and now i have a date... and im the 21st march as well.... woohooo...lol.
-
hi everyone .. well... i had my appointment with my specialist this morning about 11.30am. i was nervous. i shouldnt have been though, he was very nice, very quiet, gentle and open to lots of questions from me. my hubbie pushed his way in behind me, lol, a bit of a surprise, normally he would much rather sit and read the paper in the waiting room. Anyway, im having my lapband surgery done on the 21st march.. get this though.. i dont have to go on any fast or liquid diet at all leading up to the surgery. nothing at all. im amazed. i asked him why and he said... ''why do it when it really doesnt make things any different for me or you''.. so, that left me wondering . Ive already ordered some barley green ,which is highly nutritious, has all the Vitamins and minerals, etc, so i will start on that as soon as i get it. I have to go on a liquid diet for at least two weeks afterwoods, just as same as you do, progress very slowly after the surgery. im in overnight as well. i talked with the specialist about the coroners case that was in the court here right now and he told me everything that went on. i felt really bad that the press wasnt printing the truth of it all. anyway, we had a good talk about it all. He told me that he has to go into court tomorrow Apparentley the patient wasnt well, was admitted to the hospital. it was a friday. The specialist has his clinic underneath the main hospital area. She spent a night in the hospital, not well, but was a very difficult patient to handle as she wanted to be discharged.. without the drs consent. she had been banded ten days. AS well as , her mother was on the phone to the specialist in his ear... it was most unpleasant i believe. i didnt ask why things got so bad, but the patient and her family were pushing for her to leave. A call was made to the specialist by the ward sister... and the specialist, who had a patient with him at the time, released the patient by phone without seeing her just prior to leaving. This needed to come out in the coronial sitting in court this past week but for some reason it hasnt been talked about. Wilkie, the specialist, said that he was going on the stand tomorrow. i said, ''surely, the truth will be given a chance to be spoken..''' ya think?... i hope it is... When it was time for me to go in i was very relaxed. his waiting room was full...two ladies behind reception. i soon found out that one of the receptionists is from our area, and has a shack not far from where we live. From then on it was like '' old homes week'' lol. which was good. As she weighed me, she told me that she had a band put in six years ago, and she looks really good. we talked a bit about it. I had plenty of questions for Wilkie, asked him about the gastric sleeve and he talked for some time about that. convinced me that it wasnt the way to go. not for me anyway. He told me lots of things, abut where the port will go ,ect ect... we covered many issues . i was in there over an hour. So, there you have it. The appointment i was dreading so much is over and i have a date now for surgery. i dont have any fill at the time the band is inserted. there will be four fills in twelve months all going well. we talked about foods etc. i have to talk with a dietician... i will ring her. No other appointments at all, only to see the anaesthesiasts.. and thats it. Im going to modify my eating starting from this coming weekend. that will give me two weeks or careful eating. cutting down on carbs and more Protein. using the barley green. I dont have to be admitted until 11.30am on the 21st so thats good. i stay overnight and go home the next day. now ive written this book.. lol.. sorry to be so long winded, but i was really a mess and was having second thoughts about it all. There is no doubt that Wilkie is a very clever surgeon... but all surgery is a risk, as he said today regarding the lady who died. o..k... im outta here. lol... congrats to all you dear people who have been banded the last 24 hours... ive been thinking of you all... and im still reading up on everyone. i love the interaction on here. g'night from australia.. xxx

judych replied to new beginnings03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ive been wondering this as well.. but in t he meantime ive bought some barley green. a powder mixed with water.. not too bad to drink. i dont know if i can use this after lapping though. i suppose it depends on the amount one can drink at a time. i know that its completely organic. -

yes, i remember reading about the length of time but ive forgotten it now. i reckon you are right . my BMI will have everything to do with it. i rang the insurance company this afternoon and they couldnt tell me anything until i see the dr. i need the item number for a start. its a nuicance because i go in there not having any details like this at all. i would much prefer to be better informed about sleeve. once i get in there im still nervous and i dont always pick up on everything thats said. this is the main issue with me. Anyway, i have to start writing some things down this evening.

i certainly will be... and thanks. i will let you all know tomorrow night our time.

aww.. thanks.. im so churned up right now. yes, i think you are right. This man is an achiever. I reckon he has well and truly dealt with that lapse, whatever it was. He wouldnt like to have any more disasters like this one im sure.

What Does Being "stuck" Feel Like?
judych replied to JennyBee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thanks.. its nice to know that you are eating pretty much what i would still like to have on my plate as well. i dont eat much read meat... i do like stews in the crock pot , or slow cooker. especially with winter coming on here. i love soups so thats no bother. do you have any liquid either just before, with or just after your meals? -
...thats o.k. i appreciate your input. it is scary and it is a huge responsibility... and i guess like everyone im wanting to and not wanting to.. but my history speaks for itself. i have no choice really. im thinking at this stage probably sleeve.. but its not for me to say. i have to see what the dr says about it tomorrow. im hoping that the terrible business with the young lady dying last year has set him back on his heels and he has rectified whatever it was . he is a very good surgeon.

Im really nervous about seeing the specialist tomorrow, and im still undecided on what procedure to push with him. there is so much to each procedure, to have the lapband or to have the sleeve. ive been through heaps of literature.. each has its advantages and disadvantages. reading the posts here has helped me a lot as well, i havent spoken to anyone who has had a sleeve done. i would love all of you to think positively for me for tomorrow... please?? reading and hearing about the lass who died through lapbanding has been like a punch in the stomach today. i need some positive thoughts and encouraging words come my way.... im all churned up inside at the moment.

great idea.

ive read the odd quote where crackers can be eaten. i guess the only way you will know how well you tolerate it is to try it for yourself. i will be trying various things out for myself when im done. we are all different.

this is really interesting. i love spicy foods and have often used cayenne pepper... even putting the powder into clear gelatin capsules in the wintertime. I need to ask you... when you had your lapbanding done, did you have a hiatal hernia? or any problem with reflux?? i dont want to have to give up my spicy food... i dont have a sweet tooth but love my spices. now are you finding the cayenne?? does it bother you?
