  1. yes, its just great... better than i could have expected it to be. thanks to everyone. im hoping later on that i can be of help as well.meantime im learning heaps, as i said.
  2. this is really interesting. im not banded yet, will know on wednesday, but meantime im learning heaps,. i have to say im really glad that im no sugar craver.. just dont bother about sweet things at all. i know thats a plus. what i am is a savoury and chilli junkie. lol. now.. thats been worrying me.. that i would have to give up savoury and chilli. its good to read that you are eating meals with chilli successfully. did you say you have a sit to look at?/ is it here?/ i wouldnt mind having a look. Yesterday with my new blender i blended up a whole squash, skin, seeds and all.. the same with zucchini.i then put a tin of tomatoes in blender.. a teaspoon of chicken stock.... i browned some onions rings in a pan.. added some garlic.. and some chilli. then i put everything into a pot and cooked for about ten minutes. when i had a bowl of 'soup' come chowder, i put a small amount of light sour cream on top. it was sooo good. i would be really disappointed to think that i cant eat meals like that after banding.. the chilli flavour with the garlic was wonderful. it was very filling as well.
  3. this is interesting.. so thats where the ball of mucus comes from??
  4. lol... i reckon.. it would make my week.. congrats on getting this far.. its exciting.
  5. i was reading up on alcohol and the lap band or the sleeve. it sounds like it does affect us a lot more.. it moves through the small stomach so much quicker, and so there is more alcohol that moves through the gut. it seems that its not healthy. i like a drink myself... i dont know what to think about it. especially knowing that if we eat while we have a drink then the alcohol is absorbed in the stomach so its impact is lessened somewhat. because we cant drink for half hour beforehand and an hour after eating, food isnt going to help with the impact of the alcohol. im no expert... what do the others here think about it??

    March Bandsters!

you have done really well so far, even without the band. way to go. when do you finish up work to go?? are you working right up until thursday? how long is the trip for you??
  8. isnt it wonderful that baby food can be such a help when it comes to food post op. it saves so much work preparing and there are so many different flavours now. i must remember to start looking out for them when shopping so ive got a supply when i need it. so it does make a huge difference how many times we chew each mouthful. for months now i thought i had gastritis... but im thinking now that it was just eating way too fast. i didnt have much relief from it either. Tonight proves to me that chewing more certainly is solving my problems. Thanks for sharing about the baby foods.. im in australia, im not sure what veges etc are available here. hopefully the same. ONe thing... this forum is certainly making me think. about a lot of things. thanks everyone for your input.
  9. youre doing really well... it must be very encouraging to be able to try out the foods you like an that they agree with you. way to go. im not done yet, but already im very aware that i need to chew my food at least 30 times... and tonight i did, on average 50 times. i had a small plate full but at the end of my meal i had no indigestion. that proves to me that im not chewing my food enough. how many times to you find you have to chew each mouthful?/ were you full after you had finished or before you finished the bowl?
  10. ...so youve had surgery in Jan?? thats over six weeks ago now. are you cleaning the area out with hydrogen peroxide?? using a clean cotton bud with peroxide may help you... but i would have thought that long post op it would have healed nicely.. perhaps you need to get it checked out?? it certainly shouldnt have a bad odor about it, thats for sure.

it is one lump or many little lumps?? often wounds develop a hard area when they are healing. ive had it with various surgeries myself. if it really does worry you or you develop anything else, get in touch with your dr. im sure its a natural part of healing .. my hard raised areas flattened out and became softer and more normal tissue after a period of time.. it may take some months though.

    Lap Band Slips

i wonder why he didnt sew it more securely when he first put the band in?? i would like to know why.. ive read where some drs actually sew a portion of the stomach back over the band to keep it in place. this is very interesting reading. ive been doing a lot of study on both the band and the sleeve. we live in a country area where we have to travel nearly two hours just one way, and the road isnt good. if i had to travel a lot for fills, checkups, etc.. then thats going to cause both hubbie and i a lot of stress. Especially in winter when the roads are worse. i think im going to approach him about a sleeve. i know that my BMI is 30.. but i have a chronic disorder with joints... both knees replaced. now my feet etc are bad... so it seems that surgery will be done on those grounds. its going to be interesting to see what he has to say. im not sure of the prices though, and how all that works. one thing, our insurance company doesnt have the say as to what i should have done. thats one good thing. the decision is the drs. if i have coverage for it, and i do, then the company pays out. i will tell you all how i get on after wednesdays appointment. its for 11.30 and we will have a long exhausting day away.

    March Bandsters!

i think you are very brave to go on your own.. .you deserve all the best. congratulations for breaking through all the negative barriers and going ahead with it. it is an emotional roller coaster and all of us to a greater or lesser degree have had to struggle with it, Others however who arent having surgery or who wont have it have no idea of the roller coast effect that obesity causes, and how it does impact our lives. and, im talking about all age groups here, not just adults in the prime, but 60's and older as well. its a big issue. i want the emotional baggage to be gone as well as the weight after i have my surgery. that will take twenty years off my life, i can tell you. Your co worker has no idea, an whats more i dont think she deserves to be a confidant . people who are way too judgemental really make me mad. Im not saying that my kids would be judgmental but im not telling anyone at all apart from my hubbie. im not leaving myself open to any criticism at all. i dont need negaties just positives.; there is destructive power in negative words. if one cant get positives from friends and relatives then dont tell them. they dont need to know. we have this forum for positive feedback and support
  14. i wonder if it has anything to do with your levels of testosterone?? someone said that the level drops as weight comes off?? im not sure if thats got any relevance to your post but obviously something does go on... i would be visiting my dr for a checkup and maybe some blood tests

    Lap Band Slips

im so sorry this has happened to you. actually ive been doing a lot of reading and comparing the sleeve to the band. i would like to know what percentage of patients have slippage of their band. i hope you dont have to worry about the expense of another op. let us know how you go.
  17. actually i did wonder about going on vacations and cruises, and how i would get on. we went on a cruise towards the end of last year. it was our first and a real eye opener on how much food is eaten while on the boats. way too much but its hard to resist. its all apart of the cruise experience.. at least with the band there is the option to have it empty while away. that option isnt available with the other surgeries .

    February Bandsters?

i think i will be asking my dr for some sleeping tabs. i dont sleep well at the best of times, i dont want to be having sleepless nights after surgery.

    February Bandsters?

i agree that a recliner is a good way to go.. we dont have one.. im going to set myself up in my single bed with lots of pillows, hopefully that will work for me.
  24. what a marvellous idea to have this section. im not banded yet, wont be for a few weeks, but this is giving me so many ideas on how to manage diet post op. i was really worrying a lot about managing it all, to tell the truth. Thanks to the person who started this thread up, and thanks to all those who have and are going to contribute to it. im making copious notes here. lol. way to go.
