Exercise Exercise Exercise
hedder14 replied to BOB052212's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do agree that we must excercise. Walk, ride a bike, swim, do stuff at home like a ball, wts, treadmill, rope, wii, any excercise video you think you might like.. Just move!!!!!! I don't go to the gym I have a treadmill and I do different levels each time I use it.. It changes things up for me.. I also use a rope, wts, I have a malibu pilates machine which I love. I have several different work out videos and a excercise ball.. I also do crunches, squats, push ups, etc.. So no need to go to a gym, just reminder to move!! -
I eat veggies, some very limited fruit and Protein ( which is chicken, fish, cottage cheese and ww string cheese is my usual snack ) I drink two Protein shakes a day, which dr say's I can cut back to 1 but I haven't yet.. I also drink between 120 to 160 oz's of fluids a day that includes my protein shakes. I eat between 500 to 700 calories a day and feel pretty full most of the time.. I do sometimes feel hungry, but I think that's mostly at night watching all those tv commericals with pizza, etc playing..

Has The Band Actually Worked For You?
hedder14 replied to OldMomOf3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. How long have you been banded? I was banded on 2/08/12, so almost 4 months.. 2. How much weight did want to lose? around 119 This is from my heaviest from my surgery 105 3. How much weight have you lost? from my heaviest I've lost 76 from my surgery I've lost 62 4. How happy are you that you have been banded: Scale of 1-10 (1 being regretful, 10 being elated) 10n very happy!, I've been very lucky with the band .. I've had no problems so far with the band. I only have 2.5 cc in the band so I have plenty of wiggly room and I feel great.. I use the band as a tool, I don't expect the band to do all the work, I just expect it to help a little but I know must of the work has to come from me.. -
February Bandsters?
hedder14 replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Saw my dr/p.a today and NO fill needed.. So right now I have 2.5 cc in my band and don't need to go back now until Sept.. She said if I need anything or if I feel like I need a fill to go ahead and come in, if not see you in Sept.. I lost 20 since my last visit, which was on the 20th of april.. So my totals so far are 71 pounds from my heaviest which was in Nov and 57 pounds from my surgery.. I have noticed that my wt was slow coming off at the beginning but really has moved quite fast these last few weeks.. I'm sure in a few more weeks it will slow down again, so we will see. My advice to ppl, is just don't give up.. If you do what your dr's tell you to do, the weight will come off.. Just eat right and excercise!! I have not gone off track once.. I eat my portion size and no more.. I excercise 1 hour 6 day's a week.. When I feel hungry, I move, go outside, read, take a bath, brush my teeth, do anything other then focusing on my stomach and before I know it it's meal time.. I really don't have very many of those day's thanks goodness!!! Wishing you all much success!! -
My dr. has me on the 30/30 rule.. Not drinking 30 before or after a meal.. I did find it hard at first, because I'm a huge drinker.. I drink a lot always have... I count the seconds until I can have a drink, but it is getting easier to deal with so I guess with time you just get used to it..
-
I eat between 560 and 700 calories a day.. My wt has been coming off fine.. I can go 5 to 6 day's with the same wt, then on day 6 or 7 the wt will start falling again.. My dr. told me to stay between 700 to 900 calories a day so I pretty much stay around 600 because I don't count the calories in my drinks like crystal light, etc. so I add another 100 for that,so I'm right where they want me to be.. Dairy can have a lot of sugar in it, so that might be why he told you stay away.. I eat cottage cheese but it's the lactose free kind. I do have skim milk for my tea, but that's the only time I have it and it's just one cup. I would ask him why he doesn't want you to eat dairy?? seems a bit strange..

Great job and congrats! -
I finally made it into onederland.. I haven't seen that for years like over 25 years to be exact.. I just stood on the scale for a really long time looking at it.. I have lost since my surgery which was Feb 8th 2012 = 51 pounds and a totally of 65 pounds from my heaviest, unreal!! I still have a long way to go but I'm getting there.. I don't have any restrictions, I can chew fine, drink fine, but I stick to my portion sizes and do exactly what my dr tells me and it's been working.. Very Very Happy!!! and on we go...
-
Excercise is a must for me, I can't lose without it.. I try and do 6 day's a week on the treadmill. I do different levels and do 2 programs a day.. I also have a malibu pilates machine which I do everyday, and crunches, push ups, wts..

yes"! it's no drinking 30 mins before or after a meal.. each dr. is it's seems is a bit different how how many mins after, but mine says' no fluids 30 mins before a meal and no fluids 30 after.. One of the biggest thing I've learned from my dr and p.a is not to rely on my band so much.. Yes! it's a tool and it's there to help, but the band can't do it all.. I stop eating weather I feel full or not, I stop when my portions are eating.. I can eat normal, I don't need to chew chew chew, or take sips with my drinks, but I also don't feel hungry after.. IT's not to say at times I don't get hungry, I do.. But I've learned that if I eat my 1/2 cup of food ( which sometimes I feel I could get more ) move away from the table, wait 30 mins take a drink I usually feel satisfied and I can wait unilt my next meal.. I don't want to rely on the band to make me stop eating.. I want to stop eating, I need to stop eating....

