Hey everyone! Haven't posted in a while.....banded with Plication on 3/20/2012. Down 21 lbs since beginning preop diet. I saw doctor this week, and was hoping for a fill. He actually removed 2 cc from my band. I have had some trouble with some food not going down causing a little vomiting. He wants to see if it was the band, or if I was just taking too big of a bite or eating too fast. I feel that it is the latter. Since the 2 cc removed, I feel like I am eating a lot more.......think I may call him and beg him to put the 2 cc back in!

there are risks involved with any surgery, and yes death is one of those risks. Your doctor will explain the risks and benefits..........they have to explain anything that can possibly happen. The risk with this surgery is very small, though. You are the one who will ultimately have to make the decision. I am sure your family/friends are just worried about you-- I had one who was very negative about me having the surgery! Go with what your heart and your head tell you! Good luck!

the plication is an additional procedure. The doctor folds the stomach in and sutures it, making a smaller stomach. similar to the gastric sleeve, but stomach is not cut or removed.

question for you! I am having some pain at my port site. Can feel it under my skin--feels like a small egg! lol! Was planning to start walking tonight, but it causes pain when I move. Also hurts to laugh, sneeze, cough, or lie down with my legs out straight!! Anyone else experiencing this?

I had band with plication on 3/20/2012. I have done well, but I am soooo hungry! Cory, what is your preop diet? Mine was supposed to be clears for the first 7 days. Only 1 ounce every 30 minutes while awake. Days 8-15 are able to add some thinned out oatmeal, yogurt, etc. I have cheated a little bit-- I ate some chicken breast tonight. I just chewed really well and took very small bites. I am having some pain in my port site. I can feel it under my skin-- feels like a small egg. Planning on starting a walking program today, but it really hurts when I move in a certain direction. Also hurts when I cough, sneeze, laugh, or lie down with my legs out straight. I know tht sounds crazy. Will see my doctor a week from today. Hope I have lost some!!

Lots of bands done on the 20th!! Seems like everyone has a different postop diet--I guess each physician/nutritionist have their own way of introducing foods. I was Clear liquids, 1 ounce every hour until today (although I did advance a little earlier). Full liquids, 2 ounces every hour with mushies--yogurt, thinned oatmeal, thinned grits for the next week, then I return to his office for specific diet. Good luck to everyone! Anyone had the band with plication? I did on 3/20/2012 and am doing well! Having some belly growling--it's like my stomach is telling me I am hungry but my brain doesn't think I am all that hungry (although I do feel I could eat). I am on clears-- one ounce every 30 minutes while awake. I feel like I can drink more than that, and have at times. My dietician said I could stretch the pouch. Anyone dealing with this?

What was your diet for the first week or two? How long did you stay on clears? Good luck to you, and great job on the 12 lbs!

Has anyone had the gastric plication along with their lapband? I had the band, plication, and hernia repair on 3/20/2012. I am doing great! Went to work for a while today. Not having too much trouble with gas, but my stomach is growling and I feel kind of hungry (in my belly, not my brain!). My dietician has me only taking 1 oz clears every 30 min while awake. I have been going over this amount sometime to keep my stomach quiet! She says I will stretch my pouch out........anybody else dealing with this?

I was banded today and told to resume a couple of my medications-- they are both tablets. One is small, so it was no problem swallowing. The other is quire large, and I felt a little pain when it went down! It is time released, so cutting it in half is not an option. Wondering if it is stuck in there.....how will I know? Will I throw it up? Help!

Hey Everyone! I had my band with gastric plication (and hiatal hernia repair) today. So far, so good.......sore at incision sites, some mild gas pains, but feel extremely bloated!! Was in surgery about an hour and a half. Recovered in recovery room and back to Day Surg. Dr. Came by and said I could go home around 2pm! We live about an hour from the surg center and weather was bad. So glad to have this behind me, but anxious to see what the next few weeks, months hold! Good luck everyone!!

My band is set for March 20!! Doing the preop diet, which hasn't really been bad until today. I am starving!! My question is: Should I do the plication with the lapband? My surgeon seems to recommend it, but it is an "investigational" procedure and insurane does not cover. It would be around $750 additional for this. I am all for it if it will help with my weight loss and compliance with diet. What are your thoughts? Thanks!!

I too will be banded on 3/20! I started my one week liquid diet on Tuesday.......I did find Tuesday and Wednesday, but am pretty hungry today! I had my EGD done yesterday and everything was fine, except a small 1 mm hiatal hernia. Will decide if it needs to be fixed when he gets in there. What are you doing to prep?

How does the protien water additive taste? I would think it would be kind of thick and leave a bad taste in your mouth! lol!!

I have BCBS of PA, managed by Independence Administrators, but precert authorization for surgery goes through Amerihealth Adminstrators? Any one have any experience with this? Doesn't seem that they want a whole lot of jumping through hoops.....

is this the Amerihealth administrators that serves as a precertification departent for another insurance? I have BCBS of PA, which is managed by Independence administrators, but Amerihealth does the precerts for surgery. Have you heard anything from yours?

I am BMI of around 36 but have comorbidities of HTN, DM, and sleep apnea.......would love to talk to hear from some others that are going down the same path getting approved.

I am scheduled for March 20....it has been a pretty easy process so far, hoping no kinks. Surgery consult last week, insurance BCBS PA said all they needed from me was nutritional consult and psych eval which I will do next week. Insurance coordinator says it sounds like that is all they will require. I am BMI only slightly above 35, but have high blood pressure, diabetes, and sleep apnea.
