sleep it off and call the Dr in the AM if I didn't feel better. Well sure enough this AM I couldn't even keep fliuds down, got to the Drs at 9, he drained my band and had me do a barium swallow, and it had slipped! I now have my revision scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10am. Another night in the hosp and I have to start the whole slow process of getting back to my green zone. I now wish I had called the Dr right away and not "slept on it" I might have been able to avoid surgery! I hope you all are doing well, and wish me luck tomorrow!!

What To Do W/ My Pets?

I also have two small dogs. When I was banded 2 months ago one is was 8 months and 4 lbs, the other was 4 months and 6 lbs. They were very rambunctious (still are!) and required a lot of taking out side (we live on the second floor and we were still potty training!) The first few days were a bit difficult, I did have one instance where I was jumped on, but it only happened once, and while it hurt it wasn't unbearable! The hardest part was bending down to pick them up and put them down, the pillow idea is awesome, and just taking it slow and putting pressure on my port incision is how I did it! I loved being home with them everyday, they kept me company and gave me an excuse to get outside, I think it really helped speed up my healing Good Luck in whatever you decide and on your new journey!

    March Bandsters!

I can't help but weigh myself every other day, my husband keeps telling me he's going to hide the scale! I think once a week is perfect, but my self control isn't very good!
  13. I had my surgery march 6th, my surgeon used staples to keep my incisions closed and let me tell you boy do they itch!! I was told by him that this is normal and actually a good thing because it means I'm healing. I can put bacitration on them as well to alleviate some of the itching, but only in the morning and at night!
  14. My dr told me I can have anything that can go in a blender/food processor when I hit my puree stage which starts Monday! Woohoo!
  15. Congrats! That's awesome, can't wait to be there myself!!

    March Bandsters!

Hi all! So sorry I have been MIA for the past week, I was banded March 6th. The first days were a bit rough, I was having a lot of gas and nausea. But I will say every day gets better and better. My doc has me on 2 weeks post op full liquids. I will admit I am getting really tired of liquids at this point and can't wait to move on to mushies monday! I also had staples put in to keep my incisions closed and they come out monday as well! They are super itchy and I know thats a good sign because it means they are healing I am also happy to say that since I started my pre-op diet I have officially lost 24 lbs (according to the scale this morning!) I still have a slight soreness on my left side (port site) but other than that none of my incisions hurt anymore and I do not have any gas or nausea anymore! Last night I was able to sleep on my right side (not my port side) for the first time, which was amazing because I am usually a side sleeper! I am just starting to get a bit of my hunger back, my surgeon left my band completly empty for healing and will get my first fill at 6 weeks post -op, not looking forward to getting hungry again! So far it only takes a little to get me full, but everyday I am getting a little hungrier faster, so I know "bandster hell" is on its way! lol Just wanted to give everyone a little update, Good Luck to all with upcoming surgerys and hope everyone already banded are healing up and losing weight! lol!

    March Bandsters!

Another update for those interested - I had an uneventful night, the nurses checked on me and roomie (who also got the lap band) several times and gave us anti nausea and anti inflammatory medicines (all through the IV) This morning we were taken off the IV (and pain meds...eeek) around 7am. We then went down to x-ray to to the barium swallow, which wasn't too bad he only made us take 2 sips (and it was very cold so didn't taste too bad) Our surgeon Dr Adam Glasgow came to our room, explained everything went fine, our x-rays showed everything looked great and was flowing through the band with no problem. He also put us both on stage 3 (full liquids) when we get home because he did not fill our bands at all. I have an apt in two weeks to get my staples out (yes staples!) My husband picked me up at the hospital at 10am, I am finally home! Right now the incisions/staples are a little sore so I just took my prescribed medicine from the Dr (a liquid medicine called roxicet) and have a heating pad on my tummy, so far still no gas pains (woo hoo...knock on wood) and am currently drinking a no sugar added carnation instant breakfast to try and get some much needed protein. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask, I'm an open book!