My general rule for measuring is... Protein I do with oz's so I have 2 oz's of protein and I measure out with a 1/4 cup my veggies and salads.. If i put on the scale salad to 2 oz's it's way to much food so I just use 1/4cup for that.. Fruit depends on what I'm measuring. If it's strawberries, blueberries, or any berries I use the 1/4 cup. If it's any kind of melon I use the scale and measure those in oz's.. I eat 1/2 cup of good per meal so I just try and stick to 2 oz's of protien and 1/4 cup of veggies or salad.. I don't measure at any liquids that I drink because I can have as much of that as I want.. I have no limits on liquids, I just need to follow the 30/30 rule..

From the understanding I got from my dr about carbonated drinks was. It not about having problems drinking it, it's over time ( 3 to 5 years ) the band might corrode.. It doesn't mean it will just that you have a higher % that it will if you drink a lot of carbonated drinks..
-
My dr. told me No carbonated drinks because it can erode the band..

How Much Are You Exercising??
hedder14 replied to Bamabander's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started walking around the hospital my first day out of surgery, then when I got home I did it around my house, then moved outside, and just slowly went further and further, now I do 1 hour on the treadmill 6 days a week. I also do squats, crunches, push ups, and use my malibu pilates machine everyday.. I feel so much better, but have to say I hate it, but it has to be done so I do it... -
My dietician never really got into carbs with me,except the No bread, pasta, rice, sugars thing... I eat 1/2 cup of food per meal so by the time I do my protein and veggies I don't have room for anything else. Breakfast is the only meal I differ with, I usually have 1/4 cup of strawberries and 1/4 cup of cottage cheese.. I have 1/2 cup of watermelon for my night time snack.. I usually have either that or w/w string cheese.. I wouldn't be eating the snack if it wasn't for the fact that I need more calories, so it works out well for me because I'm having something every 2 hours and I stop at 8pm.. Anyway, my dietician did say that beans and oatmeal are ok, but I don't don't eat them, because they are high in carbs and they raise my blood sugar, which I've had under control and don't want them going up.. I've come off of 2 of my 3 diabetic meds and working on coming off the last one so I find a low carb diet really works for me on so many levels...
-
I'm also doing low carbs.. I do eat some fruit. Mostly strawberries and watermelon right now.. I only eat 1/4 cup of strawberries and 1/2 cup of watermelon.. I have not eating any bread, pasta, rice, crackers, sugars, of any kind since Jan.. It's totally worked for me.. I just eat protein, veggies and very limited fruit.. I feel good, I have also noticed that I am not bloated with a very low carb diet.. I don't know it that gluten or what, but I do feel so much better eating a low carb diet then when I eat carbs.. Not to say I don't miss it, because I do, but I just look at it as I'm allergic and it seems to take away the need for it..
-
My dr. and dietician told me, no bread, Pasta, rice, sugars, period.. I can have carbs in fruits and veggies but that's really about it.. I haven't really missed any of them.. It does make it harder when you go out to eat, but I've found I can usually find something that I can eat.. It's true everyone is different, but I would listen to what your dr. tells you to do..
-
My dr. told me, No bread of any kind, pasta, rice, or sugars.. It's not that you can't eat them but it's the carbs and calories.. I haven't had any and don't really miss it. I use lettuce for bread, I use tofu noodles or mushroom noodles, and I just don't eat rice or sugars.. I was told this is life change and I have to change old habits for new and good ones... If you eat everything you did before you were banded then your chances of over eating, having higher cravings for bad food, and not losing wt can happen.. Everyone has to find what works for them..

How Does Your Surgeon Feel About The Band?
hedder14 replied to lovex5's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My dr. was great! He sat me down went over all the different kinds of procedures and discussed the pros and cons of each. He never lead me to one over the other.. He told me after 5 yrs the all come out to average the same wt loss, so losing wasn't really the issue because they all come out to about the same.. He and my P.A said the biggest mistake ppl make with the band is they rely to much on it, think they get the band and the wt will fall off. It doesn't work that way, not even with the other surguries either. You have to work with it. The band will not make you excercise, it will not make you eat the rt foods, it won't even make you use portion control ( because some ppl with eat even when they are full ) you have to do those things and if you are not committed to it, it's not going to work.. It truly is a life change -
I just had a fill yesterday, just .5cc and I felt a little nausated yesterday, but today doing better. My first fill I had 1.5cc put in and the nausea lasted about 3 days then went away.. My P.A only requires 24 hours of liquids after fills so I stick with that and move slowly into foods..
-
My dietician told me between 700 and 900 calories per day for me.. I've been staying pretty much around 600 calories.. Now with that said, I don't count the calories from things like crystal light, olive oil, etc. So I add an extra 100 calories for those; so I'm right around 700 per day and that's with 2 protein shakes per day..

Feeling Full Vs Stopping Eating Vs Satisfied... When Are You Done?
hedder14 replied to Trinity's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let me clarify... I eat 3 meals a day four hours apart. I drink 2 protein shakes in between lunch and the dinner meal. ( so I'm actually having something every 2 hours ) I also been having w/w string cheese stick at 8pm due to not getting enough calories in ( never thought I would say that ). -
Feeling Full Vs Stopping Eating Vs Satisfied... When Are You Done?
hedder14 replied to Trinity's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't eat until I'm full.. I eat 1/2 cup of food per meal and that's it, weather I'm full or not... Most of the time ( about 95% of time ) it is enough for me.. I notice when I eat 1/2 cup, move away from the table, I really am full.. I use small appetizer plates and forks which makes my food look huge on the plate.. I eat every 4 hours with protein shakes inbetween..
