LIke you,, im wondering about pre op diets. Ive been having about two glasses of red wine a night on average, some nights ive had more. one of the traps id gotten into, it helped me to forget the huge mountain that i had to climb regarding my health and my weight..lol. not funny really though. im wondering now though about the size of my liver. does anyone know?? can they tell if the liver is enlarged at all by external examination? judych

... goodness me.. thats rough. Have you got a history of heart problems?? my b/p is high, so the op does concern me. having the anaesthesia does anyway.

..it was a big thing to fly out that far. im so glad that you were able to appreciate the scenery and the nice weather though. Its really good to hear that you are coming along so well. i dont know if i would be able to manage it like you did... hopefully i wont have to consider flying anywhere to have it done. I havent even seen my specialist yet and im really nervous about it already. i know that he will go ahead with it, my joints are a major issue right now. plus my window of opportunity is slipping away to have it done as im going on 66. im looking forward to hearing more and more about how you are. do you keep a blog? what about private email even?? im drawing a lot of support from you and the others here. im going to need all the support i can get im thinking. my family dont know im having it done, only my husband.

Finding The Lap Band Green Zone
judych replied to Alex Brecher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
.... this is interesting and im in this catagory . i have two knee replacements, up to 18 surgeries on my knees from teenage years and now bad feet and hips as well. So... how does one exercise when their hips are locking and their feet are so bad?? this is something im pondering on. im hoping to have banding done in the next 8 weeks or so. im having the procedure done because of arthritis. one good thing, i dont take anti inflammatories. im wanting to change my diet from an acidic one to an alkaline one. i know that Barley green is a marvellous food that helps an acidic system return to its natural alkaline state. This is significant in easing arthritis. i will be having this as a significant part of my diet when im done. i hope that you are able to get past the meds. and find relief some other way. Perhaps an alkaline diet would do it for you as well?? judych -
..What wonderful news.. and now thats over. all you have shared is very interesting. thanks for telling us about napping sitting up in the chair with pillows if its necessary for comfort. Also.. i didnt realize that you had to swallow barium... yukkkk ... i suppose it does make sense though. they need to know how things are placed after surgery. Have you got all your dietary requirements?? or did you have to shop for them afterwoods?? Congrats... the worst of it is over. judych

...Did you find the book you mentioned here?? is it this title?? i would like to try and buy it . im new here, i live in southern TAsmania, im due for my first visit with my specialist 7th march. i have a referral and i would say that im definately having surgery. i have bad arthritis in both knees..(replacements in both), heaps of surgeries since i was a teen, arthritic feet and hips are now getting bad. also hypertensive. so, i think i qualify. my gp thinks so. im reading these posts and they are so supportive so thanks everyone for sharing. its important for me, im in an isolated area with no support groups. it means a lot to be able to share, and online is as good as any place i find. so much information here.. so once again, thanks to you all. i hope to make some friends here who will help me in answering questions. im keeping a book and writing down those things ive learned from reading. ive been on the american forum but i know that its a bit different there. most patients there go on a diet before hand. it sounds like high Protein low carb and one day of just fluids. something to do with the liver?? is that right?/ my question is.. is there a diet involved here in Australia pre op??. Do drs here differ very much in their approach to pre op ?? ive just started making inquiries about the expense involved with my surgery... fortunately for me i have private insurance so hospital is covered. it seems that my Specialist is no gap so thats encouraging. Also.. talking about post op diet... what is the best gadget to buy for juicing and smoothies?? i dont have one at the moment and need to buy one. Living in the country i dont have access to window shop. Lastly.. does anyone here know about the benefits of Barley Green in post op diets?? Every bit of information is gratefully received.

...**im so glad that its all over and went well. you did have a mammoth task to travel that far. Actually, at one point i was thinking of travelling all the way there as well if i couldnt get a referral here. im in southern australia. i think the main issue with me was the long distance that i would have had to travel both there and home again. mind you, i dont see my specialist until the 7th, but im positive that he will operate. anyway, i was thinking of you last night our time. its great to hear that you got through it o.k. How did your hubbie go with his broken ankle and crutches?? did you cope o.k. with your luggage?? judych

im so sorry thats happened to you. i have a good idea just how the pressure has been mounting leading up to the surgery, and to have it cancelled like that would be a real blow. i hope that your infection clears up real soon, you want to be in good physical condition to have your surgery. The day will be here before you can turn around. best wishes to you. judych

god luck with it all. Look forward to reading your posts. judych

Pre Op Diet/new To The Group And My Lap Band Surgery Date Is Feb 24 2012
judych replied to sophiamckenna's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Sophie and everyone. ive just joined the forum and really pleased to see that there is one where everyone can share. Im inbetween my referring dr and specialist. i have an appointment for march 7th to see my specialist. im currently online a lot reading up on material, watching youtube videos send in by others who have had the surgery and im getting a really good idea of what its all about. my issues arent completely about weight, although im overweight by about 6 stone. my main issues are multiple surgeries for joint problems and replacements due to arthritis. now its my feet and my knees have both had replacements. my hips are locking at times as well so losing weight is the only way to go it seems. Ive also got high blood pressure. im a bit scared.I can see that its definately a life changing surgery. ive always loved my food, like everyone here i guess, andi can see just how seriously i have to take this surgery for it to work with me. im just reading that one has to go on a liquid diet beforehand. can someone please explain a little more about that please?? how long for?? and how soon before surgery?? im so pleased i found this forum. judych