    March Bandsters!

My doctor makes us stay overnight for observation , so I will be here untill tomorrow , but I am lucky because my roommate also got banded today so we are swapping stories still not much pain, more like a soreness now, like I did 100 crunches yesterday! No gas pain either yet (crossing fingers) I hope its not to bad when it settles in cuz I heard that's the worst!

    March Bandsters!

Hey guys I am here for my update, I got to the hosp around 7am, we checked in and sat in the waiting for about a half an hour. Then the nurse came to get me and had me change into my gown and take a pee test(for possible pregnancy, they say they require this of all patients of child bearing age). They asked me a ton of questions then hooked up the IV, and brought my husband back to wait with me. The doctor came out to see how I was doing and gave me a pill to help me relax and then we had to wait about another 1/2 hr. This was prob the worst part of the day cuz I was anxious and freezing from the IV!! Around 8:30 I said by to my hubby and they rolled me into the OR, they put something in my IV and the next thing I new I was waking up in recovery and it was 10:30, I was in and out for the next hour, but at 11:30 they got me up to check my incisions and bring me to the bathroom (cuz I rreaallly had to pee), at 12 they wheeled me to my hosp room (where I am now) I met my nurse and she helped me change into my pjs (so happy about that) and had me walk around the hallways while she asked me a ton of questions and then gave me ice chips!! My mouth is sooo dry so this is soooo amazing! The pain in very mimimal, maybe a one or two, but I do have a morphine drip I can press the button whenever I start feeling pain, so that is prob why I'm doing so well! No gas pains and all in all am soooo happy its over and I get to startt this amazing new journey! Sorry so long winded, if you have any questions feel free to ask, I'm my mysel

    Lap Band Vs Gastric Bypass

What it really came down to for me was not having my whole insides rearranged. I have friends and family who have had both procedures(and been very successful with both) but.... for me the Lap Band is so much less invasive, less healing time and fully reversible. Also I found it be a more slow/gradual process of losing the weight (which in my mind is healthier...lol) But really all in all I was just very uncomfortable with the idea of stapling and rerouting my stomach and intestines...it kinda freaked me out..lol!! Hope this helps and I'm sure no matter what you decide it will be the best for you!!
  22. I am going back to work after a week(being banded 3/6) because I sit behind a desk in an office and do not have to anything very labor intensive. My husband is getting banded 3/29 and he was told he needs to take at least 2 weeks because he is on the road all day delivering and lifting medical equipment (hosp beds, oxygen concentrations, wheelchairs, etc). So it kinda all depends on what ur job is like, if you spend a lot of time on your feet or lifting things you might want to take some extra time off.

    Loose Skin In Your 20's!

I spoke to my Dr about this because I am being banded march 6th and really nervous about loose skin too! He gave me some tips, exercising/weight training helps, he also said to exfoliate 2-3 times per week because it stimulates your skin growth and regeneration and lastly he said to lotion up daily to keep your skin hydrated. I am planning on doing all three to try to avoid as much saggy skin as possible! Hope this helps!
  24. Thats horrible! My sureons office made me call my insurance company (BCBS of MA) to ask them 3 specific questions before i even met with the surgeon. 1) is weight loss surgery covered under my plan 2) are there any employer exclusions for this type of surgery and 3) If there are going to be any additonal amounts/payments due for a hospital stay (one night stay). It turns out that the doctors office had a few situations were people insurances denied because there employer had a weight loss exclusion on there plan (would never cover it for any reason) and other people had additional $1000 costs for the hospital stay (that they were very upset about) so now they make every patient call and ask those questions before you can schedule anything! Smart on there part! It would be nice if they all did this so these type of situations would be avoided , I hope everything works out for you
  25. My surgery is a week from today and I have been waking up with a stuffy nose as well, I think mine is allergies (its that time of year) i'm going to be safe and drink some emergen-c (vitamin c supplement) and take some allergy medicine and hopefully that will clear it right up!!
